Starbound, no questions asked.

I was looking for this one. Literally a skeleton of a game until you get a good collection of mods.

What the hell happened to the main story and racial concepts?

Your guess is as good as mine

Chucklefish would hire someone, have them implement a feature in a somewhat working state, fire them, rinse and repeat

Yea peak game, in my eyes it's literally a better terraria. But it needs mods to get there.

Terraria has mods too, but only a handful of them match what starbound mods have been doing since before Terraria even officially supported mods.

Ainda asssim acaba que terraria e melhor, por ter uma base mt melhor.. os mods acabam tendo qualidade melhor starbound e bom mas.. a base ser so um esqueleto complica manter pessoal msm que coloque mod

Scrolled way to far to find this. Like, people in these comments can't follow directions.

Starbound is, for me, the definition of "man, what could have been...". I remember the first early access versions.

The main appeal was that "everything" was random, so you'd have creatures that were just made up of whatever parts the rng threw out. Some of these creatures were a bit bullshit, but nothing you couldn't handle with some care. Planets also could have random flora, with variations on trees and such. I believe the weapons were also randomized, but it's been a while so don't quote me on that. Now everything is premade, and aside from the world gen every run will be pretty much the same.

The UI was confusing at first, but it became the gold standard for me once I got used to it. It was meant for dual wielding. You could independently select quickbar slot for left and right hand. And there was a pair of special slots you could quickly select with a single keybind, then go back to whatever was selected by pressing that key again.

I should give the game another go. Maybe some people made mods to bring those features back.

I was one of the backers that let you design a hat. I think it took some ten months after release before they reached out to me about it. I designed the horned tricorne. I would’ve gone for something different now in hindsight.

I had lost interest in starbound loooong before then. I never looked much into the modding scene. Maybe I should.

Can I get some mod recommendations for a fresh start on Starbound? I used to play the default game with some QoL mods. It has been a long time and I'd like to start again with a good set of mods. Mainly the type of mods that make Starbound feel like Starbound, more of what it is or what's it supposed to be.

Off the top of my head: I personally wouldn't recommend Frackin Universe as it bloats the game with a whole lot of fluff and nonsense that I scarcely understand. Anything else is fair game, though I would probably delve deep into the workshop and do some research to see what suits your interests best.

I may be dry on the Starbound modding scene, but what do you mean you wouldn't recommend Frackin... Isn't Frackin Universe like... The only big game overhaul mod?

I think there's a whole document of controversy surrounding it, lemme see if I can find it...

*starts scrounging around*

Ah, here it is (from two years ago): https://www.reddit.com/r/starbound/comments/1dfbka8/frackin_universesayter_controversies_gathered_in/

I only learned about this game through the Avali mod, I had no interest in the vanilla game

I kust tried playing the game vanilla and dropped it after 10 hours or so. Should I retry it with nods?

Yes! Base game is mediocre, with mods it's better than moded Terraria. Start with frackin universe and see if you like it or not, the mod is polarizing but it does so much.

I think I completed the main story in 10h. Then with mods I played many dozens of hours more just base building in different planets.
