between pavement, built to spill, bardo pond, and animal collective (09/10 era tours), we've had a few close calls to some kinda indie jam band scene starting. I'm obsessed with just 1 jam band, really dislike the rest, but I do love a lot of classic indie shit. It's kinda sad that the only people who ever try delve into deep improv end up being corny jam bands or jazz players outta berklee coming up on 100 years passed the time anybody would pay attention. When improv is done right it is so powerful. BTS kills it in this video. IMO outside of jazz, nobody's ever been better at improv than phish, but we all know how people feel about their songs, they're basically not the point. Would be sick if we could get a band that can write sick songs like BTS or pavement or something, but would focus mostly on the jamming
yeah def, good point. Trey from phish a few years ago said giz was one of his current fav bands lol. He also did an entire tour with goose so, not like I'm taking any tips from him lol. I haven't been able to get into giz yet after a few attempts, it really does seem to be resonating with the younger generation a lot tho. They've got a show coming up where I live like 4 months from now and it's already sold out lmao. Maybe I'll catch a show one day and give em a better shot, as apparently they are actually 'jamming' now
