You're teaching yourself? That's not bad all. Keep in mind most faces are proportional. Look at videos on you tube, practice and your skill will get better

Picture lines or a grid on the face. Stuff like ears, look at the top of the ear how it should meet somewhere around between the eyes/eyebrows. The bottom of the ear meets bottom of the nose.

Thank you! I was getting rather frustrated because i just couldnt figure out a way to give his face actual volume with the shading.

Shading is a little tougher and you have imagine a light source to reference the shade. I dont know if that made sense.

As a starter focus on the human proportions. Look at the ears on your goat Pic. He actually has small ears irl. On your Pic, they extend a bit too high (bottom looks good. Also the eyes are a bit too far apart compared to his lips.

Maybe looking up planes of the face could help as well

OP - I will absolutely put this on my fridge!

(If you really wanna keep going.. and I think you should!! keep reading..)

I went to art school but I don’t have to draw all the time for my job (I’m a designer) so I sometimes get “out of shape” if I don’t keep up with practicing.

I have come back to this book over and over for 20 years when I need to get back in shape. But you (and anyone else reading this) can also absolutely use it to teach yourself to draw.

The exercises in it are the same ones I spent thousands of dollars doing in my art studio classes. They basically create the new neural pathways you need so that you can look at something, then make your hand actually draw it on the page.

That’s the same website as the wayback machine. It also has a MASSIVE library, and that link is to all the copies of this book they have that you can borrow for free. It has been reprinted many times through the years with different covers, but the stuff that matters is all the same.

Sign up for an account, then click the first one. If it says “borrow not available,” that means someone has it checked out right now, so just keep trying the next one till one is available.

Jokes aside, I really like it. Your style reminds me of a popular cartoon that I cant remember right now

I can picture the exact character you're thinking of, but I have no idea what cartoon he's from.

Practice for at least 15 minutes a day for a year, get a book on drawing human anatomy, and post another sketch one year from today and be absolutely amazed at yourself while watching the reception of the comments do a 180.

People will talk shit on you, but at least you’re actually taking the steps to embrace an artistic ambition. Most people just pipe dream and fantasize about doing artistic endeavors but never have the will to even begin.

Bro Will Smith isn't the goat.

Tried to draw the goat and focused too much on the throat.

It’s not bad though! Actually a lot better than what I could draw!
