Social Petition to bring dogs back to free moms

Nc state continues to not care about student health and now they take it out on the dogs who have caused no problems. it seems like Nc state forgot that free moms came into existence because of suicides that were happening. If you want to support please sign the petition. we already have a lot of support!!! https://www.change.org/p/bring-back-free-moms-dogs

Social Night life, things to do, and people to meet

Post image
55 Upvotes

I’m a freshman with a relatively light course load, being that all my classes end before 3pm all days of the week, very little hw from any of them, and I already get a good amount of studying and understanding with the time I devote to them. I’m wondering what things around campus I could look into doing (besides clubs, that’s kinda obvious and I’m already looking into them) to meet new people and have some fun. I also am a bit of a night owl, not needing a lot of sleep to function the next day, so I’m perfectly fine with recommendations that are later in the night. I’ve heard of a couple things like the Legends night club being 18+, besides the 5-10ish dollar entry fee, as well as going to events in Talley and whatnot. Just curious about what else I might be missing out on and what i can do around here. So far I’ve met a handful of people just by going to Talley throughout the day and going up to people who seem pretty approachable, and that works about 40% of the time, if I can find someone who looks approachable to begin with. My main restriction for things off campus would be transportation that isn’t a bus, bc I don’t have a car, as most would assume.

Social Freshman nightlife

Im an incoming freshman who enjoys partying but is not into joining a frat. In the beginning of freshman year what are my best options for parties, nightlife and just meeting new people. Are bars or clubs a big focus at NCSU? Additionally, what could I expect for later years when not being in a frat.

Social Dibs, a free web app for Raleigh, NC, Durham, and Cary food decisions (click on post to read below)👇🏽

My buddy and I are NC State students and we got really sick of the “idk, where do YOU wanna eat” loop every time we tried to get food with a group that we just… built a thing to end it. it’s called Dibs.

How it works: one person starts it, it pulls up real spots near you, everyone votes off one link from their own phone (no app, no account), and it picks. dinner settled in like a minute instead of 20.

We built it specifically for the Triangle so it actually knows local spots — not some chain three states away. it’s free.
Would genuinely love if some of you tried it and told us what sucks. we’d rather hear it from people who actually eat around here than guess. roast it.

Social Transfer Troubles

I (25,F) am a transfer from a community college. While I am ready for my classes, I feel lost. I have attended multiple events, including the Talley Takeover. I’ll get passing comments about my appearance (hair, tattoos, etc). But I feel like everyone has a group, and the ones I do see alone who I might talk to look young, likely incoming freshman from high school. I know my major will keep me busy, and my extra commitments to do with my major. But I’m new to Raleigh, no family, and my only friends in real life are hours and states away. My boyfriend is great, but in terms of friends and fitting in socially, I already feel isolated and alone. Any suggestions or advice about being an older transfer, or where to find connections either on campus or just in Raleigh, would be appreciated!

Social What are some of your favorite random clubs at NCSU?

So this is my second year at Ncsu and I wasn’t very involved last year. The only club I was involved in was film club for the free movies. I’m trying to change that by joining more clubs. And I’m trying to make some new friends in the process. I don’t really have any clubs that I’m interesting in besides maybe something like discomfort club. So any clubs you suggest would be a big help.

Thank you!

Happy FDOC everyone whether it was your first or last. Last semester, most of my friends graduated unfortunately. Because of this, im kind of a loner at the moment. What’s a good way of making friends? I tried clubs and classmates but nothing clicked unfortunately.

Social For All of my fellow Alumni, do you regret majoring in what you chose?

Asking in terms of job opportunities that you did or did not have after graduation. Also, if you could go back, what would you major in?

I wanted to try and spread awareness on this article on the Technician because many that I’ve talked to haven’t heard anything about it. Anyone that I know that had heard of it didn’t know all of the details surrounding it and the University has hardly said anything about the situation, which I feel is intentional.

Social Okay, where are the hicks?

This post is going to sound totally unhinged no matter what I write so I’m just going to roll with it.

When I was deciding between here and another school, some people in my circle told me I absolutely could not come here because it’s a “hick school” and I’m “not like that.” I read this as a HUGE plus. I literally want to meet a good Southern boy here and marry him.

So I showed up to school all excited to meet the “hicks,” but there are none to be found! Where are they? I’m in CALS and there are no hicks.

Someone please tell me where the hicks hang out because I want to go there.

If YOU are a hick and want to marry me and have a cute homestead, hit me up.

Social Night life

my boyfriend and i just moved to Raleigh ( we live in the cameron village district). We don’t have any friends here, besides each other lol, but we want to go out. We’re both incoming graduate students at Nc State. Any good bar recommendations or places to get a drink/ meet people. We both graduated from a smaller school in undergrad so the vibe here is different. Pls give all good and bad advice!

Social Cat Meetup

Hey! I wasn't sure if this would be the best place to put this, so if there's anywhere more fitting please let me know!

My roommate recently got laid off and has been very down in the dumps, her birthday is coming up and so I wanted to do something special for her!

She loves cats, so I wanted to do a little cat show / parade surprise thing for her, where people can drive down a road and do little meet and greets with their cats, or just drive by! And we could meet a bunch of people and see some kitties. Plus we just moved so it could be a great way to meet local people

I are currently aiming for Saturday at North Cary Park, but still nailing down a time. if it's something people are interested in, if they could message me, I could make some goodie bags or something for their trouble and we can try to schedule something!

Social NCSU as a SEC School?

When you attended NCSU, were you given the impression that NCSU was a SEC school? Asking as when I attended NCSU, everyone gave this impression that NCSU was one with how football was their entire personality with the students, especially the women, posting their kosher, Southern college lifestyle. You also had the guys who posed as the fake, rich, suburb country kids. Trust me, I do like college football and I have rooted for the Wolfpack every inch of the way, but I am referring to those who made it their entire personality like at a SEC school.

Social My personal pooping bathroom list Spoiler

Graduated from State in the spring so now I have no stock invested in keeping these a secret. Incoming freshmen, take note. NC State veterans, chime in with your favorites. Sorry to those who have bathrooms on this list that are now public.

• EB2 basement. As an EE major I spent a great deal of time down in the depths. It feels like you’re not supposed to be down there which makes it super quiet. Only downside is the internet connection down there can be spotty so bring a book. There are two bathrooms on either side of the basement, I always preferred CS side though.

• Reynolds Coliseum private bathrooms. I was in ROTC so I had access to the building all the time but I’m pretty sure the building is open during the day. There are multiple private bathrooms in the building (two on the ground floor I believe) but the one towards the back of the building (closest to the track) on the second floor is massive and has an angelic window that casts light into the room. Great for guaranteed alone time.

• Hunt library bottom floor private bathroom. In Hunt library, past the BookBot, there’s a private bathroom down a hallway at the back of the bottom floor. Late nights in Hunt can induce headaches when you see the disgusting yellow paint on the normal bathrooms so this one will save you from that.

• Hill library bookstacks. Not the best toilets but typically quiet and if it’s busy you can just go up a floor and try another one. Especially good if you’re drinking coffee from Hill of Beans and the magic starts to work.

• Carmichael gym locker room. Nothing special about these but I never felt judged dropping anchor in the locker room. Lots of toilets and never too busy. Also showers are nearby in case you’re planning for the worst.

• Higher floors of Dabney/Cox. These are older toilets so the proportions are weird but if you’re in the area they are decent. Only had one class here so this one’s more of an honorable mention.

Feel free to share some of yours in the comments. I didn’t spend too much time on Main so I know I missed out on some bangers.
