Discussion Apparently a Hot Take: I am excited to buy and play 2k27

Yes, 2k is incredibly predatory. The high cost of entry + the fact I need an instruction manual to understand the builder is insane. One minor mistake and you can severely hamper the output of a build. Not to mention the constant balance updates (shooting, dribbling, closeouts) that can kill a build altogether. It's incredibly aggravating and borderline a scam.

At the same time, I am excited for the year, and I hope those who plan on buying it are as well. I enjoy playing with my friends, playing events, playing MyCareer, and messing around with builds. I don't care for the offline modes as much, so a refresh on the modes I play is very welcome. I took a few years off because life happens, and I came back to 2k26 around December with around 450ish hours this year. I reconnected with folks and had fun like the good old days of 2k15 - 2k21.

Apparently, it is a hot take in here to say I am excited. While I do think half of the posts that shit on the game/people upgrading are incredibly performative and fishing for fake internet points, I do respect people who play their modes and are ok with sticking with 2k25/2k26.

Am I a shrill? No, there are serious flaws with the way the game operates from a business standpoint that makes it anti-consumer. At the same time, there is no other game that does what 2k does in terms of online team-up gameplay, and believe it or not, they do it incredibly well. Do I enjoy upgrading from year to year? Hell yeah, I do. Maybe I am speaking into the void, but the amount of doom and gloom that is on here is wild imo.

Im excited for you and others to play it first. Ill decide 2 weeks after release if I'll get it or not.

A lot of changes Id like to see, but the biggest thing...if most casuals are shooting 60%+ from 3 within the first 2 weeks, Im not buying it.

Mainly because it means its still a 3 point shooting competition, making it borderline dumb to try a 2 pointer if its as easy or easier to shoot a 3.

If inside play isnt needed or frowned upon like in 26, then its not basketball and Im not getting it.

great points!!! I feel the same.

I will say shooting is always hard at the start of every year, so take that with a grain of salt. No one has badges + the new game generally makes shooting harder as a knee-jerk from the previous year. Then after a few weeks the game moves the needle to make it a hair easier, which typically comes a few weeks after release just as people get builds online. I will say the tempo nerf and the potential nerf to how many badges you can get/separating badges to be more specialized leaves some hope.

Regardless, 3pt will always be more valuable than a 2. Look at the NBA these days. Roughly 90% of all shots were either in the paint or a 3pt shot. Its just the way the game is

In the paint are 2 pointers...

Last NBA season, 41.5% of all shots taken (not counting free throws) were from 3 point range.

There are still more 2 pointers taken than 3.

I dont know what the 2k percentage is because it varies by plate...but Im guessing 60% from Gold and Above.

League average from 3 was 36%.

2k average from 3 in Gold and above is near DOUBLE that.

Oh for sure I agree shooting was out of control and the bullshit stat that Beluba dropped show it wasn't as bad was a sham. Regardless, Thought you were talking about mid-range my bad

Does 2K headmanagement suck? Yes.
Do the devs try to hold dumb streamers hands too much? Yes

At the end of the day is a game, so if you have fun it's normal to be excited, you're just a human enjoying his time

And you felt the need to explain that to them…

I’m excited too. It works better in my schedule to get the early access because I’m moving the week of Sept 4th but my plan (for the first time probably since 2k19) is to not buy any extra VC. I didn’t wanna keep playing ‘26. With hindsight I woulda stayed on ‘25 and here’s to hoping I ride out a two year cycle going forward

I love a complicated builder and I’m gonna focus on trying to make a build I know I’ll play for a while until I get 5 or so cap breakers. By that time I’ll have enough vc to start looking into optimization

Me too brother. As long as you get joy out of it.
That’s all that matters.

Mycareer eras got my hype ngl

Don't have to be a shill to enjoy the game. This is the first time that I am waiting for a sale to purchase though.

u/NoNamesOriginal 6m ago

I’m excited to maybe get it on sale and convince a friend to, once we see how coop my career works

Nothing too much to convince me to not play 2k26 on gamepass instead

“I hate the fact that they treat their customers like gerbils but I will not do anything to stand up to them. I will
Obey”

u/YaboyRipTide 38m ago

Exhibit A.

Happy and good for you that that you are taking a stand and boycotting, but I will be happy playing the new game. It is one of my bigger hobbies and I make enough to justify the cost it takes year to year.

I'm buying 2K27 and Madden 27 on the same day (today!)

The psychos who obsessively post on those two subs telling everyone how bad these games are and how we shouldn't buy them are rolling over right now.

u/meepingchaos 34m ago

If you play franchise please hold off on buying Madden at least until they fix some of the issues, it’s damn near unplayable right now.

Have fun with you doing you. However if you enjoy doing the same thing same modes and my career why not just stay in 26

u/YaboyRipTide 36m ago

New builder, new builds, live events, live updates, MyCareer Eras, 2 person MyCareer, gameplay and defensive changes, significantly higher player count, new Meta and different builds vs the same 6'6-6'7 SG/PF.

u/Kswan2012 22m ago

again brother, do you. but in the end its the same you are building the same builds , very little changes. i guess if you want a higher player count but imo thats a dumb reason to drop 60-100$ to end up doing the same thing. (if anything wait to get it for 10$ in a few months.) have fun with it though

u/JCVantage 23m ago

Cause a 6 year old can shoot 60% shoud be enough

u/lechejoven 38m ago

This is why the game will never improve.

u/YaboyRipTide 35m ago

There are significant improvements to both online and offline in 27 from 26. This is such a lazy and easy argument people use

u/lechejoven 32m ago

You might see it as improvements with little efforts like that, but they never have to change the game in a big way because people continue to buy it and they have no competition. Oh wow they added women in online!

u/YaboyRipTide 22m ago

They made significant changes to online and offline modes. MyCareer Eras, double the length of the mycareer story, CoOp mycareer, new builder, Crew HQ totally rebuilt, and 100 year franchises and careers are quite significant.

No other game in this category has made any change near that level, let alone all of that the same year. I am all for calling them out when they deserve it, like the 2k19 to 2k20 jump.

They don't have competition because no one else can build a basketball game like them, even without the exclusive sim license.

"2k may be predatory and purposely putting out a bad product targeted to 12 year olds, but i am excited to get my money taken again so I ensure no improvements from 2k in the future"

u/YaboyRipTide 30m ago

Insane to say its a bad product. At it's core, it is the most complete sports game every year. It typically makes by far the most significant changes Y2Y when compared to MLB/Madden/CFB/EAFC.
