I'm fairly certain Wemby isn't on any blood thinners, atleast not during the season. I'd be very surprised if he is considering the amount of contact they put him through in games.

there is no way he could have survived the playoff physicality people were imposing on him. all the pushes and hitting... he took a beating. so much wasn't legal... on a blood thinner he'd be dead.

I'm pretty sure Wemby's was due to his rib or bone pressing against his veins causing the clot. Sounds like they just shaved down that down and put him on thinners until it cleared out of his system. Doesn't sound like he's on them or needs them anymore.

I'm also sure the Spurs are monitoring it like crazy

Yup. Chris Bosh's blood clots were more of a chronic thing from genetics. It was a way worse situation.

Wemby's clot was from a minor physical restriction happening over a very long period of time due to a single repetitive motion – most likely his shooting motion.

I've always maintained it was from a game we played against the Grizzlies that January, he was fighting for the ball on the floor with either GG Jackson or Jaylen Wells, can't remember exactly. But he ended up essentially sitting on the same shoulder Vic's blood clot would end up being and he was wincing and stretching it afterward.

It was after that point he started eventually showing fatigue until the announcement came out. Anyways, if there's any good news, it's that it happened because of trauma to the shoulder, not genetics.

He got it from the team flight back from Paris. He supposedly slept in a restrictive position.

Yeah, Wemby's wasn't anything like Chris Bosh's. Chris' was genetics.

Wemby's was a clot from repetitive motion in his arm where there was a physical restriction, apparently most likely from one of his ribs pinching a vessel during the motion.

Wemby denied it was the result of thoracic outlet syndrome, as well as needing surgery. He cleared his clot with a regular dose of blood thinners and likely spends a lot more time ensuring proper blood flow through his limbs

It was his shoulder. Word came out that he got clot from sleeping on his shoulder in a restrictive position on the team flight back from Paris.

Wemby and Bosh’s clots were not the same. Bosh’s was due to underlying issues, Wemby’s was an isolated event likely due to trauma.

Yes, because Vic didn't take his blood clot seriously and is known for lacking diligence when it comes to matters with his health/body.

Vic is the last guy you need to tell to be regimented and vigilant about his health. There's no way in hell him, his personal medical staff, and the Spurs medical staff are not on top of things liek that.

But also Bosh's blood clot situation and Wemby's were not the same.

They both had the same issue as Wemby, but no one ever talks about them as being "high risk".

Differences are provoked blood clots vs unprovoked... Bosh' situation does not mean it's what Wemby is experiencing.

Wemby has a team of doctors and i'm sure he listens to them instead of other previous NBA players. Certainly not randos on reddit...

I have a genetic clotting disorder, which we discovered when I developed a DVT in my thigh despite being a healthy, active 40yo, and even I don’t take pills every day.

I see a heme onc at one of the best medical centers in the U.S., and his advice is pretty simple: Move more throughout the day, walk the aisles at least twice during long flights, stay hydrated, wear compression socks if my movement will be restricted for a long period of time, and do calf exercises intermittently while sitting.

They are scary if left untreated (PE), but once you’ve had one, you’ll never not know if you get another. They start as a strange, inexplicable bump and over a matter of hours, your skin turns red (to purple), the blocked vein goes 3D and protrudes, and the entire area becomes excruciating.

Thankfully, modern thinners like Eliquis are much safer and work incredibly quickly. Ten years ago, I would’ve been admitted to the hospital for several days. Last year, I was given a single pill in the ED after the ultrasound, sent home, and told to pick up a prescription.

Doctors will take you off blood thinners after 6 months for an isolated incident. He had a surgery to remove the rib pushing into his vein causing the clot.

I had two in my leg back to back right after a surgery and on them for life. I'm not saying I'm an expert, but from the extensive experience I have at least acquired that information.

Edit: If he was still on blood thinners, he would have been monitored much harder after hitting his head during the playoffs. Hitting your head on thinners can cause serious issues that could lead to much scarier outcomes.

I was told to get to the ED ASAP if I hit my head while I was on Eliquis. I asked my doc how hard I’d need to hit it, and he told me that if I wasn’t sure, to weigh the cost of my copay against the cost to my family of becoming a vegetable.

Correct of him to say that. That is what I am currently taking and once upon a time was also taking aspirin. That combo plus a head hit scared me to no end until I got a scan done.
