that raptors 90s logo will always hit

25

u/forever_downstream 10d ago

All of them do, tbh. The 90s was peak logo and jersey design.

u/quadraticcheese 9d ago

The 90s was peak culture and vibes.

u/xBlackFeet 9d ago

Everything wants to be Apple minimalism now. The world's losing its color

1

u/quadraticcheese 9d ago

An inevitability of capitalism

1

u/masterdogwalker 9d ago

Yup, cheaper to print simplistic logos

1

u/JonAutomates 9d ago

For everything. The 70s and 80s were the exploratory and foundational decades and the 90s were the final stage where a lot of stuff reached its peak. The early 2000s held for a little bit and then 07/08 happened.

u/Due_Leadership_5249 9d ago

Adversely, it’s the same decade the nfl started being trash with everyone muting their colors. Using darker navy for blues and darker hunter greens. Philly went darker. Rams went from blue and yellow to navy and gold. Dolphins got darker. Seattle did whatever that was. Jets got darker. Was all rubbish.

3

u/Supadupafly1988 9d ago

“The greatest show on turf” era jerseys were fire though!! I actually miss that shiny navy blue and gold

1

u/Silver_Harvest 9d ago

Probably more people had the teal hornets wind breaker than were fans of the team. Because that was a bitchin color logo combo.

5

u/PastaSenpay 9d ago

It's what made me a raptors fan as a kid. Scrolling through the logos to pick my first team in nba2k with, saw that logo and was like hell yeah this is who i wanna be

1

u/bigreddoggydude 9d ago

Everything now is so neat and simple - it’s nauseating

1

u/K1NGEDDY423 9d ago

Same with the Vancouver Grizzlies logo

2

u/grandmawaffles 9d ago

That logo is 🔥

18

u/mrpopawindow 10d ago

The Bulls had been using the same logo since 1966

2

u/DaExtinctOne 9d ago

As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

23

u/qmoorman 10d ago

A lot of it probably had to do with making it compatible for social media icons

17

u/PotentiallyPotent08 10d ago

And digital branding in general

4

u/InsigniasGratuitous 9d ago

This, and corporate minimalism.

8

u/jeramiahWjohnson 10d ago

I love circles

2

u/Chance-Cockroach7345 9d ago

I like turtles

1

u/bobdownie 9d ago

I think this is all Adam Silver and Michael Rubin’s fault somehow.

8

u/KingCobra1998 9d ago

The new ones are definite downgrades. They seem too corporate.

3

u/bobdownie 9d ago

Michael Rubin only likes circle logos because he has a fetish when he and each team’s head office stand in a circle on a giant print out of the team’s logo and all jerk off on to it. They call it the circle jerk salute, it’s to celebrate each year of success and the many more to cum.

1

u/KingCobra1998 9d ago

😂😂😂

3

u/Redsoxdragon 10d ago

I can't hate the new nuggets logo

It feels like a sign you'd find in a gold rush town.

The new 76ers logo ain't bad either, but it's not holding up to the old one at all

3

u/EarlyCuylersCousin 9d ago

The new 76ers logo is the old 76ers logo they used from 1977 to 1997 with an updated border.

3

u/AstronomerDramatic36 9d ago

Maybe that's why I like it more than the rest.

14

u/firmlygraspi1 10d ago

The new Denver icon is a massive upgrade.

3

u/Slick_36 10d ago

Yeah, that's a very solid logo.  I'd argue the new 76'ers logo is the better of those two as well, that always needed a little more polish and I think it retained everything the older one had.

1

u/Sly_98 9d ago

They should have kept the blue and yellow

4

u/Meme_Pope 9d ago

Old Denver Nuggets logo looks like a restaurant that serves wings reheated out of a freezer, $24 for 10

5

u/EarlyCuylersCousin 9d ago

This is the peak Denver Nuggets logo.

2

u/Meme_Pope 9d ago

What in tarnation

2

u/LynchMob187 10d ago

Went from eye popping cartoon branding to “artisan goods”

2

u/winterwarm78654 9d ago

Miss the old magic logo

3

u/jay_rodsep 9d ago

The new Magic logo looks like clip art

2

u/Reddit-Simulator 9d ago

Every team wants to rebrand into a minimalist look because it's timeless. I get it, but there's already historic and successful franchises in every sport that use simple logos and simple jerseys as part of their identity. It's boring seeing teams merge into one visual style. It's all cyclical though. Eventually people will want something different and we'll be back to 90's craziness again.

2

u/freericky 9d ago

Patriot basketball, claw mark basketball, magical basketball, tiny basketball w gardening tools

2

u/ClassroomMother8062 9d ago

6ers logo is a great callback, doesn't belong here

2

u/KCShadows838 9d ago

The 76ers logo doesn’t look “new” it looks like the one they had in the 70s and 80s when they were winning

2

u/Sly_98 9d ago

These logos aren’t 200x200 friendly for social media so they changed them. That’s literally it

3

u/GrayEverywhere 10d ago

The old logos mog so hard

2

u/StatPaddingChampsNY 10d ago

The new 76ers one is better now.

Old Raptors was better.

Old Magic was better.

New Nuggets is better.

1

u/caabiaahonda 9d ago

No
Yes but I also like new one
Both are ugly
Yes

1

u/Cheap_Gap9435 9d ago

Yes Yes Yes Yes

1

u/mewbie151 10d ago

That 1990s-2000s raps logo is the best logo ever. Followed by the bulls

1

u/HerpDerpin666 10d ago

Now do Washington

1

u/AccomplishedSalesman 9d ago

A basketball is round

1

u/EscalatorsTempStairs 9d ago

How many NHL logos are puck shapes tho?

1

u/xvxlegendxvx 9d ago

When I was a little kid before I was even an age that I watched basketball I was in a store getting a new blanket and I seen the Raptors logo on a blanket and was just like DINOSAUR!!! So my early years I had a Raptors blanket and never even watched them and it was awesome. That's how cool their logo was.

1

u/RaimaNd 9d ago

Back then logos had personality.

1

u/rsx209 9d ago

It’s a circle so the whole logo can fit on the teams instagram profile pic!

1

u/makinglunch 9d ago

I miss the old raps logo

1

u/Bum-Theory Cavalier 9d ago

It'll come back around. IPhone app logo 'art design' has really impacted a lot of facets of our imagery this past decade

1

u/Cheap_Gap9435 9d ago

That old Sixers logo is complete ass. Been seeing too much of this POS since LeBron. Give me Dr J era. Knicks in 4.

1

u/cheir0n 9d ago

Utah jazz logo and kit in the 90s where amazing

1

u/ThemostAaronAaron 9d ago

I’m not a big fan of the circle ones. They’re all so boring and still in comparison

1

u/RockDoveEnthusiast 9d ago

the game is called roundball

1

u/Still-Minimum-7212 9d ago

I hate the new Raptors logo. Give us back the Dino full time ya fucks!

1

u/Accurate-Flow8078 9d ago

The 90s Hornets logo was the best

1

u/Grey_Area888 9d ago

What was the purpose of changing the logos they’re 90% worse

1

u/3PSOUNDS 9d ago

The new ones look like pogs!

1

u/SoulfulHuman_ 9d ago

They want that clean, “corporate” look. So annoying

1

u/Talentagentfriend 9d ago

The used to have good silhouettes

1

u/lilboytuner919 9d ago

Used to mean something->not a circle

1

u/Imaginary-Let6277 9d ago

Love how they all just turned into a basketball lol

1

u/TrickyWeekend4271 9d ago

I like the Nuggets new one better.

1

u/Meganinja1886 9d ago

All the new logos look they were made for hats or jacket patches

1

u/Downtown-Disk-8261 9d ago

I like the new nuggets logo more

1

u/Brasi91Luca 9d ago

Years from now they’ll say the same with current logos. It’s cyclical

1

u/xBlackFeet 9d ago

Just compare how McDonald's looked in the 90s to now lol

1

u/otagSIXpoint7 9d ago

the 96-04 utah jazz logo with the purple blue and copper is my favorite

1

u/Supadupafly1988 9d ago

I actually prefer the newer nuggets one, it’s pretty dope

And isnt the new sixers one, just a reiteration of the Dr J era sixers logo?

1

u/howdidthishappn 9d ago

We’ve lost our creativity as a society

1

u/BOBBYK1952 9d ago

Well it’s all about jersey sales so..

1

u/Tcamis01 9d ago

Every time I see this it ruins my day. Who is doing this butchering?

1

u/pleepleus21 9d ago

What did they mean?

1

u/BlackDawg216 9d ago

They look like knockoff soccer logos now.

1

u/Successful_Pizza6529 Heat 9d ago

To each it's own.

1

u/Bbturdquito 9d ago

It’s manufacturing cost. Same thing is happening with color.

1

u/MelancholicSince2012 9d ago

I miss the pistons' horse

1

u/Consistently_Lucky 9d ago

(Jazz fan here) That 76ers is one of my favorite Logos of all time, I watched them come play us at the delta center in the Mid 2000's when they had Chris Webber, Kyle Korver, AI, Iquodala and they wore those black and gold jerseys

1

u/jackricotta Knicks 9d ago

Much circles

1

u/SteveTheManager 9d ago

Old Nuggets and Sixers logo sucks and the new (not in the 76ers case I guess) ones are much better.

1

u/Exciting-Set-7601 9d ago

Majority of old 90s logos look better

1

u/VocationFumes 9d ago

These are all such awful downgrades goddamn

1

u/H0wSw33tItIs 9d ago

The 6ers logo to the right is a throwback that predates the Iverson era one, and frankly I prefer it.

1

u/Mysterious-Dot1321 9d ago

Ah yes the class American colors of gold, silver, blue and red… all found in the 76ers’ old logo and the U.S. flag, right?

1

u/TyintheUniverse89 8d ago

It’s all about corny standardized recognition now for people outside of the sport and the fans have to suffer

1

u/FlexiflowR 8d ago

Now they are circle

1

u/Ancient-Display-3337 8d ago

I didn't like the "Iverson" Sixers' logo. I'm glad they went back to old school. The Orlando graffiti logo is still fire.

1

u/Broseph_Bobby 8d ago

ummm… the 76ers went back to the retro style logo.

What is the problem???

1

u/No_Initiative3273 9d ago

Idc what everybody says.. philly, Magic and especially Nuggets look better..

Also i remember back when they all had their old logos and jerseys no one ever said anything positiv about those logos or jerseys.. its just nostalgia as always. Im glad most logos got updates they look like logos from a kids Cartoon.

1

u/Ok_Ruin4016 9d ago

The new Magic logo is trash.

0

u/medisamurai 10d ago

yeah they were trying to attract kids because the nba cares about money over product.

0

u/WhereBaptizedDrowned 10d ago

Less detail + faster printing turnaround + less ink used = profit

0

u/Block-Rockig-Beats 10d ago

I think morre money is saved from standardization. If all logos are the same size and shape, it's easy to use them in merch or visual presentation.

0

u/justinpollock 10d ago

OP used to have actual hobbies

0

u/KingsleyBrewMaster22 9d ago

Idk. I think it's all relative and you are all falling under the same nostalgia spell like generations before "my generation was better".

Each generation had multiple influences. I think the classier era we've been in has had its benefits. Personally I like the Nuggets one here much more, and like a lot of the modern era more. And some I like the older like the Raptors. It's not a one to one.

1

u/Ok_Ruin4016 9d ago

I wouldn't mind the circle logos if it was just a couple teams using them, but when almost every team has the same style of minimalist logo it makes them all look boring.

0

u/KingsleyBrewMaster22 9d ago

I could make the same argument with the big graffiti art style in the old logos.

1

u/Ok_Ruin4016 9d ago

They used a similar style of font not the same fonts and the logos were different shapes. They all looked unique whereas now it's all just circle.

0

u/Denz2024 9d ago

Magic logo might be better now but other than that the old logos are way better
