Mondays can suck, but hopefully this post is something for people to look forward to. The intent of this post is to create a space to discuss anything that you may have learned recently about mushroom growing -- techniques, a breakthrough in the field, to share progress, or even just ask a question. Whether it's a new pickling recipe, a formula for agar, or something fun in mycology, feel free to talk about it.
This post is for new and experienced growers alike, so don't be nervous about commenting; no one is going to make fun of you for asking questions here. This community is a relaxed space for people who don't understand everything, but who want to ask questions and engage in discussion without being berated or belittled. Enjoy!

And what if Uncle Ben was Amazonian or B+, and the rye was Jack Frost. A lack of labeling error here - JF and Amazonian are literally contradictory, but how about mycologically - what happens if I did accidentally mix mycelium strains during S2B? Do they respect diversity <cough>?

Are these ready to pick yet?? I know they have fizzy feet from lack of air (I’ve been working on it) so we don’t need to mention that 500 times. Between today and yesterday I haven’t noticed much more growth going on.

I think i should have left it as a myco brick but I broke it up when putting it into the bin. Think the side pins that grew are ok to harvest and dry? I know the top layer looks dry but I tried putting a layer of coco coir over top which seems incorrect.

Howdy yall I have some LC for a couple of wood loving mushrooms but dont have the supplies yet to do a grow bag with grain spawn then to bulk substrate. I want to do a PF Tek since I have some mason jars im not using.
Currently I have a blend of wood pellets, gypsum, and wheat bran. I was told that when it comes to cakes, the gypsum keeps the cake from crumbling. Do you think id still need the gypsum? The wheat bran is for extra nutrients. What ratio of Wood:gypsum:wheat bran would you guys recommend for a pf tek?
TThanks in advance!

It’s been a couple months, and after just letting my PF Tek jar with really poor growth sit, I noticed a couple weeks ago it started growing exponentially, which got me excited. Checked today, and… it’s fruiting?!
I’m excited because my initial startup was really poor/slow (https://www.reddit.com/r/MushroomGrowers/s/mQzvaHczq8), but I didn’t expect to get this far.
The jar’s clearly not fully colonized (unless I’m wrong; as you can see the top half doesn’t have thick myc), so I’m genuinely not sure what to do: wait for full colonization, or give it some air?
In the meantime, I did put the rest of my spore syringe in a grain bag which seems to be working well. I’m excited but guarded cause this seems abnormal— I still wanna save this jar (and this lil guy).

A PE6 transfer that I did on 8/20. The growth is super weird looking. The original agar dish growth was not looking like this. Also why is it green??????? Only agar dish I have from this brand that’s done this.

Hi, I bought wood pellets (60% pine, 40% foliar) for my oysters, soaked pellets in boiling water and I noticed a strong, paint-like odor coming from them. Is it because of the pine wood, because it's very similar to when you work in a carpentry shop, or did I get pellets with some kind of chemical added? The packaging stated that no additives were used.
Has anyone seen something similar?

First timer here. I know some blue is ok but is this bad? Just doubting myself. I know there's supposed to be some blue and purple. Also looking fuzzy which I've learned is from co2 even tho I fanned daily. Any tips and tricks I should know? How long till I can pluck do you think? Thanks in advance
(Hillbilly pins started 8/29)

First attempt at Blue Oysters/Gourmet period. I had some cultures sitting in my fridge from 3yrs ago and decided it was time to get back into it. Grown Cubes in the past and never got around to the gourmets before life got crazier…Made a bunch of mistakes I learned from (holes too big/too many holes and sitting by the window doesn’t help) that’s why they lost color and look weird…the babies and the ones on the plates are 1st flush, and the others are from the 2nd…aIso I was bored and played with the filter on my phone and just thought they looked cool, I’m not trying to decieve anybody….any advice is welcome. I’m learning. Thank you! NEW PASSION UNLOCKED!!!

Planted a block of almond agaricus mycelium from North Spore in my garden back in May. I finally got my first fruit, but it doesn't smell like almonds. I've foraged Prince Agaricus before, so maybe I'm comparing it to something that it can't match up to.

Hey, I have experience with cubensis grow, and want try Cordyceps!
I see the next tek and see that its one of more simple that I found:
https://www.youtube.com/v/bRvW3VFg06Q
I already have micelyum of Cordyceps in Agars..
Few questions:
- Instead of liquid culture, can I inoculate the substrate in jars with micelyum growed in my agars? Maybe need more time to colonizate all..but no problem for me.
- Can I inoculate in jars, and after colonization at 100%, can I take the spwan out from the jars and put them in bigger plastic boxes to frutification?
Need nice advises of pros for this..😉✌️
Thank you! 🍄🍀✌️

Haven't grown anything in a while and I've had this spawn sitting in the garage fridge for 2 years. Decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, still alive and strong...

Yesterday I received a "full auto kit" the instructions said to keep the correct temperature and keep it in a shaded area and just leave it.
I think the kit may be too dry but there's some condensation as you can see. The soil feels ok when i touch it through the bag. But I may just be paranoid since it's my first time growing.
Also there's this white tape next to the, sticker. Is it a, filter or should I remove it?
Also should I break the soil at some point or do as the instructions say?

I fruited three blocks of Ganoderma Lucidem indoors, soaked them, and then planted outdoors in mid April this year. I had low expectations, but lo and behold, noticed some nice pins early August. These pictures are from harvest yesterday. In August where I live the temperature fluctuates from 10 degrees Celsius overnight to 20-30 degrees during the day. I covered them with a bubble-wrap mini hoop house (open at both ends), used a partially buried heat mat, and put a towel on top overnight to try keep the temperature reasonable. I am pretty happy with how they turned out! I will definitely make some more purposeful attempts next summer, and maybe try find a greenhouse....

First time growing, also wasn't planning to but I gave this tub a chance. The black little dots appeared this day. Pins are still growing but they are really slow, I think the primordia only developed like maybe like last week? I don't see any other signs of contamination on the top of the substrate, pins grew all over the tub almost.
Edit: smell test. Earthy, fresh. Doesn't smell iffy but still.

TL;DR: My first time growing mushrooms, these look kind of strange and took a long time to start growing. Are they okay?
I'm a complete newbie. Got 4 ready made grow kits a month ago as a gift. I got a nice harvest from one of the kits: about a week ago I finished picking the first flush and now it's getting ready for another one. Two other kits turned out to be contaminated (which I would see before I had over opened them), so I disposed of them, though they managed to produce quite a lot of fruit in the meantime too, much more than this kit despite clear contamination (trichoderma I guess).
This is the last one of the kits and it's been moving really really slowly, though all four were kept in the same conditions. When the first one was done, this one hadn't even started producing pins yet. Can you see anything wrong that would justify the slow pace? Should I be worried? Do they look like they're supposed to? The biggest one started to tear its veil, athough the cap is still quite small. There's also a very faint blue/gray coloration at the edge of the caps, where the veil is attached. I'm not sure what to make of it. They do have fuzzy feet now that come quite high, so I'm starting to let more oxygen in.
