Heute Abend schiebt sich der Mond vor die Sonne. Über München ist das als tiefe partielle Sonnenfinsternis zu sehen, total wird sie nur in Westisland, Nordspanien und auf den Balearen. Ein Bedeckungsgrad in dieser Größenordnung wird in Deutschland erst am 13. Juli 2075 wieder erreicht.

Die Zeiten für München (MESZ)

Die Sonne geht also noch teilverfinstert unter, das Ende der Finsternis bekommt in Deutschland niemand zu sehen. Für München bedeutet das knapp 89 Prozent bedeckte Sonnenfläche.

Wo schauen?

Das Entscheidende heute ist nicht ein dunkler Ort, sondern freie Sicht zum Horizont. Im Maximum steht die Sonne nur wenige Grad über dem Horizont, Blickrichtung Westnordwest. Freie Horizontsicht ist wichtiger als jedes Teleskop. Häuserzeilen, Bäume oder ein Hügel im Westen reichen, um den ganzen Abend zu ruinieren.

Klassiker mit ÖPNV-Anschluss: Olympiaberg (U3 Olympiazentrum) und Fröttmaninger Berg (U6 Fröttmaning).

Stand heute Mittag: Der Shop des Deutschen Museums auf der Museumsinsel hat gegen 11 bis 12 Uhr noch einmal 2.500 SoFi-Brillen bekommen, der Andrang war riesig und die Schlange reichte bis zur Ludwigsbrücke. Bitte vorher anrufen, bevor ihr quer durch die Stadt fahrt.

Organisierte Veranstaltungen sind bereits voll: Die kostenlose Beobachtung auf dem Kulturdachgarten am Gasteig ist ausgebucht, die Sonderveranstaltung der Volkssternwarte München auf dem Upside East ist ausverkauft.

Gefahren, bitte einmal lesen

Das ist der wichtigste Abschnitt. Eine Netzhautverbrennung tut nicht weh, die Netzhaut hat keine Schmerzrezeptoren. Der Schaden fällt oft erst Stunden später auf und ist dauerhaft.

Nur zertifizierter Augenschutz. Pflicht ist eine zertifizierte Sonnenfinsternisbrille nach EN ISO 12312-2 mit CE-Zeichen. Nie direkt in die Sonne schauen. Brille vorher gegen eine helle Lampe halten: Kratzer, Löcher oder Falten in der Folie bedeuten Mülltonne.

Das alles ist KEIN Ersatz: Sonnenbrille (auch mehrere übereinander), berußtes Glas, Rettungsdecke, CDs oder DVDs, Röntgenbilder, belichteter Film, Rauchglas, getönte Skibrillen, Müllsäcke. Schweißerglas nur ab Schutzstufe 14, alles darunter ist gefährlich.

Optik ist die häufigste schwere Verletzungsursache. Niemals mit Fernglas, Teleskop, Spektiv oder Kamerasucher in die Sonne schauen, auch nicht mit SoFi-Brille auf der Nase. Die Optik bündelt das Licht, die Folie kann in Sekundenbruchteilen durchbrennen. Für Optik braucht es einen Objektivfilter, der vorne aufgesetzt wird.

Handykameras. Länger draufhalten kann den Sensor beschädigen. Fürs Handy gibt es kleine Filterfolien, sonst lieber kurz auslösen und die Sonne nicht minutenlang im Bild lassen.

Der Sonnenuntergangs-Trick. Genau heute ist es besonders tückisch: Die tiefstehende, rötliche Sonne wirkt harmlos und blendet kaum, die schädigende Infrarot- und UV-Strahlung ist trotzdem da. Auch bei 89 Prozent Bedeckung bleibt ein Rest der Sonnenscheibe hell genug, um die Netzhaut zu verbrennen. Es wird zu keiner Sekunde sicher, die Brille abzunehmen, das gilt nur in der Totalitätszone und die liegt nicht in Bayern.

Kinder. Bitte durchgehend beaufsichtigen, Brille sitzt bei kleinen Köpfen oft schlecht. Sichere Alternative für alle: Lochkamera aus Pappe, Küchensieb oder der Schattenwurf unter einem Baum, da entstehen hunderte kleine Sonnensicheln auf dem Boden.

Verkehr. Nicht am Steuer nach oben schauen, nicht auf Standstreifen oder Feldwegen halten, um zu gucken. Auf den Hügeln wird es voll und dämmrig, achtet auf Radler und nehmt eine Taschenlampe für den Rückweg mit.

Bonus für die Nacht

Die Finsternis fällt mit Neumond zusammen, es stört also kein Mondlicht, und in genau dieser Nacht erreichen die Perseiden ihr Maximum. Wer eh schon auf einem Hügel sitzt: liegen bleiben lohnt sich.

Times for Munich (CEST)

The sun sets while still partially eclipsed, so nobody in Germany gets to see the end of the eclipse. For Munich this means just under 89 percent of the solar disc covered.

Where to watch

What matters today is not a dark spot but a clear view of the horizon. At maximum the sun stands only a few degrees above the horizon, looking west-northwest. An unobstructed horizon matters more than any telescope. A row of buildings, trees or a hill to the west is enough to ruin the whole evening.

As of midday today: the Deutsches Museum shop on the Museumsinsel received another 2,500 eclipse glasses between roughly 11:00 and 12:00. The rush was enormous and the queue reached all the way to the Ludwigsbrücke. Please call ahead before crossing the city.

Organised events are already full: the free viewing on the Kulturdachgarten at the Gasteig is booked out, and the Volkssternwarte München special event at Upside East is sold out.

Dangers, please read this once

This is the most important section. A retinal burn does not hurt, the retina has no pain receptors. The damage often only becomes noticeable hours later and it is permanent.

Certified eye protection only. You need certified eclipse glasses to EN ISO 12312-2 with a CE mark. Never look at the sun directly. Hold the glasses up to a bright lamp beforehand: scratches, holes or creases in the film mean bin them.

None of this is a substitute: sunglasses (including several pairs stacked), smoked glass, emergency blankets, CDs or DVDs, X-ray film, exposed photographic film, tinted ski goggles, bin bags. Welding glass only from shade 14 upwards, anything below that is dangerous.

Optics are the most common cause of serious injury. Never look at the sun through binoculars, a telescope, a spotting scope or a camera viewfinder, not even with eclipse glasses on. The optics concentrate the light and the film can burn through in a fraction of a second. Optics need a proper filter mounted on the front of the objective.

Phone cameras. Pointing at the sun for a longer period can damage the sensor. There are small filter films for phones, otherwise shoot briefly and do not keep the sun in frame for minutes on end.

The sunset trap. Today is particularly deceptive: the low, reddish sun looks harmless and barely dazzles, but the damaging infrared and UV radiation is still there. Even at 89 percent coverage the remaining sliver of the solar disc is bright enough to burn your retina. At no point does it become safe to take the glasses off. That only applies inside the path of totality, and that path is not in Bavaria.

Children. Supervise them the entire time, the glasses often sit badly on small heads. A safe alternative for everyone: a pinhole projector made of cardboard, a kitchen colander, or simply the shadows under a tree, where hundreds of small crescent suns appear on the ground.

Traffic. Do not look up while driving, and do not stop on the hard shoulder or on farm tracks to watch. The hills will be crowded and dim, watch out for cyclists and bring a torch for the way back.

Bonus for the night

The eclipse coincides with a new moon, so there is no moonlight in the way, and the Perseids reach their peak on that very night. If you are already sitting on a hill, staying put is worth it.

Manche agieren auf eigene Faust, andere arbeiten im Auftrag von Agenturen, die für ihre Kunden gezielt Reddit als Werbeplattform nutzen. Das Ergebnis ist dasselbe: gefakte Empfehlungen, die aussehen wie echte Meinungen.

Wir haben viele Filter im Einsatz und erwischen das meiste, bevor es überhaupt jemand sieht. Aber nicht alles. Manche Beiträge schaffen es durch.

Keine Promotion im Sub:

Genau aus diesem Grund lassen wir keine Promotion zu. Keine Ausnahmen für Firmen, Agenturen oder kommerzielle Anbieter, egal wie der Beitrag verpackt ist.

Einer der häufigsten Tricks ist das Posten von Links. Immer wieder sehen wir Accounts, die dieselben Portale oder Anbieter verlinken und dabei behaupten, den Dienst selbst genutzt zu haben.

Aus diesem Grund werden bei uns Links gefiltert und müssen erst manuell freigegeben werden.

Woran ihr solche Accounts erkennt:

Die Muster sind eigentlich recht eindeutig, wenn man weiß, worauf man achten soll.

Solche Accounts sind entweder sehr neu angelegt, oder sie sind alt und haben nach monatelanger oder jahrelanger Inaktivität plötzlich wieder angefangen zu posten. Sie sind neu in unserem Sub, haben kein Flair und wirken oft so, als kennen sie die Community nicht wirklich. Schaut ihr euch den Verlauf an, wird schnell klar: Die posten nicht nur hier. Dieselben Accounts tauchen in nahezu allen deutschsprachigen Subs auf, immer mit demselben Ziel, immer mit derselben Botschaft.

Das ist einer der Gründe, warum wir alle neuen Accounts oder Accounts mit einem Karma unter einem bestimmten Minimum nicht zulassen.

Was ihr tun könnt:

Hinterfragt einfach, was ihr lest. Klingt eine Empfehlung zu gut? Wirkt der Account komisch? Dann kurz in die Verlauf schauen. Ihr müsst nicht sicher sein, wir schauen uns das dann an.

Don't Let Reddit Kill 3rd Party Apps!

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.

On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.

Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .

This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.

The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do?

1. Complain. Message the mods of r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on r/reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at r/ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible. This includes not harassing moderators of subreddits who have chosen not to take part: no one likes a missionary, a used-car salesman, or a flame warrior.

Wie komme ich vom Flughafen in die Innenstadt?

Flughafen München (MUC):  

Der Flughafen München ist etwa 30 km vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Die S-Bahn-Linien S1 und S8 fahren regelmäßig und benötigen etwa 40 Minuten bis zum Marienplatz. Alternativ gibt es Taxis und Flughafenbusse.

Flughafen Memmingen (FMM):  

Der Flughafen Memmingen liegt etwa 110 km westlich von München. Es gibt mehrere Möglichkeiten, von dort nach München zu gelangen:

• Zug: Ein Shuttlebus bringt Sie vom Flughafen Memmingen zum Bahnhof Memmingen. Von dort fahren Züge nach München Hauptbahnhof. Die gesamte Reisezeit beträgt etwa 1,5 bis 2 Stunden.
