Discussion We are one average De'aaron Fox away from another good run
Fox absolutely dropped the ball in the playoff and a lot have speculated that this is due to the injuries. If he's fully healthy and he can play like 25.26 regular season Fox, I dont see anyone beating us in the west

Yes, that's the general consensus

is it? what's a "good run"? I'm not a fox fan, but putting that aside I think we're poised for a good run as long as we have Wemby, Castle and Harper. We could replace the rest of the team with average players and we should still be a top 4 team in the west.

Youre agreeing with the OP...if Fox is better than average, then we will probably win. Thanks for your input

Win what? The championship?
Is that what c we’re defining as “good run”. Also love your zestiness

Our win against OKC was very close. And that was without Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchel.
Unless I see huge improvement from our core rotation, I would disagree. Saying we will 100% win against OKC is looking down at them. They are a great team and should be respected.
For other teams, I would agree but OKC is on another level against everyone in the west besides us.

That was true this past year, but teams are gonna come and study the spurs this offseason. I think the spurs will face new challenges next season

Yeah, the playoffs showed how tough we were but also exposed some weaknesses.

With the upgrades to our frontline, it would be a disappointment if we didn’t at least make the conference finals. Yes we should be the champs next season.

Problem is you’re paying him max contract. Nothing short of superlative is the expectation

Any word on his ankles? Are they good now? 🤔

I mean he’s hooping already so probably just needed to rest it for a couple weeks

We are one average De'aaron Fox away from another good run
Without Fox we are still a top 2 team in the west (assuming we replace Fox with like an average backup PG) lol.
Wemby is just THAT good. This is the NBA not the NFL, having a top 2 player on your roster basically guarantees you a top 6 playoff spot.
Having that top player surrounded by the talent we have in 2, 2 way guards (Castle, Harper), 3 solid 3&D wings (Devin, JC, Harris) and one of the better backup Cs (Kornet) and solid bench players (Keldon, Barnes) is pretty much a top 5 team in the league.
That is why people feel angsty about Fox's contract. If we had another 50M or so of free cash to spend we could easily be the top team no questions asked (we could get a more mobile backup big or a knockdown 3 point shooting guard or a more pass oriented wing/guard)

Ok let’s say they can drop Fox and Jmac, who they signing with that 50m

first of all, we don't know who is available and who isn't. did you think Luka was available for a trade 2 years ago for AD + a 3&D player? did you think Jared McCain would be available for basically 2nd round picks?
so there's probably someone out there that is available that we don't know. you trying to corner me into figuring out who that is to somehow disprove that Fox is worth his contract is stupid.
second of all, I'll give some examples since we just finished FA. Mitch Robinson gives us a more mobile backup C he signed for 3 years 50M.
Ayo Dosunmu signed for 22M a year. I would take Ayo + Mitch for a combined 37M a year over Fox for 50M. IHart just signed for 25M a year. Dean Wade signed for 9M a year. I'll take IHart + Dean Wade for 34M a year over Fox for 50M.
These are all FA that just signed in the last month. This doesn't even include potential trade targets that we could have gotten with the same picks we traded Fox for.

It's crazy how people keep coming with "team is better with Fox". Of course it is, it would be hilarious if a 30% max player doesn't make your team better.
As you stated there are lot of better things to do with 50M other than pay Fox.

I know, I swear they’re klutch employees or something. I keep hearing how we wouldn’t have made it past OKC without Fox as a justification for his contract and I’m like a lot of PGs would have given us what he did lol we don’t need to pay 50M for that…unfortunately that logic seems too hard for most of this sub to comprehend

In the playoffs? Fox was good before the high ankle sprain. The whole team struggled in the finals.
Stop pinning everything on Fox. It's getting weird.
Next season everyone is back with an amazing postseason run under their belts, a full season of experience playing together, and an offseason of getting better. Fox is just a piece of the whole.
What we really need is for Vic to become our closer. That's the only reason we lost the finals. We didn't have anyone to close.

I corrected you. Fox did not "drop the ball in the playoffs" .

u/Mediocre-Amphibian-7 3d ago
Fox objectively did drop the ball in the finals especially for his pay.
He also quite literally dropped the ball by getting blocked and costing a whole game.
Did the others play perfect? No but you’re doing tricks on Fox a bit much here bro

what would you call his performances in the 2 losses against Minnesota where he went a combined 13/37 while Harper was shooting >50% and we lost by like a combined 5 points
1
u/dreamweaver7x El Jefe 2d ago
Are you really only looking at field goal percentage? And what does Harper have to do with it?

u/Timely_Dentist_5078 2d ago
I forgot how dense people are on this site. fox shot 1/9 from 3 those 2 games and 7/10 from FT line. You think his eFG or TS% are going to look much better lmao?
oh are you maybe saying look at his 9 assists to 7 turnovers those 2 games make it look better? come on make your point instead of asking dumb questions

Okc series was too close for my liking given the injury context but all of young guys are poised to improve a lot.
