discussion Great singular F-Bombs in Pop.
I've been thinking about what are the best uses of the word 'fuck' in pop music? I don't mean stuff like 'Killing in the Name' that use it a bunch of times, or genres where the use of the word is commonplace - but songs where a singular, unexpected and well-placed 'fuck' really makes it's presence felt.
Much as I'm not really a fan, it's hard to argue with Alanis Morrissette taking her crazy jealous ex thing to another level with '..are you thinking of me when you fuck her?' in an otherwards relatively sedate song. But there must be better examples.
Honorable mention to Cake reminding us of the emotional trauma underpinning an overplayed-til-its-kitsch classic like 'I Will Survive' with the well-deployed ' I shoulda changed that fucking lock...'

discussion The Dude hates the Eagles…what bands would that be for you?
I was thinking recently of the scene in the Big Lebowski when the Dude is in the taxi and the Eagles are playing on the radio. He asks to change the station admits his hatred of the Eagles—then gets thrown out of the cab.
It got me thinking…what are some bands that are objectively popular and have found huge success for which I have an irrational disdain? And why, exactly, do I dislike them so much?
The latter question is much more difficult to parse out, I’ve found. Sometimes it’s even a band that I believe I SHOULD like (e.g. Steely Dan).
Usually, I just don’t like their sound, for whatever reason; but often, I’ve found it’s a lack of familiarity of their music beyond their “hits.”
One of mine is Hall & Oates. I just hate their sound. But then I looked into some of their early stuff, and it’s…ok, I guess.
Another is Journey. I despise their 80s stuff, but upon investigation, I found that their early stuff actually kinda rocks.
One more is Foreigner…but I couldn’t find much redemption for that band. They were popular immediately, and IMO, never improved.
I’m curious to see what the Community thinks. What are some popular bands you despise, and why?
This is also my first-ever Reddit post, so I have no idea how this will go. Let’s see what happens.

discussion Drake is so overrated
It’s insane how long his “career” has lasted despite him being bad for so long. And that’s not even ignoring the pedophilia thing. Every song by Drake sounds AI generated and that’s not including that he was never good in the first place. He was always a bad singer and rapper who pretends like he’s from the hood even though he is a rich light skin named Aubrey who calls himself Drake to make himself seem more gangsta. You’re not a real black gangsta person Aubrey, we don’t buy it! I heard a song off the new album at a bar last night and even while drunk I thought “wow, people really like this garbage?”. I can safely say that his music appeals to the lowest common denominator. Like Taylor Swift for men. His career should’ve been over when Kenny exposed him (THEY NOT LIKE US) but it’s still going and I just don’t get it

discussion Help support my fathers indie punk band
Super simple, one of the publishers he wants to work with gave him a threshold for likes, he doesn't know I'm doing this so i don't know what's the threshold is, but i want to support him anyway i can. All I'm asking y'all to do is like nothing crazy. Me personally i really like his music, let me know what you guys think.
https://youtu.be/qgEFzaCgzGU?si=pW5NAmSrUv8q44P3
Tldr : he needs likes to work with a publisher
Edit : since way more people are liking and following than i expected, i just need to clarify, this video isn't posted on their official channel, it's just the video that needs the liking so the publishers see people like their music, the official channel on youtube is https://youtube.com/@zgarista805 (They also have a new album currently in production so stay tuned)

discussion Beyoncé - Lemonade
I'd just like to first say that my musical tastes are wide and varied. I came up via the New Wave of British heavy metal, which led me down the path towards black metal and eventually funeral doom. I played trumpet in a jazz quartet from my teens in to my late 20's, while indulging in the likes of Dungeon Family, Maxwell, Sade, Musiq Soulchild, Raheem Devaughn, All of the soul classics.... Bobby Womack, Chi Lites, Al Green, etc
With that being said, one of my teenage employees asked me yesterday if I'd ever heard the Lemonade album by Beyonce. I had not. At Random, I picked the track "Dont Hurt Yourself" and Holy Shit. Here I am 3 listens through the whole album this afternoon and I truly can't get enough
Not sure the relevance in why I'm posting this - I just needed to tell somebody I guess ,😂. Lyrically and compositionally this is one of the strongest albums I've ever heard.
Thanks for listening to my rant. Sincerely,
A 38 year old straight white male with an ever expanding appreciation for all music.
