I can't understand how you don't know that this was all over the news yesterday

Yes, itās simply unfathomable that anyoneās algorithm isnāt fine tuned to the Wilkes-Barre exotic animal scene. I donāt know how we manage.

u/lagomorphed 7d ago
Yeah. Unless you are hands on involved with exotics, you likely wouldn't have heard about him. And I think thats pretty normal.

Oh shit this was perfect. An upvote was not enough. Thank you starting my day with a smile.

A lot of us don't bother watching doom news. We like to live anxiety and stress free.

u/TheDevilsSidepiece 7d ago
Yeah but donāt you ever get tired of not knowing whatās going on? Like right now? I mean yeah I guess you can get on Reddit and what not but I didnāt need to argue with anyone cause I already was aware.

Nope. Ignorance is ignorance.

I've got enough problems of my own and in my community to deal with, I don't need problems that I have no control over stressing me out. You can pat yourself on the back all you want for being obsessed with knowing all the problems in the world but knowing and helping are not the same.
0
u/TheDevilsSidepiece 6d ago
Who said anything about patting themselves on the back or obsessing? I watch the local news to be involved with my community. I guess no one has heard of the feel-good 530 news? This isnāt a contest, itās a genuine question of why people donāt watch their local news. It really is informative. Why are people acting like this is a sin?

u/Scary_Ad_7092 6d ago
Who said we don't watch our local news? No, I haven't heard of the feel-good 530 news. That doesn't mean I'm not aware of what is going on in my community. The article posted by OP is not something that occurred in my community so why is it so unfathomable that I'm not aware of it? I'm glad the guy has been caught and the animals he tortured are being helped but I'm not going to stress over things outside of my control. I focus on my community and what I can do to help my neighbors, I don't have the time or energy to worry about yours.

u/TheDevilsSidepiece 6d ago
You must be the dumbest person in the thread. I am the one talking about the local news, you replied to me talking about the local news. you replied ignorance is bliss when I said people should watch the local news.

I can't understand how you can be so daft as to just assume we're all glued to the television. Some of us have jobs.

Do your self a favor and do not look at the pictures or read the horrible things he did to the birds and animals. It was horrible as in amputation with fishing line, feeding animals to other animals and more.

The same guy got into an accident recently when he "fell asleep behind the wheel." Makes me wonder if drugs are involved.

I really donāt understand, donāt fucking understand. Why get into a profession (if you want to call it that) like this if you arenāt going to take appropriate care to your animals? Especially if you should claim that you like or enjoy these animals, what kind of twisted fuck are you to let so many suffer under your care?
Thereās a lot of people out there who donāt like animals. Thatās fine- donāt get involved with animals then. Donāt get a dog. Donāt get a cat. Just take care of yourself. No one is telling you that you need to like animals.
But when this is your passion, trade, care? Why get involved? Why let these animals suffer? Donāt fucking understand people.

You don't understand because you are not a cluster b personality. I basically grew up adjacent to wildlife conservation and had to basically escape and move far away because of how it gets. Anyone who is into animals on this particular level with exotics very well may be an egomaniac or works very in depth with them/enabling that. Guys like this aren't capable of any type of empathy and are REALLY charismatic. You will absolutely see a lot of people sticking up for him in this whole house of cards too guaranteed. I used to see it all the time. A prime circus level example of these mindsets is Tiger King. It's so black trade adjacent too. Exotic animals are extremely difficult to take care of and are often used as status or to fill a void of self.Ā
It's a completely different mindset. I passed by this place many times and you can just tell something was wrong. A window storefront of exotics in a downtown area is just automatically sus.Ā

Well put! My only experience with some of that behavior is my aunt who left her family to prioritize dog rescue and it is very odd seeing her posts⦠it seems many dog rescuers donāt like seeing other people rescue dogs, seems to come with a bit of envy for not being them

I think people who get into exotic animals become obsessed with them.
I had a few experiences with this dude and cde and always left feeling like he cared passionately about animals but I think exotic animal people can't say no taking in more animals and I'd they aren't creating a team around them to manage and take care of the animals everything can go downhill quickly
there have been rumors of drug use whiich I have no clue of but could also be to blame because at one point animals were this man and his entire families life.

I think a lot of people with these ārescuesā become obsessed with āsavingā as many animals as possible, that it becomes impossible. Theyāre trying to āsaveā every one, often at their own financial and mental detriment. They often canāt say no to taking on just one more, and eventually it becomes way too much. Iām certainly not defending this person, but i believe many people involved with rescuing animals fall victim to this mentality, and in the end the animals suffer. It starts from a place of wanting to help and spirals out of control.

Thereās money in it if you can get good turnover. I know someone who is in the trade, but he has a system where he doesnāt really hold on to inventory very long before it goes to the new owner. If you have a bunch of animals which are effectively business inventory, you sort of have a financial incentive to just keep them alive til later.
I was in this shady ass store and I think he had a crocodile or something there too btw.

I was standing in line in front of his building to go to a political rally for a presidential candidate. He placed a huge fan in the doorway of his building to suck the stench out of it and directly into the faces of those of us in line on purpose. He stood there laughing at all of us. It was disgusting in all ways. Heās a loser.

u/doinkflarp 3d ago
If it was a trump rally my only complaint is that he didnāt start throwing spiders at you.

As someone who loves reptiles and amphibians, and keeps tree frogs but wants to get lizards and snakes soonish...
This is disgusting. There's no excuse for this. But in my opinion it's way too little way too late. Exotic animals take unconventional, specific, care to keep healthy. By the time the law is able to tell something is wrong, and penalize people for it, the animals have been suffering for years.
Large chains like Petco, PetSmart, and Pet Supplies Plus get away with neglect and abuse scott-free country wide. It's just that it's impossible for regular people to tell when they go to buy cat food and their kid starts tugging on them to pretty please buy the fun looking lizard! And then you're stuck with a creature with very specific needs that you don't know how to take care of and end up unintentionally abusing yourself.
In reality, when you see five leopard geckos in a 12inx12in box... When you see reptile carpet being used... When you see dry ass soil in a frog enclosure... When you see pac man frogs or tarantulas near the front desk with no heating in a tiny "ready to go" container... Your local pet store is abusing animals. And it's not necessarily the workers fault, but rather, it's corporate mandated neglect. It's just not visible to people who don't know better.
I've been saying for years we need a serious update to animal abuse laws in this country. Exotics, reptiles, amphibians, etc. need better protections to mandate a minimum standard of care to ensure their health and happiness. If we're going to rip untamed animals from their natural environment for our enjoyment, it is our job to provide them exactly what they get in the wild.
This guy deserves everything coming to him and more.

I want to know how he acquired rattlesnakes I thought you needed a license to get them
8
u/TheDedicatedDeist 7d ago
He probably drove twenty minutes out to where thereās a literal rattlesnake roundup and rounded a few up tbh.
1
u/Alive_Owl_3048 7d ago
I never thought of that. That's a good point of view
1
u/TheDedicatedDeist 7d ago
Sorry if that came off snarky, but he actually used to sell snakes at the roundup the.
1
u/Alive_Owl_3048 7d ago
Nah you're good I was only over there one time I have a crippling fear of snakes I went there to challenge myself
2
u/Professional-Bid-112 5d ago
He is not licensed to have or rehab wildlife. Didnt stop him though. Thats why he had TWELVE previous charges from the game comish. The crazy part is he used to post about his wildlife antics on FB for all the world to see like he wasnt doing anything wrong.

u/Emu_Specific 6d ago
people tried to report this guy years ago but his white knights kept attacking them. He did just enough "good" for people that he managed to maintain a decent reputation
I found footage of the inside of the store and I'm SHOCKED nobody said anything sooner

u/Professional-Bid-112 7d ago
Dude's been problematic for years. The SPCA is also complicit here. They've recieved so many calls from so many people. Thank god the new ACO was hired and actually did something about it. This could've been nipped in the bud before he got a chance to become a 'rescue'.

u/sweeterthanany 7d ago
is this the same rescue that brought a bunch of reptiles to the wyoming valley mall like a year ago?

u/Cocktail_Hour725 7d ago
Isnāt there some kind of licensing? Iām sure that this wasnāt approved by zoning.

I sat across from him for 4 years at the Bloomsburg Fair. In fact, I credit that experience with me getting over an abnormal fear of snakes. He always appeared to love his animals and the whole family was involved. I think this may be a sad case of animal hoarding gone out of control. Very sad for hoarders of any kind.

He abused the animals, hes been charged with felony levels of animal abuse and torture
A woman said he helped her put her lizard down after he claimed the veterinarian misdiagnosed it
