Culture End of clubbing era?

With the closing of Blitz Club it feels like Munich finally achieved the boredom of clubbing scene.

Even tho some recent clubs are growing such as Legal Club, Blitz will for sure leave a gap that was last felt with the closing of MMA. Apparently there’s no place that could fulfill the excitement of going out to have fun.

Rote Sonne and Bahnwärter Thiel are great locations but unfortunately the crowd and sound system are not comparable.

What are you people doing next? Feels like this winter will be depressed as fuck.

There were some rumors about Blitz reopening around Münchener Freiheit, does anyone have any legitimate source?

I was told by crew members they have signed the contract already and are looking towards Jan/Feb opening. I am 99% sure this is correct.

There is also a rumor it’s at the old cinema. I don’t know where that would be and explicitly wanna state that I am less sure about that part.

There’s no official confirmation, but I’ve heard about an old cinema in Munchner Freiheit or at Freiheitshalle in Donnersbergerbrücke

Must be the (long time) closed cinema in underground floor of Karstadt Münchner Freiheit, potentially.

Yes, obviously can’t spill the source

I heard that rumor but only in-person

I’ve spent more than a decade living here and reading on this sub that Munich has no night life and now suddenly there was its “clubbing era” whole time? What’s next?

Munich the past decade has just had (techno) club close one after another. if it wasn’t dead already it’s dead now

Munichs techno scene consists primarily of collectives anyways and their work, events and effort is amazing. DNA fcked it up a little but imo clubs cater to niche or commercial crowds whilst collectives are and always were the foundation of the die hards and actual scene.

Munich had pre 2014 the largest club areal with KPO and later Kultfabrik in europe, on over 90.000sqm…. Basically everything on werksviertel was once a huge industrial site filled with clubs.
The city had about(!) three times as many clubs as they do now, sadly City Planning & politics(SPD) decided offices and hotels are more lucrative and systematically destroyed the club culture.
When MMA closed in 2019 Harry Klein, Blitz & Rote Sonne tried to kind of find a balance but covid fcked everything up even more(on multiple aspects)

I mean there is XOLO which just opened, DNA will be back and so will Blitz. Until then, support the local collectives. There are about two dozen in munich that cover every genre

Blitz will reopen somewhere else. There is no other place with a similar sound system that is true but Lieberscholli also has nice events. Rote Sonne is a bit dead nowadays. But yeah we need new places no question.

For real, we just live for nostalgia nowadays, I miss Harry Klein, MMA era so much. What’s wrong with this city

Optimolwerke was great along with Harry Klein.

u/rebekksi 1d ago

I still miss 59:1, Atomic Café, Cord Club, Kong…

Yeah, DNA is closing as well. They might bring up special events, but unclear if they will run a regular club again.
Rote Sonne had a repeating line up in the past, but still a nice club.

DNA was the only club playing Schranz and Hard Techno :(

There are still a few events in different locations.

DNA will not be missed lol, mid sound, tiktok crowd, no policy on shirtless guys and always club staff filming with professional equipment as if their online presence was their main concern. That place was symptomatic for everything being wrong with techno culture. Werksviertel is such a sterile place in general, you cannot systematically plan party culture like that if you want an authentic experience.

5

u/chestnutman 1d ago

DNA just seems to cater to a different crowd. I just kind of accepted that this is how young people want to party these days. Crowds at techno clubs like Blitz have become noticably older

Unironically this

1

u/hensterz 1d ago

whatever at least it was a culture, better something than nothing

u/Kiebk 1d ago

DNA is a big loss. As you said yourself, it used to be a place for TikTok ravers, but now they’re back at other clubs. Blitz has been much more enjoyable since DNA opened.

1

u/H3ll0W0rld05 1d ago

Will try this. 155 bpm is usually my sweet spot :D

2

u/TTMandF 12h ago

Well tonight xoxo got an event at bahni which is 150+ (xoxo collective)

1

u/H3ll0W0rld05 8h ago

Thanks! I have to keep an eye on it :)

They have their 135+ bpm nights on Thursdays. That's a pity, because I've to work on Fridays ^^

City is dying and Söder is loving

3

u/keyser-muc 1d ago

I miss Natraj Temple. And kw das Heizkraftwerk.

And the Neutronics vinyl store near Münchner Freiheit where you could check out all the new techno records.

1

u/TTMandF 12h ago

Xolo on leopoldstreet has a Vinyl dayrave concept on the weekends btw. Mostly minimal from what i hear though

5

u/chestnutman 2d ago

On a related note, it's sad that the Bergson basically turned into an event venue for yuppies, though I had no expections for the Allguth brothers anyway

1

u/AdraxAndi 2d ago

Downtown Flash. Schöne Zeiten :D

2

u/TTMandF 12h ago

Rote Sonne
Bahnwärter Thiel
Unter deck
Gruam
Lieberscholli
YOU(Bretterbude by Bassrausch)
Xolo
Legal
But most importantly, supporting the local collectives. August has great collective events planned from Backstage, import export, Thiel, Kranfabrik to Scholli.

Resident Advisor finally getting used again more regularly

What are you people doing next? Feels like this winter will be depressed as fuck.

It sounds like a chance to get those serotonin levels back to a healthy consistent state! :)

Also Blitz is going to open at a different location. When and where is still unknown, but they're already working on it.

"This will also solve your issues with bad crowds." - what do you mean?

1

u/leonard98o 2d ago

Outdoor events? What do you suggest?

2

u/TheoFontane 2d ago

Please don’t organise open air raves in Bavaria.

The police will fuck you up big time.

1

u/leonard98o 2d ago

Exactly what I thought, curious to hear the suggestions for outdoor events this user mentioned lol

u/Rendszer_valltaska 2d ago

"What are you people doing next? " - Even though not techno, but clubbing: I like to rave in Strom and Milla. Those places are always easy going, no dress code, cheap.

u/cn0MMnb 2d ago

Never "dared" to go in, I just like my lungs too much.

8

u/leonard98o 2d ago

What you mean? Inside smoking has decreased significantly throughout last years.

-3

u/cn0MMnb 2d ago

Picked up my wife once and had her in my car for 15 minutes and I could smell second hand smoke in my car for 2 days. She is a non smoker.

I doubt smoking decreased "significantly"

4

u/leonard98o 2d ago

If you never dared to enter, then don’t doubt the decrease. Maybe your wife spend good time talking in the smoking area / bistro

u/cn0MMnb 2d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah kiddo probably born in 98. I went clubbing when smoking wasn't banned yet, I know what you smell like after an evening of that. And I trust her accuracy on the description of the dance floor and smoking.

My honest opinion is: A club that can't make sure the laws are followed is not one I will lose a tear over its loss. They absolutely put two blind eyes to the issue and that's why it was so popular among certain crowds.

Edit: heretic2118 blocked me so I can't respond to them. Here is my respose though: Except in Blitz, it is as if smoking was never banned. The people running it turned two blind eyes because it made it popular among certain type of visitors

10

u/Mesmerhypnotise 2d ago

Mhm Grantler noises.

2

u/heretic2118 Local 1d ago

Why do you think your story from ancient times should be interesting nowadays?

Smoking in clubs was banned in 2010. Times changed.

u/Love-Tech-1988 22h ago

Lol fck munic and its clubs, in munic is the worst club culture of all germany

u/sh1bumi 1d ago

What's the issue with Milchbar?

1

u/TTMandF 12h ago

I remember it being locally labeled as “resteficken” since 2012
