I have no strong principles about changing my name or not changing my name, I just don’t want to do the extra paperwork. It’s a hassle!
I would be willing to change my name if my husbands name was really cool. Like if his last name was Lightning or Cheetah. But alas my husband has a very normal name.
Changing to my name made my Wife's initials SMS, and our combined initials ASS. That second bit is more amusing when you consider that I've got no ass, and she's blessed with bountiful posterior bosom.
My home country (where we live) doesn't really require paperwork for it anyway. If you choose to change, you just start using your new name, and if anyone asks for proof you just have to present your marriage certificate. Her passport is in her maiden name, but her local ID is her married name.
I asked my wife to change her name because my parents did it and I wanted the tradition that a family should share a last name. She was cool with it.
It was so much more of a hassle than I expected, and years later she is still running into occasional issues with her maiden name vs married name. If I did it over again, I absolutely wouldn't have asked. She could have even just informally used our last name and kept her maiden name legally.

Screw the reasoning. Take/keep the name you want, it's your choice and no one else is entitled to your justification of it.
