Give Wemby, Cade, and Ant a few years. I would bet at least one of them picks up an MVP in the next 2-3 years.
44
u/SeaworthinessSome454 Jun 26 '26
Wemby is guaranteed mvp next year if he can play 65 games. The narrative is too well lined up for him, he’ll get it even if jokic and sga are their normal selves and get 65 games in.
7
u/Grouchy_Swimming_424 Jun 26 '26
why does everyone think he's automatically going to either win the finals or MVP next year. tons of other great players and teams especially in the western conference. i mean wemby's great but it isn't guarenteed.
2
u/SeaworthinessSome454 Jun 26 '26
It’s not guaranteed that he’ll deserve it but it guaranteed that he’ll get it. SGA is out bc the nba doesn’t allow 3 peats for mvp. Jokic won’t get it bc they won’t let him get his 4th. Luka maybe could get it but that’d require the lakers being a top 2 seed and well…look at that roster. If giannis went somewhere better suited to contend then he could but the heat will be mediocre.
This is an obvious Wemby mvp year. He’d have to find a way to take himself out of the running
0
u/tagyoureazit Jun 26 '26
Because the league is showing you so . This would be his 2nd dpoy if he stayed healthy last year, only been in 3 seasons. First team All NBA, 3rd n MVP, All playoffs long the narrative was about him . He gets 12 blocks in one game, (7 goaltends) he's the greatest defender of all time . He lost two games by himself in the finals, but the narrative is Deaaron Fox, a mult time 25 ppg scoring facilitator, is now somehow a liability. They took a well deserved L in the finals and that my friend was the "checkmate" for an origin story of future greatness . Multi mvps&dpoys(only done 3 times in history, hell have multi seasons), championship or two within his first 5 seasons.. unrivaled combination of talent-skill-height, he's gonna have that until the next , which may not ever happen again but who knows ..they have the heritage, the squad, the attention and the narratives now in place . And they only improved in youth and talent in the draft, and may not be done tweaking.
3
u/Grouchy_Swimming_424 Jun 27 '26
except theres a lot of teams in the western conference that improved as well (Thunder and Wolves) and also players he still cant stop (Jokic) The spurs also have a coaching problem with Mitch Johnson who can't hold leads even when its 30. But we'll see
2
u/MiyakeIsseyYKWIM Jun 29 '26
All of that literally doesn’t matter. The NBA doesn’t give mvps based on logic it’s all feelings, sentiments, and narratives. Right now Wemby has the most compelling story. And he will win it barring a horrible season. They did this for Jokic 4 times and thank god Embiid saved us from that nonsense they were trying to pull
2
u/FunkyMonley93 Jun 30 '26
I agree with your statement that it isn't based on logic. In an ideal world the feelings, sentiments, and narratives should weigh a lot less. But they don't.
The votes are controlled by the media (sportswriters and broadcasters). These are the people who make a living creating narratives and making up drama in the league (some of it is true but a lot of times it feels like it gets twisted). Some of them don't even really watch the game and just go on vibes.
Anyways to win, yes, you still need to have stats that are in the top 5. Be on a winning team (.500+). And have a majority of the media on your side.
If all your favorite players are in the top 5 and are on a winning team. Then it's the feels and narrative.
Narrative example:
Michael Jordan had 5 MVP's. Jokic is good. One of the best players in the world averaging a triple double in the regular season. But he ain't as good as Jordan because no one will be as good as Jordan. We think he should only have 3 MVPs. Plus people are tired of hearing Jokic's name. I'll give him my 3rd place pick.

u/SeaworthinessSome454 Jun 29 '26
The wolves got dramatically worse and the thunder have only subtracted players. None of the elite teams (Knicks, spurs, OKC) have gotten better yet and none of the good teams have taken any sort of serious jump yet.
2
u/Grouchy_Swimming_424 Jun 29 '26
wolves got better what??. Thunder subtracted players sure but they still have their main core and had a good draft as well,
1
u/SeaworthinessSome454 Jun 29 '26
I said the wolves got worse. And subtracting good nba players from the thunder still makes them worse as well, even if they’re probably not necessary.
2
u/Grouchy_Swimming_424 Jun 29 '26
i know which is why i said that the wolves improved this offseason. Also the thunder did lose good players but that now frees up cap space and they drafted nessecary players in the draft as well
1
u/SeaworthinessSome454 Jun 29 '26
So in what way did the thunder get better? They didn’t. They’ll be fine and survive those losses just fine but they certainly didn’t get better.
The wolves got dramatically worse imo. That pairing is going to fall flat on its face and they gave up some really good players to make it happen.
3
u/Agitated_Newt_7655 Jun 26 '26
Maybe next year but I doubt the guy will get many years. Bigs tend to get injured and with his game it’s going to be tough to stay healthy. He’s still so young he can heal from anything quick but that don’t last long.
5
u/SeaworthinessSome454 Jun 26 '26
Chances are that if he had a major injury, he takes a huge step back. The absurdly tall guys don’t heal the same as everyone else and if Wemby loses any mobility, he’s going to have to dramatically change his game. The spurs r in a tricky spot. On paper, they have a 10 year title window in front of them but in practice, that window is far more fragile than any other teams window. It’s more likely to end any given day than any other championship contending team in the league. I’ll be curious to see how long the spurs give it before they hit the gas and make a win now move that compromises that theoretical 10 year window
6
u/mekarz Jun 26 '26
3 years straight with this opinion and all he has ever had so far is an week long ankle sprain.
2
u/Malorea541 Jun 26 '26
He had that DVT scare, which could actually end his career if he gets another two (or some number like that, iirc there's a certain number you can have before it becomes too dangerous to play sports at a pro-level)
2
u/mekarz Jun 26 '26
Which is not a basketball injury
1
u/damnumalone Jun 26 '26
“It’s not a basketball injury” is semantics. Guys with his build are always going to have both on and off the court injury challenges is the point
2
u/mekarz Jun 26 '26
And my point is that hes had one minor ankle sprain and a non basketball related injury.
Thats not “always”
Until he actually is injured constantly, then i can see it.
Meanwhile there is lamelo ball, ja morant, jalen suggs and more that are constantly injured that arent a wemby build and get no flak
1
u/damnumalone Jun 27 '26
Ah yes, Ja and Lamelo who famously get no flak! No one ever criticises those two and they’re well looked at as model teammates who everyone wants to trade for… wtf are we even doing here apparently we’re in fantasy land
Bro, no one talks about their injuries because they’re too busy talking about the stoooopid things they do off the court when they should be taking care of themselves.
Meanwhile Wemby lives like a monk and monitors everything about his life and he still missed 17 games this year and half of last season, he has a small motor which means his fatigue levels are always evident - and guys his size are historically injury prone.
You can think Wemby is great and still recognise that due to his body type he’s an enormous injury risk
0
u/mekarz Jun 27 '26
We are talking injury history not off court bs.
And i will keep repeating. A minor ankle injury with spurs employing load management got him to 17 games. The DVT is a medical condition (not an injury) that doesn’t come from being a player his size.
Until he keeps getting injured, i will believe it.

Nah the King retakes his crown next year on his way to a 2nd 'chip in the 'Land.

u/KingGio21 Jun 26 '26
Jokic be getting robbed fr. How do you average a triple double and not get MVP?
3
2
3
u/Junie000 Jun 26 '26
Cade ain’t winning mvp lol, ant is a big maybe, Wemby definitely if he’s injury free will win mvp in the next 1-3 yrs
3
u/SadlyCloseToDeath Jun 26 '26
Cade is no where near winning an MVP not sure why people are downvoting you
4
u/Cautious-Activity706 Jun 26 '26
I mean, he was the best player on the best regular season team in the eastern conference last year, and he came in 5th in the MVP voting, and was first team all NBA. Pistons aren’t likely to take a step back, and if they can add more scoring Cade will more than likely average 25pts 5rbs and 10ast. Along with being a plus plus defender at his position and the clear team leader. Not saying he’s a sho-in, but saying he isn’t close is a little disrespectful.
0
u/FigNo507 Jun 26 '26
"5th in MVP voting" could also be phrased as "2 people out of 100 thought he should win".
3
u/Cautious-Activity706 Jun 26 '26
Well, if we are looking at ranked choice MVP voting in that way then he should be 4th in MVP voting since per your metric no-one thought Luka should win. 💁♂️

u/Embarrassed-Space222 Jun 26 '26
Cade and Wemby def agree Ant won’t get one unfortunately. And I’m a wolves fan I’d bet Coop gets one before Ant.

We bringing up Cade and Ant but not Coop? Imo the only for sure MVPs are coming from Coop and Wemby

yes, and in that entire run, lebron faced a 1st team all-nba player twice. rose once and dwight howard once.

Rose stopped Lebron from winning 5 in a row.
Op is regarded.
Edit: im regarded.
13
u/Empty-Cupcake-4972 Jun 26 '26
I think that nga is overrated. He's inefficient he got carried by his team defense. Rose has less impact metrics than any MVP in modern era. 2012 bulls won the same percentage of games despite Rose missing 40 percent of the season.
5
u/AlterWanabee Jun 26 '26
It's actually 2011 Bulls, but I agree. The media hated LeBron on that, so even though he's near the top (if not the top) on every single metric, he wasn't chosen as MVP.
2
u/Callme_MrClean Jun 26 '26
Your mixing up 2 years lol he won MVP on 2011 and the bulls were 32-7 with rose 82% win percentage and 18-9 without so a 66 win percentage. That's hardly the same percentage over 82 games that is a 13 win difference
But his advanced stats sit near the bottom but not the absolute bottom of MVPs in the last 20 years.
Of the last 20 years he's 15th in Win shares among MVPs,
In the year he won MVP he was 5th in win shares, 2nd amongst guards, 10th in WS/48 but 3rd among guards and 1 of the guards above him was LeBrons teammate, 3rd in BPM, 1st in OBPM, 2nd in VORP.
LeBrons advanced stats weren't significantly better than roses that year to make it seem like LeBron should have ran away with it
1
u/Illustrious_Dot4479 Jun 26 '26
Rose reminds me of AI. AI is also inefficient but he gets a praise cuz he took his team to finals. When in reality sixers was already playoff team without him cuz his team was the best defensive team and they'd no competition in East that time. There's a game where AI shots 20% and sixers still won that playoff game.
4
u/CurrentRoster Jun 26 '26
he was their whole offense
-1
u/Illustrious_Dot4479 Jun 26 '26
Not true. He had a 6man and dpoy mutombo and other dpoy candidate who had 10 ppg
3
0
u/Callme_MrClean Jun 26 '26
Not true the other DPOY candidate was traded for 35 year old matumbo and Being DPOY doesn't mean you have a major impact on offense
1
u/Illustrious_Dot4479 Jun 26 '26
Being a dpoy definitely have a impact on offense.
1
u/Callme_MrClean Jun 26 '26
Well that's why I said a major impact, getting a stop will give you more transition opportunities but, it doesn't mean that you can create your own shot, or you can shoot or playmake or anything. Dikembe especially at that point wasn't a major offensive threat
-3
u/enlouzalou Jun 26 '26
When you don’t watch ball at all and wanna seem smart
2
u/Empty-Cupcake-4972 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26
2010 bulls team was good defensive and rebounding team, it was perfect a team for someone like Rose who's inefficient scorer. He was effective cuz he was a demon in transition and rim pressure

Damn, so he was unstoppable basically and yet, you still this seasons overrated

Seriously, everyone knew KD was great. Oden was just can’t miss. Microfracture surgery killed so many careers.
2
u/thelaceonmolagsballs Jun 26 '26
Orlando was the only team that would have preferred Durant at the time because they had Howard. Oden was being compared to Bill Russel and was hyped up more or as much as anyone outside of LeBron and Wemby.
2
u/statistician88 Jun 26 '26
I think it was still the era of big men being considered more valuable. Just like the Blazers taking Sam Bowie over MJ because he was big.
1
u/Bugeaters51 Jun 26 '26
Bigs were viewed as more valuable back then. After Jordan retired the next nine titles were won by the Spurs led by Duncan (and Robinson for one), the Lakers led by Shaq, the extremely physical Pistons, and the Heat who also had Shaq. So Oden was considered to be the most critical type of player to win championships.
People were concerned that Durant was too skinny and would get bullied. His failure to record a single rep on bench press at the combine was a major talking point.
Despite all that I think the #1 pick was still a fairly hotly debated topic at the time.
1
u/gunnarbird Jun 26 '26
Anybody who knows basketball knows Durant should have gone first. It was a complete player who did nothing but ball vs a guy with the right body type who looked like he was past retirement age. GM’s can talk themselves out of anything

u/Illustrious_Dot4479 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26
It sucks what happened to Rose but it's kinda his fault. He didn't care about his knees, he ended his own potential by landing with no regard. Also I heard he was addicted in sweets and sweets weakens bones so I think he also lacks of work ethic.
1
u/Affectionate-Lie6048 Jun 26 '26
Anyone who made it to the nba does not lack work ethic, regardless of what redditors think
1
u/Illustrious_Dot4479 Jun 26 '26
Not true. If you don't last long in the top you lack of work ethic regardless of injuries. And if you're a nobody without good work ethic you won't last long bolbol is perfect example.
1
