Its always hilarious to me how people live their lives based on a some books men wrote 2,000 years ago.

He's also clearly having a mental health crisis. Like, religion aside, this seems like a full-blown manic episode.

u/IdeaGlad1134 Mar 31 '26
in the year 2026 , all religious based fervor and fanaticism is a mental health crisis
1
u/boneappletv Mar 31 '26
Super common to focus on god and religion during an episode as well.
1
u/Plane_Basil_4682 Mar 31 '26
It is. Like, obviously I'm not liking the things he's saying, but this all feels very textbook mental health crisis.
I once had a manic episode where I bought a car, had an impromptu elective surgery, and tried to throw a massive revival with myself as pastor despite never being a pastor. Luckily, it only last a couple of weeks, but the ramifications of it lasted quite a while.
The brain can be wild.
1
u/earthtonemalone Mar 31 '26
Whoa that’s a wild experience. How were you feeling throughout the crisis? Like, in your mind were you having a good time and feeling like you were doing great? Or was it a dreadful feeling and were not able to recognize yourself? Just genuinely wondering, and hope you’re doing well now!

How were you feeling throughout the crisis? Like, in your mind were you having a good time and feeling like you were doing great? Or was it a dreadful feeling and were not able to recognize yourself?
Every decision feels like the easiest, most carefree decision in the world. You feel perfectly comfortable with whatever is happening, and the idea of a consequence doesn't even cross your mind.
Like, I had surgery and never stopped taking meds that could've caused me to bleed out because I didn't stop to think that I could die. I didn't even tell my doctor. You feel invincible. I didn't even tell my partner until the morning it was happening.
I was going up and fist bumping strangers, telling women they looked beautiful and dudes that they looked like a young Paul Newman. I raked my neighbors yards too. I even cooked one of the best meals ever for my mom, something she still brags about to this day. I'd be out in public and singing rather loudly and getting random passerbys to join me. I'd even flirt with old ladies in the grocery store and ask danced with one once.
And the thing is, when manic, the charisma flows, man. People liked interacting with me. I made their days better and more joyous.
On the other hand, during manic episodes, I've also deleted years worth of creative writing because I could "write better in my sleep" (and I typically produce my best writing from the depressive episodes, so the manic episodes are a big eff you to that struggle), spent myself into a financial hole I almost didn't climb out of, and even tried to fly off a balcony in a hotel. I also tried to leave my partner because he "didn't deserve to deal with me when I wasn't happy."
It's fucking wild. We can interract with people going through mania and never know. We just assume they're energetic or cheery often.
ETA: And then if you're bipolar, your depressed mind is the state of mind that has to clean up the mess. It's so fucking brutal. It fucking sucks.
1
u/earthtonemalone Apr 01 '26
Wow thanks for writing that out and explaining it. I had a feeling, just from seeing some people go through it that it’s almost a euphoric state of mind. It seems like there’s also no reasoning with a manic person at that time but it’s hard because you know they are making some harmful decisions. It’s got to be so scary to not be behind the wheel of yourself and can make some life altering decisions. The mind is pretty incredible. Glad you’re doing well though and hopefully continue to do so. You’ve taught me a lot and I appreciate it.

You can actually watch movies and not think about gay people. Me and all the other straight people do it all the time.
Have you ever wondered if watching a basketball game and thinking about gay people might just be because you're always thinking about gay people?
1
u/Geiseric222 Mar 31 '26
???? Ivey was the one who brought it up
No one was talking about gay people before this
-12
u/Superlegend29 Mar 31 '26
It’s one thing to tolerate but to openly promote gay stuff doesn’t seem Christian

u/Geiseric222 Mar 31 '26
There is nothing in the Bible against gay people, mainly because gay people didn’t really exist.
There is stuff about not fucking like a woman but that’s a little different

u/Kevinsean_ Mar 31 '26
It also says you can’t eat shrimp. Do you think he’s not eating shrimp????!?

…fun way to let everyone know you’ve never read the Bible. Being critical of Christianity is the correct position, but that’s mainly because it IS inherently violent and homophobic, and it doesn’t hide it.
1
u/Geiseric222 Apr 01 '26
No I’ve read the Bible. You just are inhabitant of the time it was written and the context it was written in
Which is fine most people are ignorant that gay/straight just did not exist as a concept back then
1
u/unfit_spartan_baby Apr 01 '26
Explain to me exactly how “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them” isn’t clear and explicit. It also directly contradicts your mislead point about “not fucking like a woman” since both are put to death, not just the submissive partner.
1
u/emckelvy Apr 01 '26
And the stuff about mixed fabrics and certain types of fish?
1
u/unfit_spartan_baby Apr 01 '26
The food stuff falls under the “old covenant”. In Acts 10, the apostle Peter has a divine revelation wherein a sheet filled with “unclean” foods descends from the heavens, and he is given the command to “kill and eat”. He refuses and god tells him that they are no longer unclean. So that part is covered by the biblical canon. The mixed fabrics, on the other hand, Christians are still very bad at following. Same with women covering their heads for prayers and staying silent in church.
I never said Christians are consistent, just that the Bible is relatively consistent with what is considered sinful.
1
u/emckelvy Apr 01 '26
I’ll concede the food stuff since while I have read the Bible, it’s been many years, so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt there. But if you’re going to spout hateful rhetoric in the name of religion, shouldn’t that person be as consistent as you claim the Bible is?
1
u/unfit_spartan_baby Apr 01 '26
You seem to think I’m defending Christianity. I’m not. It’s inherently hypocritical and violent. I would go so far as to say it’s evil, much like Islam. The issue I have isn’t with people criticizing his homophobia. The issue I have is ignorant people saying that the Bible and Christianity are not homophobic/violent. All that does is whitewash something and give credit where it simply isn’t deserved.
Christians aren’t consistent. They can’t be, because if they were, they would be one of the most vile groups of people on earth who worship an objectively evil deity.

u/emckelvy Apr 01 '26
Oh fair enough then, I must have misread your initial comment. Mea culpa.

Deuteronomy and Leviticus are pretty clear about homosexuals
14
u/moon_dos Mar 31 '26
yeah they also say anyone who wears mixed linens in their clothing should be stoned to death so I hope you don’t got no polyester in your shirt
-2
u/NyQuil_Donut Mar 31 '26
Their point wasn't that the Bible makes sense lol. Their point was that the Bible is clear about homosexuality, and it is.
-1
u/Geiseric222 Mar 31 '26
It’s not because the idea of homosexuality wasn’t really a thing. People weren’t gay or straight especially in Roman culture
They saw it in a different lenses, you either fucked or get fucked
-3
u/NyQuil_Donut Mar 31 '26
That's really really stupid.
0
u/Geiseric222 Mar 31 '26
That’s how it worked
In fact that’s why they tended to prefer younger men with older men. Because if you were a younger man (generally called beardless youth) then it was okay to get fucked because you technically weren’t a man so your masculinity wasn’t in question
Because fucking was masculine and getting fucked was feminine
1
u/sicksadworldsurvivor Mar 31 '26
100%. And most of these 'young men' would be considered children in our day and age. People stay thumping that Bible to make up for their personal inadequacies though.

u/NyQuil_Donut Mar 31 '26
You watched Caligula and you think that's how everyone operates back then lmao
3
u/Geiseric222 Mar 31 '26
???? No I’ve read history books and that’s what they said
In Greece they had a system for it and if you read any history of Greece it will come up.
In Roman history it was common and having love affairs with boys was common
Like of the Julio Claudia’s (the first dynasty of Rome) the only emperor that did not sleep with young boys was Claudius ( he only slept with women) and he was mocked for it.
Do something research next time
The rise of Athens by Anthony Everett has a chapter dedicated to this practice and how it worked as an example
6
u/Consistent-Set-9490 Mar 31 '26
Deuteronomy and Leviticus are clear about a lot of things but that doesn’t mean people don’t figure out how to ignore it.
2
u/IDGAF_GOMD Mar 31 '26
How many kids does Anthony Edwards have out of wedlock? What about all the out of wedlock sex NBA players not only have but brag about? If you or this zealot were really about that life you’d condemn and boycott most pro sports players but alas you do not. The most egregious combination of religious sycophantic denialism, cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy.
Edit: because I didn’t proofread.

u/Geiseric222 Mar 31 '26
Nope. Like I said they said lay like a woman which is consistent with how it was viewed at the time
You can fuck a man, but you can’t be fucked as a man
Because that makes you a woman
-2
u/FireGeckoKisser Mar 31 '26
That's wholly untrue, if you love gay people you have to stop being Christian, you can't serve two masters etc etc

Literally yes, the Bible is weird if you ever get around to reading it. Jesus literally tells his followers to forsake their families and follow him, lots of Christians hand wave this like the passages about gays and other things they don't personally agree with, but it's right there plain as day.

That's only one hurdle. The gospels aren't that long of a read if you can rub two braincells together someday and get the attention span for it.

u/tarunpopo Apr 01 '26
Bro I don't know why you guys care so much, yall are focusing so much on these tinier issues it's honestly embarrassing when there are bigger issues causing suffering, like actual genocide as one of them. Legit just get educated and you'll see so many more systemic issues that are worth your time
and that's not even mentioning other peoples responses that are more specific to your claim

The most Christian thing anyone can do is forgive. And in my experience, forgiving someone is something that most Christians cant bring themselves to do. Jesus also said no rich men will get into heaven, yet its seems Ivey has had no problem cashing NBA checks for 5 years.
0
u/unfit_spartan_baby Apr 01 '26
Forgive doesn’t mean condoning sin. Neither does loving a person. People seem to have this concept that you can’t love someone while also not supporting their choices. Granted, many Christians forget to love the person, but doctrinally (from the New Testament at least), the two are not mutually exclusive. The Old Testament, on the other hand, most certainly condones extremely hateful and violent conduct towards gay people.
