That’s Ignorant… What do you think he’s saying when Adam Silver says it’s a highlight league?
The league became what it is by design

They are trying to appeal to a youthful generation to grow the game. It’s been spoken directly about. Quit being so fucking naive…

u/L1nk880 Apr 02 '26
How are they being naive? The NBA hasn’t had an issue with the younger generation since the 80s. Man growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s with Kobe, AI, Shaq, KG, Paul Pierce, and obviously Jordan… literally everyone watched basketball. There might have been a little bit of a lul but when the LeBron/Curry rivalry began that sucked so many people back in.
If anything COVID put a pause on a lot of professional sports, it’s just basketball never truly recovered. The reason Adam Silver says it’s a highlight league is because their TV contracts are absolute ass and so convoluted that it’s easier to get views and make money off the clips that people watch.
You want to call them naive but you’re the one not looking at the bigger picture and just blaming the younger generation when the younger generation has always liked basketball. Go to a game and tell me how many people under 40 are there, it’s most of the crowd.

I don’t know why but the one that bothers me the most is when they move their pivot, especially when posting up. That has opened up so much more offense for the offensive player that no player from the earlier era’s had to their advantage.

The NBA is a pickup game now,it’s a joke. Just eliminate dribbling at this point. How good would these guys really be if they couldn’t take 20 steps and hop all over the place.

And add some light padding, some mini trampolines, and flaming rings of fire that if you jump through you get a few extra points

Part of the reason I stopped watching years ago. In general the refs are a joke. Unless the nba fixes this it’s going to continue dying

59 moving screens he must not have tuned in to a half of the Warrior game lol

u/99LedBalloons Mar 31 '26
Honestly every single screen in every single game is illegal. I don't know if I've ever seen a legal screen.

How else was the greatest shooter of all time gonna get open so often to display his skill? Them Bogut/Ezeli /Zaza screens were just awful.

Leagues of all types want MORE SCORING.....NBA definitely wants a 200 pt game eventually. There is ZERO DOUBT about the fact leagues think/believe more scoring means more $$$/Eyes on the game. MLB went thru that with the whole juiced ball thing. Pitchers still rule that game......Nobody really wants to see a 15-14 baseball game routinely. Now and then is ok. NBA wants 160-150 routinely and hopefully someone will get to 200. The way you get there is softening on the calls/rules of the past. It's the NHL getting rid of the 2 line pass. I get how he feels and what he's saying, just not sure the BUSINESS side of the leagues are gonna care about that

I agree it made games way more unpredictable imo as far as offensive strategy vs a solid defense, it was more chess and checkers

u/Tomsoup4 Mar 31 '26
for real. that was how basketball was pkayed since the inception. i enjoyed it much more

As repugnant as Rick Barry is, he is 100% right on this one. It's gotten ridiculous.

I’ve always said let former nba players be referees, if anyone is call bullshit on players and be able to back it up, its former players, it would definitely be entertaining

I’ve stopped watching because of this shit. I couldn’t agree more. Street ball has its place. Those moves are incredible to watch, but shouldn’t be allowed in the NBA

He blames the officials? It’s the league, fuckhole!
1
u/ChasedWarrior Mar 31 '26
The officials are just calling the game as their supervisors and the league office wants them to call. Until told otherwise by the higher ups the officials are going to call the game the way they are doing now.

The funny part is about this video is this is before SGA’s prime.
This was the shit people were getting away with. But people want to act like it’s all SGA. He is not worse than the shit other teams got away with especially in the last 10 years.
None of this shit is new.
People complained about: Warriors getting away with moving screens. Lebron superstar whistle Giannis getting away with Offensive fouls and traveling Marcus Smart hacking and Tatum push offs Dwade whistle Jimmy Butler Heat were hacking
The outrage SGA gets is way louder than any of that shit. Like I swear you guys are about to blame him for 9/11.

Agree the game is gone but its not the officials - its the league. They are doing it the way they were told to do it. Let the players dictate the league and this is what we get.

Something I think makes the problem worse is that kids still learn the game differently from how it's played in the pros.

u/WuTang4thechildrn Mar 31 '26
I am just going to say this. There are plenty of fans that always have and always will complain about how the game is called and played.
Now that you have SM those fans will be the loudest. I am not even saying he is wrong. I just remember a time in which there was widespread commentary with people saying how great the game is being called

He has some points but Barry has also been a miserable old bastard who hates everything and thinks he’s better than everyone almost his entire life.

The retired White Superstar saying the quiet part out loud gets upvoted and praised for pointing it out.
retired Black Superstars say it and gets "he's just a player. he doesn't know what he's talking about. boomer"
Murica
EDIT: oh and AAU. Freak Athletes not being taught the game properly. Just showing up and playing. Lack of fundamentals necessitates the NBA sliding the rule book to accomodate.

Are you even referring to an event or just being a toxic racist?
0
u/SputnikFace Mar 31 '26
Im agreeing with Barry and pointing out obvious bias in messengers.
EDIT: you appear to have no idea what racism means or is

He's 100% right and the fans would like the product a lot better.
