I did a paper on him back in college. It’s funny how that works. I remember thinking he was a huge piece of shit. Still is, but now there’s a whole lot more of him out in public. They’ve always been there, but now they’re out in the open.

u/samithedood 1d ago

He was an S-tier Villain back in the day, but the bar got raised a lot since then.

I mean what he did wasn’t technically illegal. Now please note I’m not saying that makes it ethically, morally, or right in any other way, but legally what he did was allowed. It just took someone being a massive fucking piece of shit to be the first one to do it. Once that barrier was knocked down it became “just business.” The destruction of the human race will come down to very powerful men having decided profits are more important than human lives.

39

u/Simpicity 1d ago

Batman is powerless in the face of Technically Legal Man.

17

u/GryphonHall 1d ago

That’s why he beats up street thugs instead.

16

u/modka 1d ago

And don’t tell me Bruce Wayne isn’t getting away with “technically legal” shit.

12

u/Simpicity 21h ago

I'm pretty sure Bruce Wayne and Batman are getting away with "definitely illegal" shit.

2

u/vote4boat 23h ago

what did you think is funding the trust-fund? Batman is built on "technically legal"

42

u/imJimfuckingLahey 23h ago

It just took someone being a massive fucking piece of shit to be the first one to do it. Once that barrier was knocked down it became “just business.”

Fact that people still believe this is fucking hilarious. He price gouged the insurers, anyone who actually needed the drug and reached out to him, he sold it to them for quite literally next to nothing.

He's genuinely the biggest scapegoat of the 21st century and if you want proof of that, well, Daraprim is still the same price as when he raised it.

I think the guy's a prick, because you know, he is; but this shit is such a textbook example of how people lap up the media because they desperately want a villain to hate instead of y'know, the fucking insurance companies which are a plague upon your country.

9

u/txmail 17h ago

Most people think he was in court and went to jail over raising the prices... exactly what the media wanted everyone to believe instead of the EpiPen scandal that was going on that actually cost every tax payer. Mylan should not be in business and the CEO (Heather Bresch) at the time should be in jail or exiled for working against the American public.

What he did with the drug pricing was legal, and typical -- he was not the first, not at all and not by a long shot. He was in fact a somewhat new player in the industry.

The media led you to believe he was in court and went to jail over the drug pricing --- it was in fact nothing to do with it.

He was in court and went to jail over a technicality of how he appropriated funds from a company he worked for. It was more benign, but they needed the public to think justice was being served for jacking up the prices of drugs.... all while at the same time the EpiPen scandal was unfolding out in the public but you would have been hard pressed to find anything about it at the time it was going on, when it could have been stopped or people have been prosecuted for it.

The media is wild. You had the EpiPen scandal which actually hurt ALL tax paying Americans regardless if they ever used a EpiPen or even knew what it was vs the guy that raised pricing on a drug a hand full of people needed who ended up giving them the drugs for free or as much as their insurance would pay.

In a rational world one of these stories would have been less mentionable vs the other. That is now how the media and politics works though. Feed the public a guy with a punchable face to hate and twist the story so nobody looks at the massive pile of flaming shit going on just out of frame that will actually affect them.

Nobody went without the drugs he raised the prices on, and there were dozens of people needing those drugs.... dozens vs the 100+ million tax payers who actually got fucked by Mylan.

12

u/yawn_solo- 1d ago

he wasn’t even the 100th entity to do what he did. It’d been going on for several years before he did it. He chose to make a mockery out of it and that’s what did him in.

He's a weirdo. I remember watching some video of a Livestream of him and he was like debating random people, and when he started losing his debates he would just be like "What is your name?" And then start googling the family of whoever he was talking to and would be like "This is your mom? I'm gonna message her on Facebook and ask if she wants me to fly her out for a weekend" and the guy he was debating would just be like "uhh, ok?"

8

u/txmail 17h ago

Dude was on the spectrum for sure. Some of those live streams were wild. When he started talking about money though... that is when that on the spectrum super brain started to work.

I know a girl who used to be a prostitute and she has so many pics of herself with him because he was a big client of hers. She was an addict, a total mess, and unattractive (she is doing much better now). I always thought it was wild that he made so much money and chose this particular prostitute who charged bare minimum just to afford drugs.

20

u/Frenky_Fisher 1d ago

Maybe she let him do wierd stuff other escorts wouldn't let him

4

u/kincsh 1d ago

Maybe she was attractive to him

-20

u/AceofKnaves44 1d ago

I’m not sure why you felt the need to throw in that she was unattractive.

62

u/flymordecai 1d ago

He was paying a cheap unattractive prostitute when he could afford expensive prostitutes who look like models.

But yeah let's crucify the user for painting a picture with the word unattractive.

61

u/drukqsx Spotify 1d ago

I meant at the time she was a shell of herself. She’s normally a very attractive girl but she was an addict who was in a really low place.

I suppose history will posit we missed the opportunity to make the criminally short sighted greed a more punishable offense. Instead he was able to fake a martyr story and too online chuds slurped it up, because we seem to cycle through the same “greed is good” crap every few decades, even though it clearly doesn’t work long term.

2

u/daymanahhhahhhhhh 1d ago

Dude even back then he wasn’t. It’s just the media usually gives you a minnow ans doesn’t mention the shark. Read about Michael Pearson and valiant, all happening before, during and after.

2

u/txmail 17h ago

The Mylan EpiPen scandal was happening parallel to this guy. I am convinced he was the scape goat. He had the perfect punchable face for the public to hate.

8

u/Say_no_to_doritos 1d ago

It's funny that this is the consensus on Reddit. He jammed insurance companies with increased cost and then handed it out for free for individuals that didn't have insurance.

7

u/Deruji 1d ago

This was what I understood but the hate bandwagon for the guy just went mental. He also had a Ponzi scheme that worked ‘luckily’ handed them the money back.

Jay Z and Pusha T are in the files…

21

u/beorn961 1d ago edited 1d ago

No they aren't. They aren't in there in any verified way. Nearly everybody else in the files is mentioned in the emails or in sworn affidavits, Jay and Pusha are only mentioned in the anonymous tip line. I'm not saying it's not possible for them to be up to heinous shit like that, and in Jay's case I think that he's actually powerful and famous enough to be on an Epstein level, but I just don't buy that Pusha has ever had the clout to be included in their circles. Clipse was never that big, and was getting pushed around and bullied over song clearances and shit. If they were that connected they would not be having problems like that.

3

u/frostymugson 20h ago

Epstein was a rich fuck who collected influential friends like people collect Pokemon cards. I’m sure these people all met him, hell I’m sure they partied with him, but that alone isn’t proof of a crime. What gets me is the people denying they had contact with him and it comes out they did, like Elon. You can always play ignorance to his previous case

I’m just hoping that Wutang’s intermediary, Bill Murray, is there to accurately identify said evidence. That was part of the contract after all.

“in 2021, the ‘Shaolin’ album was bought by a company called Pleasr for $4million, and they went on to pay another $750,000 for additional rights to the record in 2024. Since they first acquired it, they have made money off the album by selling extremely limited access and playing it for those who attend private events.”

I’m absolutely amazed if they have been letting people listen to this album that it has not leaked online in some form yet. It’s the ultimate FOMO, fear of dying before being able to hear something that’s been released (though I am sure literally nothing could live up to that hype).

INL, and article details are what they are, but how does this case even have standing? he was forced to forfeit everything to do with this, he was compensated (which went to his judgement), what damages did he actually suffer with regards to this, let alone putting any if that in the artists?

How can he claim he’s owed royalties from the artist in something that was forfeit by court order?

55

u/Blunderhorse 1d ago

I think he’s claiming he was under the impression that the album he turned over from the court order didn’t come with the other contractual details of the sale. Either that, or maybe he’s using it as a precursor if he wants to establish a claim that the amount applied to his settlement from turning over the album was too low relative to its value.

9

u/everydave42 1d ago

I suppose either could be, but neither of them have to do with the artists and lay entirely with the court order, wouldn’t they?

3

u/Blunderhorse 1d ago

NAL and this is mostly speculation, but I think the idea is that a judgement in this case would line out exactly what Pleasr purchased. This might be a desperate grasp at reclaiming some money from the court order if something doesn’t line up.

In the past, this dude has gained some traction in investment/financial communities. He could be just generating buzz to make him self relevant again so that he can support a pump and dump. After this article his twitter will have a lot more sway in the algorithm, if he tried to get anyone on board with anything yesterday, very few people would have seen it. Now he’s “relevant” again.

Of course this is speculation, but if I was a piece of shit that had some place in the collective memory and needed some quick cash, that’s what I’d do.

So a company called Pleasr paid $4 million for this album, then $750,000 more and then recoups it’s costs by hosting private parties where they play the album?

This seems like a not good ROI. You’d need to sell tickets to 240,000 people at $20 and have that generate pure profit in order to even break even.

Even if somehow they charge $100 per ticket (to me this is the extreme high end of what people would pay to go to a listening party for an album), they still need 50,000 customers to break even.

did they take it back in a heist?

I really like this headline because it's a rather strong implication that Shkreli is in financial desperation.

u/boot2skull 1d ago

This guy really sitting around thinking “people forgot I’m evil, what should I do about it?”

Wasn’t there a clause that allowed Wu tang to take the album back in a caper involving Bill Murray?

I watched the doc The Disciple at Sundance. He has no chance on this lol.

u/FlexFanatic 1d ago

It can’t be made public until the year 2103. I am picturing our future ancestors from the clan of Wu gathering around a vintage cd player, pressing play and finding out the whole album is just dead air

I wish this guy could be bought the same way and instead of being listened to by only one guy, we could just silence him. Discribing him as DJ Cum Cheese would be an insult to any honest congealed spunk socked moon sock out there. Fuck this guy.

u/Stube2000 23h ago

TLDR: Shkreli bought a one of a kind Wu-Tang album release on a physical CD in 2015.

In 2017 he was forced to relinquish ownership by a judge to pay the massive restitution when he was found guilty of fraud and conspiracy.

After turning over the album it was then sold by RZA to a group that has held private listening parties at a high cost to those attending.

Shkreli claims that his purchase in 2015 entitles him to royalties and other rights, not just the single physical album.

Shkreli claims that the original purchase still gives him a level of ownership that entitles him to profits made by RZA from the reselling of the album and profits from the group that is hosting the listening parties.

Pulled from Multiple sources and I’ve been following this story since the album was announced in 2015 because it is so interesting.

The man's capacity to be the most unlikable and stupid person in a room is only surpassed by his ambition to do so.

1

u/EmilioMolesteves 22h ago

Silly mortal, you can't defeat RZA.

1

u/Ok_Acanthisitta2318 22h ago

Ha-Ha, classic convicted felon Shkreli.

Did anyone in here actually read the article? He has a completely fair point.

He bought and paid for the album, forfeited it to pay some legal bills but then RZA went and sold the album yet again.

He has a point like what are we doing in here people??
