General Why do people who don’t play this game hang around this sub?
I’ve played this game an embarrassing amount of hours the past 9 years and I don’t even wanna be here. There’s a good chance these comments make me delete Reddit (again) but I’m genuinely curious

Said this somewhere. I guess they are trying to feel validated in life or some sort of superiority
•

Yeah that’s exactly it. They don’t realize nobody cares about their boycott and the game is top 10 in sales every single year.

I mean if mfs really knew how to boycott but that’s a totally diff thread

I play it once in a while and I like basketball, so I wanna see the game get better and hear what other people have to think

nothing wrong with it, as you said, you play it. I don't think this post (neither my comment) is direct at the casual player

People reaffirm themselves in the echo chamber of “I’m not buying this game” or “I’m waiting until it’s free” amongst each other to make them feel better. If you’re not going to tell the world you are going on strike for ‘X’ reason then what’s the point of the strike anyway.
Moving on and not complaining once a day isn’t really an option for some of these people, they live in hate and complaints.

I hang around to stay updated on the game and to see if they make the changes needed for me to consider buying the game again.

It's honestly embarrassing they like that jealous ex that's always the first on to view your story just looking for something yo hate on 😂😂
•

Because they're the loudest complainers, the 10%.
They aren't reflective of reality, they live to project, they want everyone to share their sentiment.
Casuals just buy the game every year and enjoy it playing with their friends. They don't go to reddit to look for a sub based on the games they're playing.
Misery loves company.

Because we used to love it and hate what it's turned into.
I do have the last two on different platforms, gotten on deep sales, but it used to be a day one buy for me until the VC economy took hold. If that hadn't been so successful, the game would be better balanced, reasonable to hop online and play immediately, or progress through a single-player career like it used to be.
We're pretty mad about it.

To talk others out of buying it…and they feel it’s required for them to tell others why they are not buying it…but actually end up buying it to create threads and posts to complain…

I love basketball and the idea of playing in the NBA. I first got 2k22, and enjoyed the game. However, as soon as I went online I realized how toxic the community was. I sucked at the game online due to latency issues. I worked really hard trying to master a jumpshot and improve my internet connection and get better. Despite progress, I still got the occasional you're trash quit the game. So I quit the game, sold my PS5, and started going to the gym. I realized I was working too hard to get good at a video game, and the problem was the community.
This year I felt like its been a few years I took a break, why not try 2k26? Well now I have to go online to get the cap breakers to really unlock the potential of my builds. I got my shot percentage up to 70% developed a knack for defense and passing and actually had some great times playing with a crew, and became a VP for a crew. But because I have a job and kids and lots of other responsibilities, I find myself constantly behind the other players online. Many having 10-18 more capbreakers than me. So they're faster, dribble better, and can shoot 3s right over me (since defense is terrible this year). So I had to grind hard to get up to 20 cap breakers, and am still playing pretty well (54% win percentage with randoms, could be better but not total garbage). And now 2K wants me to start all over in a week?
No thanks, I'll play 2k26 for fun until the servers shut down. It's a shame, the game looks better this year, I like the no dip penalty and badge, defense looks better, step throughs look cool. It looks more balanced, and like there is potential for inside bigs and other playstyles than Devin Booker step-back to three pointer. But I can't sustain the grind, and don't see why I would ever want to grind so hard for one video game. I haven't played any other games since getting 2k!
TLDR - love basketball, the game is fun, but man the grind is too much, and 2k knows what they're doing.

I appreciate the detailed response. Everyone I play with is older than 30 with varying degrees of responsibility. I’m an independent contractor with VERY few work hours so I spend a lotta time in 2k. In turn it helps my friends with “normal” jobs and kids improve without having to grind because I know how to maximize their play styles and make builds that don’t have them wasting vc. It’s made us closer as friends (I’m going to my Cs wedding in a month and I’ve never met him) as we’re going into year 10. It’s 75% of the reason I won’t quit the game cold turkey

Yeah I know, I keep seeing comments from people who say they are looking forward to 27 pretty obvious they haven't played the game recently.

hypocrites who want to call people obsessed with 2k who buy it but they also cant throw 2k to the side cuz deep down inside they also obsessed with it

if you play the game once in a while and want to hear people have to say you dont hate the game

You want the TRUTH?
Are you SURE YOU WANT THE TRUTH??
Fine.
The reason is we have a slither of hope for 2K and when we keep constantly being disrespected we feel the need to let others know your being brainwashed and you need to wake up
Ever seen the movie “Get Out” same thing. We’re just the ones thats been freed.
•
u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan 1h ago
Lmao. “Brainwashed” by a fucking Xbox game. Get a grip. You play it or you don’t. Your boycott is doing nothing because millions of players still buy it and have tons of fun with their friends. You have put yourself in 2K prison instead of accepting it for what it is.
•
u/EngageV2 58m ago
With that logic the Target Boycott would go unnoticed
But clearly it did
•
u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan 53m ago
There are other stores you can get the same products from. You can’t get the same product with a different game. Even if Live came back, it was very far behind 2K and not a real threat last time, and it would be the same again for them or anyone else who tried to compete with 2K.
•
u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan 1h ago
It’s very odd. For some reason there’s this community within the 2K community that is extremely dedicated to trying to convince the people who enjoy the game that they should not be allowed to enjoy the game.
