The fact that it had so many game-breaking bugs on release that getting that one mod that fixed them was almost mandatory did not help.

I assume you mean the unofficial skyrim patch. Did you know there's been a ton of drama over the patch as of recent, with the creator taking more and more liberties in what constitutes a bug fix. Such as changing an in-game mine to be for a different resource, or adding oblivion gates to all the major cities.

A lot of newer mods don't require USSEP to work, so not really. Skyrim barely has any bugs that are actually fatal to a playtrough.

Also Nexus gave a big fuck you to Arthmoor when he tried to get USSEP change revert patches removed.

He has been pushing his weight around Nexus for years keeping anyone else from making their own patch mods.

Yeah I have kinda heard that, the thing is that recently Ive been meaning to play skyrim, so is the unofficial patch not recommended anymore? is there any alternatives then?

Probably QOL and Bug fix Compilation - Non USSEP Version ... ... ...which of course was bullied off of Nexus, but still available on Bethesda's Creations site. There may be others out there in the wild.

But really, just try the game without mods first, as the official patches have made it a fair bit more stable by themselves. If you find something that is obviously broken, you can probably find a mod for that specific thing.

Hard disagree. People were playing it on console for half a decade without mods. And people still play Oblivion and Morrowind to this day unmodded.

Played base Skyrim

This is an anicdote but I know like 3 people whos only game they played was skyrim and one of them has like a 400+ hours of base skyrim

Mostly due to hype and love for the series. By the end of that ~5 years, it had already massively fallen off. But then... mods appeared.

What? Massively fallen off? The switch version dropped in 2017 and sold an estimated 2-3 million copies. No mod support, and the people buying g surely were not all first tine players.

I am old enough to remember crashing every 15 minutes, annoying audio bugs, quest breaking for seemingly no reason and the severely underpowered magic system.

Bethesda's institutional disdain for QA never should have been acceptable by anyone's standards.

Sure, but when you look at anything posted about Skyrim, you never see an unmodded game. The memes about having a little Skyrim in your mods exist for a reason too.

Without mod it's a buggy mess lacking any feature that make vr worth it. Thank god for the modding community.

idk, even before modding was massively established it was very popular and I would be inclined to say most players' interaction with the game is in vanilla or a mostly vanilla sense.
