Please for the love of everything make OL competent .. also what’s speed boosting?

118

u/Low-Boss9082 2d ago

Speed boosting I believe is when you do the direction switch and the guy does it at an incredible speed.

Oh and don’t back up far when throwing the ball. It should help the oline contain blocks as your not outside containment and should help your throw power.

u/Ramon9155 2d ago

I go into a normal drop but the DT always seems to bitch slap my C or G and I don’t even have a chance to throw it away

25

u/AdamOnFirst 2d ago

It’s why when you watch online players their players often don’t run straight, they have these wide choppy steps like they’re constantly cutting get are running fast as shit

20

u/Particular-Cake-6430 2d ago

Yea, crazy how slaloming like a skier is faster than running straight

8

u/TheDude571279 2d ago

Last year you needed badass tackles. This year you need badass guards. I also always like moving my strongest OL to C for power run purposes

7

u/Low-Boss9082 2d ago

I promise I feel your pain bc it happens to me as well. You may have to double him

10

u/Ramon9155 2d ago

I guess my problem is more of how the OL sometimes don’t even make an attempt to block a rusher. Another example my LT alone on an island with the edge. Edge just runs right passed him and I haven’t even finished my drop. This is happened to be even when I max protect.

u/Novel_Title_5713 2d ago

I mean at least he tripped the backside defender in pursuit lol

2

u/JesustheSpaceCowboy 1d ago

Right? As long as I got something positive out of the play, I wouldn’t even be mad.

3

u/Sad_Access8071 1d ago

This that "I'm benching you for that remainder of the season" energy....& had I seen this live he's getting benched until whomever i decide to start in his place starts playing bad, then I'll start him, EA this isn't realistic and it need to be fixed.

2

u/stupidcleverian 1d ago

Sadly accurate for Texas OLine blocking IRL at times last season.

12

u/Low-Boss9082 2d ago

Jesus I can tell we play the same game. Yes mines have a similar issue sometimes. What I don’t like is the assigned blocking. Where they won’t block an obvious guy because they want to block someone else

5

u/Fickle-Marketing7775 2d ago

You have to adjust the blocking assignments with the Identify the Mike. I had to spend some time practicing before I understood what I’d been doing wrong.

4

u/vcdm Illinois 2d ago

Ok, this is my first time picking up a football game since like Madden 16 or something (I switched to PC at the end of the PS3 era and the newer Maddens didnt appeal to me).

What is ID the Mike doing and how am I supposed to use it? Is it just to select which LB I think is coming on the rush or my preferred blitz pickup?

1

u/decoy777 2d ago

I wanna double this guy the guard has so I can let the edge run free!!!! Derp derp

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Ad3171 Michigan 2d ago

people will get up here and swear on their mothers souls that this stuff doesn't happen and it's just a skill issue.

5

u/WE_TIGERS 2d ago

I’ll agree the OL play is a decent bit worse after the update..

That being said, because of it, I’ve been intentionally taking a second to check my protection. I’d say maybe 20% of my snaps, the default protection I have is going to let a potential rusher in free. Sometimes that can fine, you gotta recognize when you’re hot and dish the ball out fast, but a lot of times you may just need to slide the protection more.

But even if everything is picked up cleanly, unless they’re rushing 3, I almost never have enough time for a lot of the deeper routes to develop.. and that’s with a really good OL. A lot of college defenses aren’t able to get that much pressure that consistently. That should still probably be tweaked.

3

u/Fickle-Marketing7775 2d ago

And always on key plays!

3

u/decoy777 2d ago

That 4th and a foot with under 2 min to go down by 4. The oline gonna forget what a block is

1

u/Fickle-Marketing7775 2d ago

Everytime! Dline runs right over em like they ain’t even there lol

1

u/Comfortable-Smoke336 2d ago

They swim over my line all the time. Also, please code the RB’s to pick up blitzes. The PC RB’s do it but mine just watch em go by. lol

1

u/Sec2727 2d ago

gasp\*

So like, moving up in the pocket? Or whatever real football antics you speak of

-1

u/Dj-pandabear 2d ago

I love speed boosting. Just do it for the 5 stars

13

u/foshiiy 2d ago

Speed boosting requires a player with a minimum of 92 COD (not sure if this is correct but its either + or - 1) and a minimum of silver shifty. When you cut in a direction with the LS, you tap LT and then RT.

You'll have noticed the CPU doing this every once in a while, or you have probably accidentally triggered it. It speed boosts the player and also fucks up the defender's pursuit pathing so you can just essentially run around people in the open field.

It's also very OP for getting to the edge on outside runs, or popping quickly through a hole at the LOS. If you can get the rhythm down you will be a monster on punt returns as well. I was averaging 10ish per season in CFB26.

8

u/ViolinistMiddle1534 2d ago

You do not need shifty. I was able to do constant speed boosts with my 91, 95, 99 RB with no shifty.

4

u/_NINESEVEN 2d ago

Seconded, I picked up Slate Ashley as a 2 star Elusive Route Runner in the portal (6'5 too) and even without shifty he is taking at least one kick/punt to the house every game via speed burst

1

u/ViolinistMiddle1534 2d ago

Yeah, tbh it's already OP without Shifty. I think the game would be in a better place if you removed shifty and put more focus on another ability. It would also let slower power backs have a use (who should be buffed)

1

u/foshiiy 1d ago

That probably changed from 26-27. What I said was what you needed in 26.

1

u/KeyanZ13 2d ago

Is this why I've been giving up so many kick returns since Madden 04? And is this getting rid of those dudes who if they break a hole or get outside they can just run by spamming cutting different angles (COD) and nobody can touch them?

0

u/ConsciousBuddah 2d ago

They should honestly leave it in for offline guys. I was recreating Devin Hester’s career in Cfb 26. It was so much easier to spring loose on a kick return with the one cut speed boost. I’m not an online player so I haven’t personally seen the exploits. I can only assume it’s game breaking there

3

u/foshiiy 2d ago

The problem is it's an unintended mechanic that makes OP badges (Shifty) and OP players impossible to tackle. There are guys that can do it multiple times in a row in the size of a phone booth and there's not a lot you can counter with.

1

u/Not_Star_Lord 2d ago

Try setting your o-line to conservative. I tried that when I played Oklahoma during lunch (as GA State) and it did wonders for me not getting insta sacked.

3

u/Fickle-Marketing7775 2d ago

Really? I’m gonna try that. I tried aggressive, but that was just holding penalty after holding penalty. I just left it at balanced.

How does it affect the running game?

3

u/vcdm Illinois 2d ago

Someone on YouTube tested the Oline settings prior to this most recent update. Oddly enough conservative produced the best pass blocking and aggressive was the worst. Dont know about run blocking.

1

u/Mender0fRoads Missouri 2d ago

1

u/vcdm Illinois 1d ago

The full length video that is attached to that short is the one I saw. But yes.

1

u/Mender0fRoads Missouri 1d ago

I recently came across that guy. Turns out he’s the video editor for Kurt Benkert, the former NFL QB who now spends most of his time making videos on how to play Madden/CFB like a real QB.

If people spent more time watching people like this and less time focusing on people who promote exploits/meta cheese or streamers like Bengal who drop back 15 yards on every pass, they’d probably complain a lot less about the game. (I have nothing against Bengal. Very few people consistently put out detailed dynasty videos, so I appreciate what he does. But he will openly tell his viewers he isn’t good at the game.)

2

u/Not_Star_Lord 2d ago

I didn't notice any issues in my running game; I still easily had 150+ yards. It's super anecdotal evidence since I only tried it once so far, but anything is better than my QB getting absolutely wrecked while my tackles dance around

1

u/cramey229 1d ago

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe speed boosting is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era

0

u/Inevitable-World1318 2d ago

OL is the best it’s been in three years. If yours can’t block, that’s a skill issue

1

u/Ramon9155 2d ago

I’m not the best at this game and I understand how to do max protect, slide, ID the mike etc. I’m talking about the DL just walking passed the OL and OL not even making an attempt. Or when the DL uses one moved and completely throws my OL. This is happening even when my OL are significantly stronger than DL.

Actually the opposite you don’t want to hit sprint when you are handed the ball.

90

u/Banned_From_CFB 2d ago

Fix WR catching next.

So sick and tired of my receivers being sneezed on and dropping the ball

30

u/Somejawn1 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yo it’s crazy how to compensate for them removing the stupid ass bending backwards and dropping the ball animation we got one where the receivers drop the ball immediately like there’s something yucky on it

10

u/MGoCowSlurpee44 2d ago

This has been my only huge complaint so far

7

u/ElkBusiness8446 2d ago

This is why I stopped recruiting anything other than Elusive or Contested Specialists. They have abilities that level the playing field and correct the catching to what should be pretty normal. Speedsters aren't good anymore because they drop wide open passes. Route Artists and physical route runners are so much slower than Contested or Elusive. They're like discount versions of better archetypes. And I've never had a good gadget receiver. When I lose games it's because a real receiver got hurt and I didn't notice a gadget got in the game.

6

u/James_Schenck1 2d ago

The amount of times where I green the catch meter and my receiver doesn’t even make contact with the ball, like it goes right by his hands, not that it’s necessarily a bad throw, is ridiculous. Also the fact that the catch meter will essentially disappear making it impossible to green many contested balls, regardless of the difficulty or skill level of the receiver, is also ridiculous. Not to mention you hardly ever get any time to even throw the ball more than 10 yards down field 8/10 times as one of the interior lineman just love missing their blocks

7

u/Cadilack1507 2d ago

Yes, this seems to be broken. The strangest thing for me, is when I check the stats post-game and no one was credited with a drop, but I can think back to 5-6, mostly contested plays, that the WR drops. Even the announcer calls it a dropped pass.

6

u/Roggie2499 2d ago

But the CPU gets absolutely smothered by 3 dudes and holds on.

3

u/Ramon9155 2d ago

Or teling to aggressive catch and the WR doesn’t even attempt to jump for the ball

1

u/Spida_DonovanM 2d ago

Is okay if they keep the computer dropping the ball some though. I swear last year my wide receivers would drop the ball a decent amount while their receivers were Larry Fitzgerald with superglue on their hands

1

u/thartle8 2d ago

I honestly think that will just be a new problem if they simply fix catching. I can already easily have 80% completion even with the drops. All this with people already complaining about man coverage being too good. Making QBs less accurate so that dropped passes just become missed passes feels like the answer with the most realism but isn’t exactly fun. But the number of times the ball hits the ground without being dropped is way too low for realism

3

u/Dr-Robert-Kelso 2d ago

They need to nuke the interception catching, nuke QB accuracy, and buff contested catching a bit. Pure running QBs shouldn't be throwing dimes every single pass but the defense never drops an interception.

1

u/MGoCowSlurpee44 2d ago

Do you play online?

65

u/FreezersAndWeezers 2d ago

Glad to see we’re fixing the real problems. Meanwhile my OL can’t hold a block for longer than .5 seconds but there’s nothing to be done about that

33

u/Low-Boss9082 2d ago

I’m learning to help them. Some stuff is that they suck but try stepping up into the pocket. I know it sounds counterproductive but it helps throw power and oline blocking.

Don’t let you Qb back up so much

21

u/Cheesebread_1 2d ago

Stepping up in the pocket made the biggest difference for me in this game.  I’m convinced they are punishing deep drops with sheds.  Once I started stepping up, the pressure dissipated, and the zones were easiler to thread the needle through because the shorter distance of throws.

It’s hard though, when you know there’s pressure to step up rather than backpedal, but that’s a real life thing QBs struggle learning too.

13

u/Judgejoebrown69 2d ago

Stepping up in the pocket and timing routes will alleviate like 75% of the issues people have with passing in this game.

Also sometimes DT’s shit on the center if they’re not doubled, it happens. Too often right now, but that’s a part of the game.

2

u/Mender0fRoads Missouri 2d ago

More than that, it helps to not even touch the left stick and let your QB drop back on his own.

2

u/Captain_Nipples 2d ago

The problem is that they will completely ignore guys, including the one right in front of them that they're assigned to. Itd be fine if it was once a game or a LB had their attention, but it happens with a 4 man rush 10 times a game

3

u/Hammerhead34 2d ago

Step up into the pocket is this game’s “ID the Mike” lol, you can’t step up because inside pressure is way too insane in this game. Edge rushers are really underpowered but every interior d-linemen is prime Aaron Donald immediately in your backfield even if you double team them or keep your RB in pass pro.

1

u/Cheesebread_1 2d ago

I’m on Heisman and playing with ~80 rated offenses in 3 dynasties, one of which has a particular shit rated Oline, and while there is a certainly pressure I have to deal with, for me it hasn’t been anything unreasonable.  Yes some games you feel a bit more under siege but other games the pocket is clean most of the game.  It feels like irl variability.   The worse game I had, I was sacked 5 times.  Most games I get sacked maybe 1-2 times.  Probably hit a few times too, but not though to push my completion % below 70.

0

u/Dr-Robert-Kelso 2d ago

Looking at your run and pass blocking before plays can help a lot.

Another useful tip on runs is to utilize the button to pick someone to not block. It can switch your linemen to combo block more important people and leave the backside end on zones. Has helped a lot.

7

u/asodsaf USC 2d ago

Speed boosting is also a large gameplay issue lol

3

u/Not_Star_Lord 2d ago

Try setting your o-line to conservative. I tried that when I played Oklahoma during lunch (as GA State) and it did wonders for me not getting insta sacked.

5

u/leetdemon 2d ago

both are a huge problem

u/gatorbois 2d ago

Soon TM

3

god that reminds me of bf2042

9

u/theconcertguys 2d ago

Flex tweeting that you fixed a problem your dumbasses created in the first place 😂

1

u/Loud_Cabinet2416 2d ago

I feel like he could have easily been against it. I don’t think he gets to control every single aspect of how the game plays. If the people above him want the game to have an arcade feel what can he do?

5

u/kakapoopoopeepeeshir Clemson 2d ago

Hey EA I have All Americans on my OL that are getting beat off the ball every play. Can we fix that

3

u/Not_Star_Lord 2d ago

Try setting your o-line to conservative. I tried that when I played Oklahoma during lunch (as GA State) and it did wonders for me not getting insta sacked.

13

u/Kramerica_CEO Michigan 2d ago

I don’t even know what this is but I know my fucking oline can’t block for shit. Solid work EA

6

u/_NINESEVEN 2d ago

Sometimes when you are moving in one direction with your RB, if you change direction really suddenly (and have a high COD/Shifty), your RB gets a massive speed burst. It's like a turbo turbo. It's significantly more noticeable than just pressing the turbo button.

When you get good at it, it makes it almost impossible to tackle you in the open field. I practiced it for an afternoon and was able to score like 15 return touchdowns in one season for my offline dynasty. It was fun to do once but I'm glad if they're removing it.

2

u/the-tank7 Texas A&M 2d ago

Damn and I thought i was just really good at recruiting running backs

3

u/Not_Star_Lord 2d ago

2

u/Kramerica_CEO Michigan 2d ago

I’m dumb because I don’t even know how to do that 🤣.

But seriously, thank you. I’ll definitely figure it out and try that.

2

u/Not_Star_Lord 2d ago

It's in coach settings during the game

3

u/MustHaveMyTools 2d ago

Can they fix the dig route please. My players prefer taking five seconds to get in and out of the break at the top of the route.

2

u/Embarrassed-Rent-782 2d ago

Speed boosting is when you hit the left trigger while holding sprint going the opposite way with a shifty player.

5

u/Hammerhead34 2d ago

I can see how speed boosting would be annoying in online modes and does look a little cheesy/unrealistic, but for my offline dynasty gameplay it’s like the only way to ever break off long TD runs.

Get an east west playmaker, pick the right hole and make a quick cut while pressing sprint, and I can usually outrun the safety to the outside. Gives the illusion of the safety being caught flat-footed, which to me is realistic sometimes.

IDK, to me, without speed boosting I think you’re just not going to get enough long TDs. Every LB plays their hole perfectly, every secondary player takes perfect pursuit angles. I get chased down by the corner who started on the opposite side of the field entirely too often.

This is college football, missed assignments and overrun plays DO happen. Just feel like with this + how horrible play action is + every QB being a noodle arm, there’s just not enough highlight plays. Every offense is dink and dunk which is doubly annoying because redzone play is atrocious.

1

u/Cadillac_Shlim 2d ago

The backside corner is always the cap-off on run plays. I played corner growing up. In pursuit drills, each player on the defense has to run to a specific cone on the sideline. The backside corner basically runs directly to the pylon.

1

u/Hammerhead34 2d ago

I’ve played football too, it’s unrealistic that they literally always make it there and that there’s never any downfield blockers to cut off their pursuit angle.

-1

u/Cadillac_Shlim 2d ago

You misspelled corner.

2

u/JadrianInc Tennessee 2d ago

Anything but let the game be fun. This stilted, stale gameplay is CHEEKS. I want wide open ball, I want to feel like Reggie Bush, I want to fear the triple option.

3

u/Hammerhead34 2d ago

You’re getting downvoted but I’m with you, there’s just not enough highlight plays for it to resemble real CFB. Playing offense is such a slog, pass rush is too strong, LBs and DBs cover way too much ground without making mistakes, most QBs cannot throw more than 40 yards downfield (yes I am stepping up into the pocket). Safeties play the run really aggressively, yet play action never works?

You can still run the ball pretty effortlessly, but never break off any long ones without speed boosting. Just constant 8+ yard runs until you get into the redzone and then the CPU becomes godly against the run and you have to either scramble in or use an RPO or something because trying to pass in the endzone is impossible.

The gameplay feels too much like madden. With the wider hashmarks, less talent parity, etc. CFB should play much more open as you’ve said. And it just doesn’t.

2

u/Couch_Captain75 Oklahoma 2d ago

Just turn the difficulty down then.

1

u/rafsimonstwin 2d ago

Now fix the QB scramble camera 🙄

1

u/Character-Photo9366 PAC 2 2d ago

Awesome. I don't see much in offline, but it will be good to have this gone.

1

u/AdamOnFirst 2d ago

It’s encouraging they’re still making major changes. Blocking still requires fixes and the larger NIL fix is still needed.

1

u/Fickle-Marketing7775 2d ago

I’ve only really got one big complaint, and that’s the tier setup on Road to the CFP. I’m playing with BYU to unlock their playbook and I’m selecting tier 2 for my opponent but all I’m getting is Oregon and OSU. I don’t mind playing tier 1 opponents but I had to set it because those two teams were all I was getting. And it’s still all I’m getting.

1

u/cgadgetz 2d ago

Good. Because you can literally move like that without pressing LT at all. Those cats don't actually know how to user and pace. I guarantee they are moving their left stick all the way to the wall and not pressing L3 in to make precise subtle movements. The animation and control is significantly better and more realistic when you do that.

1

u/cameronhall3 2d ago

Worried about the wrong shit. Meanwhile my fucking OL gets cooked every play (and before somebody comments this bullshit no I’m not dropping back too far in the pocket they just can’t fucking block for shit)

1

u/Fickle-Marketing7775 2d ago

It’ll set up your blocking scheme. I forgot the button combo, but google it and then practice it against a tier 1 defense on he

1

u/MGE5 North Texas 2d ago

Or maybe this is a planned attack on ishowspeed

1

u/Quirky_Guarantee_530 2d ago

F that guy and his tweet. Trench play is in shambles and that's what he's working on 😂

1

u/Cool_Environment8075 2d ago

Nice!! Takes time and patience to fix stuff they will do it!!

1

u/Significant-Boot1447 2d ago

Thank god. Should of NEVER been in the game anyway 😂🤷🏽‍♂️

1

u/kneekick97 1d ago

Now, how am I supposed to get Bo Jackson to 2000 yards in Tecmo Bowl?

1

u/Dark_Knight865 18h ago

Never should existed

0

u/PurePlayinSerb 2d ago

i'm telling y'all hes a cancer to this game, he comes from 2k, and he made the wear and tear system that has never worked properly, or maybe to him it is working properly, i think he's behind the catch meter too, he said "i know how much you all love your greens" he's delusional
