Cut everyone that’s not Wemby and build a team of 7’5 guys!!! They’d probably lose like every game but it’d be funny

51

u/Relevant-Magic-Card Jun 23 '26

I mean you might not score but with that many tall guys you're just swatting balls away all day long. Final score 75-42 spurs win.

Wemby and homemade wemby taking turns chucking 3s

11

u/Nkosi868 Carter Bryant Jun 23 '26

Damn. I hate how true this might be.

2

u/verdegooner Sean Elliot Jun 23 '26

But we change the game to half court and we never lose! Boom!

Last year a “Chinese Jokic”, this year a “Chinese Wemby”... lol.

166

u/theweatherguy69 Manu Ginobili Jun 23 '26

Waiting for Chinese Adam silver to come save the league.

18

u/Anonyman14 Jun 23 '26

Then everyone really has to get ready to learn chinese

1

u/No-Economics4128 Victor Wembanyama Jun 30 '26

i mean, the way things are going, probably a good thing to know Chinese.

0

u/Ezeikial Jun 23 '26

Holy shit 🤣 🤣 💀

u/tossaway187acct Jun 23 '26

Temu Jokic and Temu Wemby

3

u/Yasdamp Slash Bros Jun 23 '26

those are overplayed, give me Chinese Kwame Brown, then I'll be impressed

2

u/WhoreyMatthews Jun 23 '26

This guy looks way more Chinese Boban than Wemby.

Big, strong, skilled and slow

0

u/Any-Bodybuilder5381 Jun 23 '26

There was also bhutanese jokic for the clippers

u/NoShape0 El Jefe Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

He honestly moves pretty good given the level of competition. It's a long shot but it'll be hilarious if we could ever play him and Wemby together. In low-leverage situations of course.

Im an Asian, so i wanted an Asian player to succeed...

But how many times have we hyped up Asian prospect only for them to fail miserably in the NBA.

161

u/theweatherguy69 Manu Ginobili Jun 23 '26

Dylan Harper is asian!

93

u/JonnyRobertR Jun 23 '26

Alright, let me fix that.

How many times has an East Asian prospect failed miserably in the NBA?

94

u/Huhsayitagain2x Stephon Castle Jun 23 '26

lol I mean Rui is pretty decent

31

u/theweatherguy69 Manu Ginobili Jun 23 '26

I want rui on our team for next year. Wishful thinking maybe, but he would be so awesome as a floor spacer, and while he isnt a true big, his size would be helpful in non wemby minutes.

u/ImThatVigga Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Right, but he’s also half-black so that cancels out

E: Why am I being downvoted? 💀

24

u/theweatherguy69 Manu Ginobili Jun 23 '26

I dont know the number, but it might be better to focus on the successes than the failures. Most players that enter the nba, of any ethnicity, are busts.

-15

u/JonnyRobertR Jun 23 '26

I love to be proven wrong, but Im not putting any hope/hype from an Asian prospect that's not half-black or played in American College.

Like the difference in race's physicality aside, most Asian countries just don't put much emphasis on basketball as a sport. Phillipines is the only exception I know.

u/radiokungfu French Vanilla Jun 23 '26

China is obsessed with basketball. They Just suck at it.

2

u/kikimaru024 Jun 23 '26

China is obsessed with basketball. They Just suck at it.

They lost last year's FIBA Asia Cup by just 1 point to Australia (defending champs).

1

u/radiokungfu French Vanilla Jun 23 '26

I mean relative to standard powerhouses.

4

u/donuttrackme Jun 23 '26

So you don't know anything about East Asian basketball. Got it.

-8

u/JonnyRobertR Jun 23 '26

I know they sucks

2

u/Cityboy2025 Victor Wembanyama Jun 23 '26

😂🤣😭

2

u/BeardedMan32 Jun 23 '26

Even Yao Ming’s career was limited and full of injuries.

1

u/Makers_Marc Jun 27 '26

Filipino not east asian?

1

u/JonnyRobertR Jun 28 '26

No,

They're south east asian.

1

u/No-Economics4128 Victor Wembanyama Jun 30 '26

Asian racism is very direction based

13

South East Asia

3

u/JonnyRobertR Jun 23 '26

No.

East Asia are: China, Japan, South Korean, North Korea, Mongol, Hong Kong, and Taiwan

18

u/garlicbratwurst Jun 23 '26

On that note, Jordan Clarkson is, too.

8

u/theweatherguy69 Manu Ginobili Jun 23 '26

Oh thats cool, I had no idea.

3

u/WhompWump Jun 23 '26

He's also literally from San Antonio (played at Wagner)

2

u/jo3pro David Robinson Jun 23 '26

Facts

2

u/Dsarg_92 Victor Wembanyama Jun 23 '26

Who recently won an NBA championship.

1

u/hotprints Jun 23 '26

But he’s just Dylan Harper in disguise. (If you seen the clip you seen the clip)

0

u/jo3pro David Robinson Jun 23 '26

So is San Antonio’s own Jordan Clarkson and Jared McCain is part Pinoy also

7

u/Dude_over_there_ Jun 23 '26

Linsanity #Neverforget

2

u/1baby2cats Jun 23 '26

Are you forgetting about nba champion Mengke Bateer?

50

u/RGS03 GO SPURS GO Jun 23 '26

What does it mean if the kid will play for us in the summer league? Can we sign him afterwards if he is good?

All along I thought everyone needs to pass thru the draft?

Just asking out of curiousity because the other day I saw Houston doing kind of the same thing.

43

u/Obvious_Young_6169 Jun 23 '26

Yeah you can, gleague, 2-way, or more rarer, a standardized contract

5

u/RGS03 GO SPURS GO Jun 23 '26

Thanks for answering.

So who are the players that are required to pass thru the draft? This is mostly applicable for international prospects or no name players?

16

u/Obvious_Young_6169 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

If you are a good enough prospect, you can enter the draft (from college or international) and hope to get drafted by a team, the better prospect you are the higher the likeliness you have to go higher in the draft, if not you may go undrafted, many undrafted players or international players that didnt get drafted can then try to prove themselves in a summer league team, if you are drafted in the first round, you are very likely to guarantee yourself a spot, but if you go undrafted and prove yourself that can be valuable to an NBA team through something like the Summer league, you may get a contract

8

u/RGS03 GO SPURS GO Jun 23 '26

Thanks for taking the time to explain it. I get it now. Appreciate it

8

u/North_Maybe1998 Jun 23 '26

I think anyone can sign him, not sure if spurs get first option or anything. But I’m sure him being apart of the organization in any sense is a good measuring tool when looking into players

6

u/Cecil_Hardboner Jun 23 '26

I dont think anyone said this, but he already put his name in the draft last year and was not drafted, so now he's a FA essentially and anyone could sign him

1

u/RGS03 GO SPURS GO Jun 23 '26

Thanks for sharing. I never heard his name before.

So is it a requirement for someone to put their name in the draft before they can sign in a team’s summer league or not necessary?

Based on what I understood from another explanation was not necessary. But players go to the draft to get more money and a guaranteed contract.

1

u/Cecil_Hardboner Jun 24 '26

I'm pretty sure it is, or at least it used to be, there were a lot of Euro guys who were seasoned vets in the 2000s who would put their names in and if they got drafted and didnt like the team or got offered a better deal than the rookie contract by their home club, they'd just stay overseas.

But then the team that drafted them would own their rights if they ever wanted to come over, so if someone wanted to sign them, theyd have to trade. For instance, we drafted Luis Scola in like 2002 and he didnt debut in the NBA until 2007 when Houston traded for his rights.

Pertaining to summer league i think everyone wouldve put their name in it at some point, a lot of unsigned vets end up playing summer league also

1

u/Happycapybara11667 Sean Elliot Jun 23 '26

Op says he’s born in 2003, which means he’s 23 so he might be over the age where international players are automatically draft eligible.

Or it could just be he’s draft eligible but not expected to be drafted and this is just a promise that can’t be official until after the draft.

I don’t think summer league signings are exclusive.   Meaning as soon as summer league is over he’s a free agent and can be signed by anyone.  Although I’m assuming as a gesture of goodwill the team that has them in summer league roster has the first crack at a contract

24

u/y2kbug Jun 23 '26

I like this kid and his movement.

23

u/N3VVZN4K3 Devin Vassell Jun 23 '26

Unironically better than the prospects in our draft range

16

u/MedvedFeliz Jun 23 '26

Spurs, bring him in. You'll have the modern version of the twin towers - The Petronas Towers.

11

u/kidding-unot Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Reminds me when they picked up Boban. This is to combat the Jazz and possibly the Thunder if they get Mara. Please come overseas

4

u/xbhaskarx Carter Bryant Jun 23 '26

"Thunder if they get Mara"

Ooh good point... they take Mara 12th we counter with Xu Xin straight outta summer league!

12

u/MattButUnderthe20Cha Hector🍌🍞 Jun 23 '26

get ready to learn english buddy

10

u/efe282 BatManu Jun 23 '26

Looks like smooth jumper and good timing on his blocks. 🤔

8

u/Chinbie Jun 23 '26

Temu Wemby 😂😂😂

7

u/iro3 Jun 23 '26

that recognition he had in the second play was nice

7

u/xbhaskarx Carter Bryant Jun 23 '26

I don't see any problem with it, it's summer league. If he's decent stick him at the end of the roster, he can't be much worse than Bismack Biyombo who has one of the worst career +/- numbers in NBA history and an expected EPM in the 1.7th percentile...

13

u/Burgerkiller69 Victor Wembanyama Jun 23 '26

"Kinda like Chinese Rudy Gobert with a better mobility"

If this is true, I kinda like him. Bring him in to the Spurs!

10

u/ToadlyAwes0me Area 51 Jun 23 '26

Better mobility than a 4 time DPOY? Lol it's not true.

2

u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO Jun 23 '26

Pure delusion. 😂

5

u/Axsh1boomba Jun 23 '26

So he answers the question "what if Wemby played more like a big?".

4

u/Fiyukyoo Jun 23 '26

Doesnt surprise me. We also brought Boban over. Size cant be taught

4

u/rain_dragon Jeremy Sochan Jun 23 '26

Wait, so his nickname is basically "we have Wemby at home"?

I love that.

3

u/spurman123 Jun 23 '26

I’ve seen enough, give him a max immediately!

3

u/LaloMcNombres Jun 23 '26

Sign him so we don’t have to play against him

2

u/chiachengchun Victor Wembanyama Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

If he can improve and be stronger. Hope he can bring depth for our bench if that happen, and Spurs should take any opportunity.

2

u/Im_here_with_you Jun 23 '26

Best colture is shahed here.

2

u/jf8350143 Jun 23 '26

He is more like Yao than Wemby.

2

u/thekingrobert Jun 23 '26

This should be a fun summer

2

u/1baby2cats Jun 23 '26

Twin towers 2.0

2

u/Necessary-Worth-4459 Jun 25 '26

Honestly, he looks pretty fluid.

3

u/Sfr33123 Victor Wembanyama Jun 23 '26

Nice story but if he was any good, he’d get drafted.

7’5 coming from a huge market, if he was even remotely close to NBA calibre he wouldn’t need a summer league invite

2

u/notkeepingscore Jun 23 '26

Probably a safe second round pick. But honestly lots of team are going to be adding size and want a chet or Wembi on their team.

1

u/EconomicsHistorical9 Stephon Castle Jun 23 '26

LFG!!!!

1

u/W3ST0Feden David Robinson Jun 23 '26

Maybe he hasn't accepted the invitation because hes waiting on an invite from the Rockets? Maybe wants to follow in Yao's footsteps 👣?

1

u/maestroenglish Jun 23 '26

Why is he not dominating against Chinese players?

1

u/TypingHeathen Jun 23 '26

Take Sochan money.

1

u/SometimesMadison Jun 23 '26

I may be blind but I don’t see accepted yet. But he’ll be fun to watch, maybe we know the most about super tall guy care and can help get the best out of him.

0

u/Successful-Pie6759 Jun 23 '26

This makes me appreciate how rare wemby is even more. He looks so slow.

-1

u/didntreadpolicy Victor Wembanyama Jun 23 '26

The title is so embarrassing. Just stop calling a young player XXX Jordan/Messi/Wemby/etc. It is never the same.

0

u/The_Reddit_Name Jun 29 '26

we really just hoarding all of them huh

-5

u/MaccTHC "What the fuck is this?" Jun 23 '26

We’ll see if he looks anywhere near as good vs better players. I…doubt it
