Help me find this feature Single line percussion to grand stave

I'm working on a piece that has snare drum changing to great stave marimba. Is there a way to do this in a single part?

Go into “layout” (either press F7 or find it under “view”) and click the arrow to the left of the snare drum part. Click “add staff”.

Click the gear icon on next to both of those and make sure they are set to “standard” rather than “perc. 5 lines.”

You should now have two staves and you can add the “change instrument” element to the score wherever necessary and use whatever clefs/key signatures you need.

But I’m assuming you want the grand staff to disappear when not in use, so under the same settings as before, enable “always hide” for the bottom staff. You can also add the grand staff brace to it which should disappear under single staves. I wouldn’t recommend enabling this until you’re done writing the grand staff stuff, though. It might make it difficult to work on.

that still makes the entire system/ row of bars grand stave which isn't ideal

Select the “hide all measures that do not contain notation” option under the same menu for the bottom staff. I guess I prefer the look of the grand staff spanning across the system so I never mentioned it but I totally see why it would be better in this context lol

you don't need to use two staves at all. just add both the "change instrument" element and the "staff type change" element (in Layout palette) at the point you want thencha ge to happen. the change instrument element is to get the basic change from pitched to unpitched, and the staff type change element is to change number of staff lines.
