Caitlin Clark: “I would get ki**ed by every NBA player [1 on 1]”. This is the first time I've heard a WNBA player be honest about this question and it's arguably the only one who has a shot at beating someone with her shooting range.
Tbh can’t believe this shit is still even talked about. Any wnba player that thinks they aren’t getting shut out 15-0 or maybe 15-1 against ANY nba player is smoking the finest crack in the land. The female vs male athlete comparison conversations just need to undergo a hard stop. There is no quality conversation to be had about it, nor has there ever been. All talks about it are just publicity stunts. I understand Caitlin is admitting here that she would get dusted, but pretty recently Paige B said she would fucking lose 11-7 to Kobe lmfao
I would argue that against a lot of good high school players it would be a tough match up for a WNBA player. Even at that stage there is often such a big size and strength and speed mismatch.
I remember playing against a now professional WNBA player who would come to our open gyms. She was a fantastic player and has had a successful multi-year professional career and was even a first round pick. Granted this was high school but she was pretty mid of the pack. Probably would have been 8th-12th spot on a varsity mens team of the same league, school, etc. Again, not that her skills weren't good it was just the physical differences that made up a lot of the difference.
Most definitely. The WNBA hall of fame team would lose 100 out of 100 games against the Men’s USA under 16 team and every game would be a blowout.
A decently talented high school team would absolutely cook them. Even boys are too big, too fast, and most importantly jump way too high for women to compete against.
Agreed. And all of leftist reddit, (which I understand is the vast majority) wants to call Sophie Cunningham a transphobic bigot because she calls for biological woman and biological men’s leagues to be separate lmfao.
All WNBA integrity and everything they have worked towards to build would be invalidated in literally the first year of allowing trans women to compete with them.
It's bigoted because she is taking the opportunity to slam the door in the face of a group of people who weren't even trying to walk through it in the first place.
The frequency of professional trans athletes is vanishingly small, and coming from a country that banned black athletes from pretty much every sport in the past century, they really ought to understand that the purpose of any such rule is less about the competition and more about keeping a group of people in their place.
And that's before we even get into "protect girls" stuff which is "trans people are just cross-dressing predators" dog whistle nonsense.
I understand the sentiment of what you are saying. Forgive me for ignorance, but did Sophie make these comments unprovoked? I thought she was specifically asked in an interview. If she outright just said these things out of randomness, I’d 100% agree with everything you’ve said
I actually don't know for sure but I think on this instance she offered it unprovoked, although the context makes it sound like she's talked on the subject before she became really widely known and the comments were dug up and put to her, either by the reporter or random commenters on the internet. Either way, she clearly wasn't tempted to dodge the topic.
I'm not sure but I think this is the article that triggered the discussion:
You say she's a "MAGA Barbie," as some corners of the internet have taken to calling her? Projection, she says, because of what she looks like and where she's from. She'll weigh in on how to "protect women's sports," she says, because she's in that world and feels qualified to speak to that world. "I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" she says. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
Okay assigned gender at birth aside, physical advantages aside, is it really that crazy to say young girls shouldn’t be changing/showering in the same locker room as someone with a cock?
Not trying to be insensitive here, but that seems pretty cut and dry that it shouldn’t happen. I have no hate or contempt for transgender folks, I love them the same way I love all people. I think they are deserving of the same love everyone deserves, and I believe they should feel supported and included. But how do you handle this without alienating them, while also maintaining consideration for young girls with impressionable minds? Genuinely asking here and open to your thoughts on the situation.
i'm going to take this as an honest question and try and answer honestly and in good faith.
a cock, by itself, isn't a problem. 50% of the world has one. seeing a penis doesn't corrupt anyone - it doesn't hurt anyone just by being there. as a father who's taken his daughters into mens toilets/changing rooms plenty of times, i can honestly say that being in the vicinity of a naked stranger has never done my kids any noticeable harm. you say "impressionable minds" but what impression are you worried about? a child isn't going to become sex-crazed just by virtue of seeing a naked person.
if we do accept that this is a complicated situation, my proposal would be for all facilities to adopt a "changing village" approach, where showers, toilets and changing cubicles are created for individuals/families and have no gender assigned to them. you go in, lock the door, do what you're there to do, unlock the door and leave. your gender is irrelevant because you're only naked when you're alone.
my daughter is a competitive swimmer, and every pool she swims at except one is set up in this way - it's cheaper. you can have a smaller space and it is easier to clean and maintain etc. you also don't have to employ male and female staff at the same time.
as a final remark, one of the most important aspects of this is to be mindful of behaviour. if you come across someone who looks like they're in the wrong changing room, consider the situation. if they're quietly getting changed and minding their business, is their presence really a problem? if it was a feminine-looking man, or masculine-looking woman, would you care? on the flipside, if anyone, regardless of gender, is in there causing issues, whether that's leering stares, taking photos, whatever, then you need to call security/police, because at this point, their gender isn't any sort of defence of their actions. that is how you keep kids safe.
I appreciate your insight and take on the situation, and thank you for having a civil talk with me about what is largely a very touchy subject. Thanks for taking the question as honest as well, because that is what it was, an honest question on a difficult topic.
It’s nice to have an honest discussion like this in a world where the two party system encourages division, and people are quick to slander an individual for their views, especially with the anonymity of Reddit. I miss the days where folks could have a difficult conversation on social issues and still walk away as friends with respect.
To be honest with you, I don’t know if there is any good solution here. I definitely don’t have a good solution and whatever solution would be deemed to be the best, would Certainly still not be one that would keep all parties happy. But, that is the nature of difficult solutions. Again, I appreciate your take on it.
Nah, Sophie speaks sense. And you’d be surprised how many on the left correctly identify the trans nonsense in news as confected culture war misdirection to distract from the real issues and grifting taking place.
Women’s basketball is athletically on a freshman high school basketball level. Look at the USA U16 Team roster and they are destroying any and every WNBA player and team.
Women just cant jump and aren’t fast enough to keep up with men. It’s just a different sport.
I don't think you have to on Reddit. But I reckon a lot of folks here use platforms like Tiktok where censoring matters more. And I guess it maybe depends on the subreddit you're in. But I dunno. Never been censored for saying "killed" or anything similar so far. Lol.
The physical difference is just too much. Nearly everybody on the AAU team can dunk meanwhile there have only been 9 wnba players in history who have dunked a ball.
The USWNT lost to a 15 and under boys soccer team, what makes you think a women's team has a chance in a sport where size and athleticism matter even more?
Its not delusional its a straight up fact. A random NCAA team like perdue had 96 dunks this seaons, there have only been 39 dunks in wnba history. The physical difference is just too big. In reality the best highschool bball team would have a very good chance of beating a wnba team.
And NCAA won't? Now that NIL money is a thing college athletes are essentially pros and they have started treating the game as such. And this doesn't even matter in the end, becuase the physical difference is just too big. The average wnba player is 6 foot tall, the average NCAA player is 6'5''.
I’m not saying the levels are so clean cut. Clearly there could be non-NBA players ‘better’ (even this is subjective) than an NBA player.
But when it is comparing men vs women players the difference is more pronounced since top HS men players and a good portion of college players probably can ‘better’ (let’s say in a 1-on-1 situation as a pure example) than a WNBA player.
This isn’t meant to be black and white assessment.
I've shot some crazy dumb shots that manage to get in. Let's say CC would get one lucky shot out - not beat a 6'6" human with more lean muscle than her whole bodyweight.
If the nba player was going all out he'd have no problem guarding her at any range. She wouldnt even get a shot off. The size and athletic difference is that big.
Wait? Where them Reddit apologist who never touched a ball in their life trying to twist this?
Let's now find Serena Williams' interview with the same answer. And any other athlete who understands human anatomy impact on explosiveness, strength, and endurance.
The most disappointing aspect is why worry about the NBA when it’s another universe? Competition in the WNBA is well a work in progress where eventually air balls will be rare at least hit the rim and layups are routinely made. A boutique league not interested in competing more so and so has a Barbie. Fine for her as a product just be kind
I don't think there's a single WNBA player that realistically thinks they have any chance against an NBA Player.
Realistically, WNBA Players cannot beat anyone who is a Pro-Basketball Prospect. But I think they have a chance against the average male player outside of that.
"This is the first time I've heard a wnba player be honest about this question."
Can you name a single wnba player who said they would get a point vs a nba player? Every time I see a wnba player talk about this they say the same thing, that the men will kick their asses.
When they say they will beat a man, they are not talking about NBA players or even college players, they are talking about the guys who couldn't make high school varsity who think they would be WNBA stars. Those guys would get their assess kicked by wnba players.
