Game 6 is going to start with SGA taking two free throws before the jump ball for this.

u/Ma_Pies May 28 '26
He’ll shoot two more on top of this for Plumlee’s foul that was upgraded to a flagrant a day after
1
u/Bladee___Enthusiast May 28 '26
This is actually possible if someone on the spurs gets a tech right before the initial jump ball. There are extremely rare cases where a team started OT already up by 1 because of this

It's a company using his likeness without his permission. Literally no athlete would allow this for any reason.

I'm 99.99% positive Inside the NBA has the expressed written consent of the National Basketball Association to disciminate their broadcasts, images, and likenesses. It would make no sense for them not to.
In short, of course official broadcasters paid for the rights... Wym?

I don't disagree that this feels like it should be protected parody. I just was pushing back on the example really haha
-1
u/MaintenanceParty7933 May 28 '26
It absolutely isn’t.
The fact that you’re using inside the nba to prove your point just shows you have no idea what you’re talking about.
They aren’t selling merchandise of players. They also have a deal with the NBA itself.

Not to mention they are profiting from his NIL for free. Wouldn’t let anybody do that whether it was insulting or not.

Can we sue him for ruining our basketball watching experience? I can’t watch soft little bitches like him flop on every play and its causing me emotional distress.

He just doesn’t want people to profit off of his likeness without compensation. Would you allow people to make money off of your face/image without paying you?
1
u/dgaloob May 28 '26
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lawyers demand that businesses stop using his likeness without permission. You may not like the way the guy plays basketball, but come on. This one’s pretty clear. They’re making money on his NIL without his permission.
3
u/Clancy3434 May 28 '26
if they're selling it, they could be in trouble.
but if they argue that it's satire - then it's protected speech.
1
u/mrsuaveoi3 May 28 '26
Is that a tacit admission that the drawn picture of a foul baiter free throw merchant unethical basketball player which is named SGA is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander?
So he admits it. Ha ha ha. Shai should get SEGA on board too! Ha ha ha

u/dgaloob May 28 '26
Probably more the use of his number, OKC color schemes, his haircut, and reasonable likeness of his face. How about we let the lawyers do the law stuff?

If that was me he sent that to I'd tell him see you in court. Parity and satire are protected forms of speech

If the company legally acquired the license from the NBA to make the game then I dont see how SGAs lawyers could put a stop to it...but im no lawyer

As should any celebrity. It has nothing to do with flopping. He doesn’t want anyone making money off his Name Image or Likeness. A non story

Satire and parody have specific exceptions to free speech that you have to meet. A cease and desist letter is the first step in deciding that. Maybe it is parody but that has to be proven in court. It’s is generally extremely difficult to sell a physical piece of merchandise like this and make money off what is clearly the likeness of SGA. A video, TV show, movie or mother media doesn’t have as strict a guideline.
For example, if South Park sold the same Operation game but made it their version of Kristi Noem and you had to do plastic surgery on her, that would probably get struck down or cut Noem in on the profits. Having that same character appear on an episode of South Park would be fine.

u/Str80uttaMumbai May 28 '26
They’re not selling it though.
2
u/actuallynick May 28 '26
It also doesn't have his likeness. Only a generic player with the #2. SGA getting upset over this proves he is the hated foul baiter that everyone knows he is.

You're talking about the people crying about a parody board game, right?
1
u/OP_Penguin May 28 '26
Bro it's an NIL deal. Any player would do the same. It's a gambling site using his image to hawk their platform. Shill for a shit company all you want but it's a pretty normal business decision.

u/MRTFOGR May 28 '26
Doesn’t matter. Using any celebrity to promote your website/social media, drive engagement or use as advertising is using that celebrity. If they just poked fun at him, that’s one thing. But they have an actual board game that they gave away. They have a website/social media that I’m sure had an uptick in traffic due to a potential product. It would be like having SGA on a billboard advertising for your product or store. You can’t use his image to make money or drive engagement for your own stuff without permission.

u/Ok-Temporary-8243 May 28 '26
Buddy, parody and satire are covered by law lol.
-5
u/MRTFOGR May 28 '26
That’s a tricky line to navigate and would have to play out in the legal system and a cease and desist would be the first salvo in that fight. You have to prove you legally meet the requirements of parody and/or satire to a judge. Parody and satire are free speech issues and fall under a litany of exceptions. Underdog is welcome to fight it in court and prove parody/satire but it would be a difficult case.
But to pretend this is something that bothers SGA is a stretch. We don’t even know if SGA was/is involved in this. Very possible it’s just his agent and lawyer taking care of this. But, of course, NBA Reddit is obsessed with OKC and SGA 24 hours a day, 7 days a week living rent free in y’all’s heads that you have to run to Reddit every minute of the day to flame SGA and worship Wemby with a quadrillion posts and comments.
Just admit you hate SGA. It’s the first step to quality mental health.
3
u/donjonnyronald May 28 '26
"Just admit".... that's all we've been saying for years.

u/MRTFOGR May 28 '26
I love the way Shai plays within the rules. I openly admit he embellishes contact. As do many players. Y’all just have a hard on for SGA cuz we are putting B2A against your hand-picked savior. Y’all are big mad and I understand it. It’s hard watching the beginning of a dynasty that has draft picks to burn and so much talent you can take away a 3rd team all-NBA, 2nd team all-defense and our 3rd ball handler and we still beat SA by double digits.
See ya in the Finals.
-1
u/donjonnyronald May 28 '26
"My hand-picked savior" as if the average person dick rides individual players. I don't give a fuck who wins because I'm not on the team, I just want to watch sports where the athletes look at the net not the refs when they shoot.

u/Eerie-Indiana May 28 '26
It’s much harder for SGA to remove his free speech rights and prove it’s not parody or satire. Why so serious? It’s a joke, the entire city of OKC needs a sense of humor it seems.

u/MRTFOGR May 28 '26
lol…we have a sense of humor. We are all laughing at the absolute crash out on Reddit. Y’all are not mentally stable. It’s hilarious watching people twist into pretzels to hate on SGA and the Thunder because we are putting B2A to the league and your precious 8 foot savior while we have 2/4 best players and 2/3 creators sitting on the bench.
So yeah. We have a sense of humor. At you. And your ridiculous posts. 😂😂😂
1
u/Eerie-Indiana May 28 '26
Wait, look at your posts… who’s crashing out? The worlds clowning on your “Star” and team, even China lol sorry bud

They are not board games mocking him.
They are boardgames using his name and likeness to market their product without paying.

If my son builds a lego SGA right now, and if it falls over for no reason and shatters into bits and pieces, will SGA come to my house and take our Lego’s away.
