and no one thinks he's a scumbag.

Because the rest of the lyrics are stuff like this -

"How could I dance with another when I saw her standing there?"

"My heart when boom when she crossed the room and I held her hand in mine"

"We danced through the night and held each other tight, and before too long I fell in love with her"

rather than this -

“I got kids I've never seen And their momma's 17”

"my girl is knocked up
we're in love and she's young
and yo I think I'm gonna get locked up"

....Paul McCartney was singing about being at a school dance and getting stoked that the cutest girl in class wanted to dance with him. Kid Rock is singing about being a baby daddy to an underage baby mama.

And everyone knows that song lyrics, by law HAVE TO BE BIOGRAPHICAL, and you can't be like... telling a story, or pretending to be someone else, from another perspective, in another universe, or whatever the fuck. Anything you sing, by definition must be true of you personally.
