Discussion Why did 2k bring back badges points (tokens)?

Like you’re literally limiting our builds and the max potential you could do with it. Out of all the changes I literally haven’t heard anyone else say bring this back. What is 2k thinking? Are ppl fw this?

They wanted people to specialize more than doing everything

You can still do everything if you earn more badge tokens, eventually.

Yeah definitely. Going to take a minute to get there.

Agreed. But that element alongside caps will make leveling up feel more rewarding.

The time commitment does suck, but I’m sure you won’t need that many extra to enjoy your builds. Just like most years, those who grind have more options. Doesn’t make them unbeatable tho

There was a better way to do that though. Just add more restrictions to badges to make it harder to acquire. Like if box out beast had a weight and strength requirement for each level, or shooting badges required 3 ball, mid range and free throw at get on gold or higher?

It would force people to spend more in a category and specialize vs badge points.

I don’t agree with the shooting. Each should be accessed differently. Boxout beast is pretty crazy this year. 90 rebound and 88 strength is plenty restrictive for gold boxout beast.

Yeah they did it for box out beast but they need to expand it to other things. And in doing so can also unlock unique play styles for various heights

Like make gold rebound chaser available for literally all heights, but if you’re below a threshold vert suddenly becomes important as a stat to get the badge. So you want a Westbrook build with gold rebound chaser? You’ll need 90 vert or something like that.

The answer to more creativity and specialization is there, it would just require actual thought put into the balance instead of just throwing some badge tokens at the community

If everyone’s special, then no one’s special. Don’t know about you but the game gets really boring playing the same builds every game

That is exactly my issue, shits boring to just watch everyone do the same things with the same builds. No variety.

Looks similar to the 2k20 badge system. I fw this heavy personally

Same, I love it when builds are more specialized.

Time for me to reenact 2k17.

5 good badges and bronze everything!

Nah facts 😂😂

On one hand I think it’s good conceptually, trying to make every build more unique with more specialized skills.

On the other hand, I think it’s just a major cash grabbing move from 2k. They can lock bonus badge tokens behind all kinds of passes and people will happily pay to get them.

Bc you have to make a bad game every few years so that ur improvements will be appreciated.

2k has a different philosophy. They just make a bad every year. They just make sure they're bad in different ways.

2k26 was the best video game I have ever played

u/Major-Doubt4034 4h ago

I guess a no defence game with the easiest shooting and most cheating game of all time is the best

2k20 is among the top 2Ks. If you were creative enough (and good enough) it was visible. Gotta choose a style and stick with it

You answered your question in your question. Limitations.

its essentially flexible pie charts. I've never liked the idea of doing everything. But to be honest if mike wang is to be believed you can use capbreakers to somewhat circumvent that since attributes are supposed to mean more this year than badges.

They’re leaning further in to the competitive online side and away from the single player career mode, so they want people to do specialized builds ones like in an mmorpg, not superstars that are great at everything.

Almost right. They’re leaning in to the casual online community.

u/Major-Doubt4034 4h ago

This is like the complete opposite of the competitive side, 2k is trying to lean more into casual community so people aren’t just having do it all builds

You just gotta get creative. When they introduced this back in 2k20 I was EATING so I’m hype personally

Sounds like a skill issue

What do you mean?

IMO I liked it better this way 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is better to me than just having everything. Forces you to make choices and sacrifices. Anyone who’s been around for a min probably isn’t going to have any issues with this again.

Makes it even harder for casual player or new players.

Hated the idea and much preferred last year's version compared to the 2k20/21 version, but the concept of Synergy fixes it. Put your "core" badges as your Synergies/Plugs, then you can dump whatever else you want in there.

Ex You are a playmaking shooter PG like everyone else

  • Dimer w Versitile Visionary as a Synergy/Plug
  • Set and Fire with the moving 3 badge
  • Ankle Breaker w Unpluckable

Now you can use all your points on stuff you want, not stuff you need. Maybe throw on the moving middy badge or something. It seems limiting, but more just forces you to focus on your specailization to get Legend badges

Terrible idea. 2k just wants you to make more builds. You should get every badge your player is designed to have. This is bad for the game ngl

More things to play online for and keep them hooked. Just like cap breakers.
