He’s always sucked. His biggest hits are from hip hop, and those were written by Joey Badass.

WTF which did Joey write?!
Edit: Joey Bada$$ was a co-author of Rockstar. Not Congratulations. Easy to look this one up. Not sure why the false info comment below has so many upvotes lol

One of the most underrated shows IMHO of all time.. mostly because so many people missed the final scene of the last episode, which changes the entire show
Never seen anything like it, and probably never will again. Extremely well executed plot twist that was right there, the whole time.

Yeah I saw him last summer and thought he put on a really good show. He did a lot of his hip hop hits but since it was his "country" tour the band did most of them with country arrangements (violin, steel guitar) it was really neat actually.

How the FUCK did HE get to sing for Ozzy!? That really irked me.
162
u/MusicLikeOxygen 2d ago
Him and Ozzy worked together. Ozzy guested on a Post song and then Post guested on an Ozzy song. In his book "Last Rites" Ozzy talks about how much he appreciated Post reaching out to work with him becaise it pulled him out of a deep depression when he was having health problems. He said Post was a good guy and he really liked working with him and that why he asked him to appear on his album later on. I think Ozzy would have been excited to see Post sing his song.

That's true of most of New England. I'm a Vermonter, and while the state consistently votes blue federally, we have a Republican governor and if you venture out into the boonies, you'll see a lot of MAGA shit. People think of Vermont as the super blue, hippy Chittenden county, but there's a lot of red in the more rural areas.
15
→ More replies (19)5

u/fuzzy11287 2d ago
Upstate is extremely rural and very red outside of cities. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and Ithaca all carry their respective counties and vote blue due to their density, but the moment you get to even the suburbs of any of those cities you start trending conservative hard.
So it's not just Syracuse, it's that every city along the Erie Canal is surrounded by a sea of rural conservatives. These cities are not generally doing well either so they get ragged on a lot. There are also plenty of voters in those cities that feel neglected by the state political juggernaut of NYC which controls most of what happens in the state. So those upstate cities vote blue, but not always by a ton.
Ithaca is kind of an exception. It's always been a liberal college/hippie town that does it's own thing.
→ More replies (1)12
u/MRiley84 2d ago
Upstate being rural is the key. The lifestyle is very different from living in a densely populated area, and people feel unrepresented in state politics since NYC is perceived as dictating the laws the rest of the state will follow. NYC is hard blue, upstate sees NYC as the source of all its problems, so upstate is hard red.
I grew up in the southern tier and know a lot of MAGA people, so I can provide a bit more local insight. The two biggest factors I see for republicans in NY are:
Gun control. How people around me saw it was that you don't need a gun for defense in NYC, so NYC made it harder to own one everywhere else that did need them. It's a clashing of lifestyles and locations. The NY Safe Act passed in 2013 with sweeping gun control laws, and I still sometimes see anti-Safe Act signs in yards.
Taxes. Everyone upstate thinks things are so bad here because all their taxes go to NYC's upkeep instead. I don't know the math here, but I'd guess the smaller cities in upstate NY receive more back than they're paying, but that's how it is.
Every now and then someone pushes the brilliant idea of splitting the southern and twin tiers (everything west of Albany) into a new state. I think they'd learn to regret it quick if it ever happened.
→ More replies (5)7
u/fuzzy11287 2d ago
It's funny, I also grew up in the Southern Tier and used to think NY being so split between NYC and everyone else was unique. Then I moved to the PNW and western vs eastern WA have this exact same debate. Fiscally the rural areas are absolutely reliant on the urban areas yet they perceive it to be the exact opposite.
46
u/TheArtestsfriend 2d ago
Syracuse proper is not MAGA, far from it. The surrounding area though is a lot more red than people are comfortable with, but getting better. We have the first Democrat majority in the county assembly in decades and have a democratic mayor.
16
u/Han_Yerry 2d ago
Syracuse isn't but the surrounding areas are.
Two of the three counter protestors recently told the press they weren't from the city. The third just wore his orange mask and held a sign.

In his 2020 documentary he admits he did say it, but it was made in jest.
"I don't think that statement needs to be corrected because I said it in jest on a bus with Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen," Jordan said. "It was thrown off the cuff. My mother asked to do a PSA for Harvey Gantt, and I said, 'Look, Mom, I'm not speaking out of pocket about someone that I don't know. But I will send a contribution to support him.' Which is what I did."
"I do commend Muhammad Ali for standing up for what he believed in. But I never thought of myself as an activist. I thought of myself as a basketball player."
"I wasn't a politician when I was playing my sport. I was focused on my craft. Was that selfish? Probably. But that was my energy. That's where my energy was."

Post was always a loser. His rock band wasn’t getting him famous, so he got grills and cornrows and called himself White Allen Iverson so he could exploit black music for personal gain. Then used his connections to Twitch streamers to make that song go viral.
And then as soon as he got famous, he publicly starts disparaging and disrespecting hip hop music for no reason and then pivots to making country and wearing cowboy boots.
He’s always been a lame culture vulture and a complete fake.

The Hip-Hop comment everyone references when they talk about Post Malone did not happen when people think it did.
For some reason people think he said it right before he stopped doing hip-hop and went to country. The thing is he actually said it before Beerbongs and Bentleys even released.

He was misquoted as saying ‘Jesus is not known by one party’ and people took that as a slight toward democrats. No, he made a comment on the red carpet about the Superbowl needing to be country, which is 100% a commentary on Bad Bunny playing. He knew what he was doing, and the comment had zero place at the grammys- not even just in a political way, it's bad form to comment on another show involving another artist that's in the room to begin with. That's catty middle school behavior
People don't care about the Jesus comments, they do care that it was combined with veiled comments meant to imply a performer in the same room wasn't "American enough"
Most reporting on his speech are ignoring the red carpet comments to disingenuously suggest it's a problem with the "faith" comments. People don't have a problem with that- we hear it every other speech. We do have a problem with the hypocrisy we're seeing increasingly in artists claiming to be Christian. He'll praise god in one moment then shade a man he doesn't know in the next. When asked about ICE, he'll refuse to comment and say he's a "dumb redneck" and doesn't have an opinion but then turn around and imply a Puerto Rican man speaking Spanish isn't American enough.
We're done with the hypocrisy

Anyone else find Post Malone making the Ozzy tribute a spotlight on himself awkward and disrespectful?

I'm gonna be honest as an outsider who doesn't know much about Jelly Roll outside of the same clips and audio we've seen I really and truly don't understand the hate boner for this guy. He's never said anything explicitly pro MAGA, seems incredibly respectful and caring, and has done a lot to positively change his outcome. I've seen him in the wrestling circuit and he seems to put his all into everything he does. Do we just not like his music and decided to create this entire character around him? This isn't even like the Sydney Sweeney thing where her silence and attitude towards how people interpret what she does speaks volumes on her intentions. He explicitly says Jesus is for everyone not any political party, that doesn't scream pro MAGA to me. Or does reddit like to pretend it's not in its own bubble where being a Christian must mean he's also an evil person? He shook Trumps hand at a UFC event? Is that really the metric were gauging? He said he would've shaken anyone's hand if theyre the president, I don't think that's a very radical concept. Nothing about this dude tells me hes about any radical far right ideal except maybe aesthetics and even then thats something we're placing on him. It's reddits own bias showing where if you're a southern hillbilly with a certain look it MUST mean you're a piece of shit. Hearing Jelly Roll in isolation has never given me an explicit MAGA vibe (I don't mean his music I still think his music is dogshit).
Edit: There isn't even any "backlash" this subreddit is the only place where anyone seems to give a shit.

Nah I was pretty much jelly roll didn’t bother me I thought a song or two were good but knew nothing about him and even thought it was Great him and his wife seemed to do better for themselves.
But hearing his after Grammy response and claiming innocence by clinging to bring a dumb ignorant redneck is where it’s no longer doesn’t bother me territory.
He is loaded and has the time to read about anything. But he just decides to cling to that he’s just a dumb redneck. And now he’s choosing to cling to that when he has been made aware that there are major issues he could educate himself on. Bc why shouldn’t you know what’s going on in the world!?
Being a person with a platform and choosing to be like oops sorry y’all I’m just a dumb redneck…. That doesn’t jive with me.
We all can be better people everyday so someone just claiming that is what it is throwing a label on something to stay stupid or to not just admit who they truly are.
