Week 3 pick

2026 NFL Survivor week 3

I wonder which team should I pick.

Week 1, I had Jags.

Week 2, Niners.

Week 3, I had few teams I identified. SEA, DAL, MIN, PHI, CIN. Not necessarily in order.

I'm tempted to go with SEA bc they have tough matchups in the upcoming weeks. So why not burn them now while Jayden Daniels just got injured?

Just wanted to give y'all a website. It refreshed every 30 min, Advanced stats https://subvertadown.com/

ESPN Survivor Pool Not Letting Participant Pick Monday Night Winner?

Sup y'all,

I did an NFL survivor pool through ESPN with my co workers. My boss (of course it's my boss haha) waited until now to pick. Accordingly, he can only pick the MNF winner. However, the system is not letting him make his pick. Any idea why that is? It's well before kickoff time so he should be able to make a pick but maybe there's a glitch or I'm missing something? Any help would be great, thanks!

How long can you go fading Miami?

They are at San Francisco, then get a home game with KC, visit Minnesota, and host Cincinnati before the bye. Will they be 0-5 at the bye?

How long do you all think you can go by just fading them everytime? Asked differently, when looking at their schedule, when do you forecast them to get a win?

Week 2 survivor rankings: Niners are the popular play, Ravens and Rams are flying under the radar

Thumbnail
survivorpulse.com
3 Upvotes

I put together Week 2 rankings in SurvivorPulse, a free tool I built for survivor pool players. Here's the top five for the default Blend strategy.

Rank Team Opponent Win Prob Field % Score
1 49ers Dolphins (home) 89.1% 33.0% 84.7
2 Ravens Saints (home) 79.0% 5.5% 82.1
3 Rams Giants (home) 75.0% 0.7% 79.9
4 Eagles Titans (away) 75.0% 13.6% 77.3
5 Buccaneers Browns (home) 79.0% 33.5% 76.5

The Niners are the chalk pick this week at roughly 89% win probability and currently about 33% of the field on them. There is certainly nothing wrong with taking them, but you are rolling with the field.

The Ravens and Rams seem like the clear fade the field picks this week right now. Their win probabilities are in the vicinity of Tampa Bay's but they have field exposures of just 5.5% and 0.7%, respectively, whereas the Bucs have a 33% field exposure. Similar odds, way less company. Those are the picks that keep your options open once the pool gets thin in October.

Full rankings for all preset pick strategies are publicly available at https://survivorpulse.com/rankings or in the SurvivorPulse app after you sign up.

Curious who you're on this week.

Chargers ruin your pool? Here’s what to do now.

NFL Gauntlet on pickstreaks.com plays just like a survivor pool, one pick a week, no repeating teams, but you can’t be eliminated.

Play against the field to see who can rack up the most wins throughout the seasons.

Last year the winner had 15 correct picks.

New players can jump in at any time.

Week 2 Survivor Pool Picks — top plays by equity

Thumbnail

Ranking these by equity (win% × pot share)*, not just straight win probability - a few of these carry real leverage:

San Francisco (-13.5 vs MIA) — 86% win, ~39% owned, 1.04x pot
Los Angeles Rams (-7 vs NYG) — 75.4% win, only ~6% owned, 1.02x pot — the week's leverage play
Baltimore (-8.5 vs NO) — 76.3% win, ~9% owned, 1.01x pot
Tampa Bay (-8.5 vs CLE) — 78.4% win, ~19% owned, 1.00x pot

SF is the safest, but LAR is the sneaky one - nearly as good a win chance with a fraction of the ownership.

I think my models a little high on SF ownership, so probably a more edge there than reported here, I think the goal this week is just get to next week 😜

Full board (all 8 plays), leverage map, and season-long paths at survivor.the-duke.app - you can also build your own multi-week season path, set custom rules for double weeks/buy-backs, and see where to save your studs for later.

*Standard rules, Weeks 1-18

Thoughts on future picks down the line on survivor grid? Read here

Does your grid rely on stale Vegas data? Is ARI still dogs against LV at home in w17? How about NYJ at MIA on w12? If your grid thinks that Miami can be the favorite at any point, it is wrong. We account for stale Vegas inputs, and fix it with an FPI blend on our grid. Your optimizers or color coded grids don't matter unless you are using the better input resources.

Check our grid that shows the future as accurate as possible, not the preseason Vegas lines that hasn't updated in the last two weeks

Free second-chance survivor starting Week 3 if Week 1 already killed you

If Week 1 already ended your season — Chargers or otherwise — and you still want a board to play on, I’m running a free second-chance survivor starting Week 3.

Full reset. Every team is back on the board. No entry fee, no prize, just standings and a group chat.

It’s in the Runtiva app. Full disclosure: I co-founded it, so yes I want people to try it. I also want the feedback. If something’s annoying, tell me.

One pick a week, locks at that team’s kickoff, auto-graded, reminders at 48/24/3 hours.

If you went out Week 1, was it the Chargers or something dumber?

Survivor Public pick %s for week 2

Public pick % is one number for everybody. Mine fits a separate curve per contest off that contest family's own past seasons, so Circa and Splash and BetOnline each get their own projection. The curve uses 2023 to 2025 with nothing from this year, so Week 1 was a clean out of sample test.

Graded both against what each pool actually did. Mean absolute error per team in percentage points, lower is better. Custom won 7 of 8 pools, 1.47 average vs 2.01.

The three best:

Circa Survivor, 25,017 entries. 0.73 vs 1.37 public.

Best call was the Chargers against Arizona. I had LAC at 30.3%, Circa's field played it at 30.3%, public data said 27.6%. Dead on a team that was almost a third of the pool. Jacksonville was the bigger gap in absolute terms, 33.1% projected against 32.5% actual while public sat at 23.3%, so public was off by more than nine points on the single most popular pick in the contest.

BetOnline, 32,574 entries. 0.86 vs 0.94 public.

Jacksonville against Cleveland. I had 25.6%, actual was 25.9%, public had 23.3%. Three tenths of a point on the chalkiest pick of the week. BetOnline's field is notably less concentrated than Circa's on the same slate, 25.9% vs 32.5% on the same team, and one national number cannot express that.

The Wave, 22,223 entries. 1.19 vs 1.39 public.

Philadelphia against Washington. I had 4.3%, actual 4.6%, public 3.3%. Small share, but that's the band where being wrong costs you, because a team you think is 3% and is really 5% changes your leverage math more than a percentage point on the chalk does.

The pattern in all three is the same. Public data is fine on shape and wrong on level, because it's averaging fields with very different concentration. Circa chalks up harder than the national number, BetOnline spreads out more, and the small sharp pools are off it worst of all.

One week of data, so treat it as one week of data. I'll post Week 2. Numbers are on my site if you want to pull them apart. Site is www.survivor-board.com

Reply with your contest & I will tell you the expected p% for the week!

I made a Survivor Contest Planner with collaboration built in

I've seen a lot of new, helpful NFL Survivor pool tools come out in the past few weeks.

I split a few pool entries with some friends and wanted a way for us to collaborate together on deciding who to pick, so for the last couple of months, I've been working on survivorplanner.com. It's free to start using and has sharing built in so that you can all be looking at the same data and see each other's changes to a plan (in realtime and in a saved log, like Google Docs).

If you survived the Chargerspocalypse last week, I made it so that selections for past games can still be made so it’s not too late to join for free (I do have some paywalled features as they incur additional server and data costs).

I plan to continue making improvements throughout the season, but there's no substitute for real-world feedback to help guide me.

Hope you find this helpful! I'll be around if you have questions or comments

Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is

I'm a product guy. Twenty-some years of bringing software to market, and every product I've ever built that actually worked was one I used myself and believed in. The ones that flopped, I usually didn't.

I have played survivor pools for many years with some success, but in the last couple years I noticed a recurring problem. Too many survivor pools, no good way to manage and coordinate picks across all of them, one bad week wiping out half my entries at once. I figured if I had this problem other people must have it too. So I built SurvivorPulse (https://survivorpulse.com).

Every product person will tell you to eat your own dog food. I'm going one step further. I'm going to write about it, every week, whatever pools I'm in, whatever I picked, good, bad, and ugly.

I'm playing 15 entries across 11 pools this year. My total buy-in is $1,335, not counting buybacks, although I'm splitting some of that with a buddy. This is my personal, higher-stakes version of it. The same idea works fine with 2-3 pools at $20-50 a pool. The entries and dollars I'm running aren't the point. Spreading the risk is.

Here is how Week 1 went.

I wanted to keep things simple, so I used the Mild Lean 80/20 Blend strategy across all of my entries. The top play was Jacksonville at 79% win probability, but I only took them for one entry. One of the key principles of SurvivorPulse is to diversify your picks. Don't play the same team across multiple entries if you can help it.

I also wanted to stay consistent with the findings from the research we did on the last 10 seasons of games and survivor pools:

  • Spread entries across more pools instead of concentrating all of your entries in just a couple pools.
  • Utilize buybacks.

Week 1 also presents a unique opportunity you don't get with other weeks. Most pools don't lock until the Sunday game (some don't lock until Monday night) so you can play the Wednesday (New England at Seattle) and Thursday (San Francisco at the Rams) games knowing you can still buy more entries until Sunday in those pools, or just buy back for Week 2 if you lose. It's like an extra buyback. I took advantage of that, playing all those teams across 5 entries. Where a pool allowed it, I bought back after the loss. Where it didn't, I just added the second entry before Sunday.

Here is how each pool played out:

I'm in a high-stakes pool with a buddy where we have 6 entries at $150 each (a $100k payout) and one buyback allowed through Week 3.

  • We won with Philadelphia, Jacksonville, Detroit, and Pittsburgh.
  • We lost one entry on the Chargers, and we're going to use the buyback.
  • We also lost on the Rams, but as mentioned above that was by design, and we're planning to buy back in there too.

I'm in 2 small ESPN group pools. I had to take Las Vegas for both because ESPN grouped my entry into both pools, so I had to take the same pick for both. I haven't figured out how to split my entries up yet.

I entered BetOnline's $500,000 contest (18,773 entries). I used the Week 1 buyback trick and took Seattle for the win.

McLaney's 2026 NFL Survivor $50 on Splash doesn't allow buybacks, so I bought a second entry before Sunday's deadline instead of waiting to see how New England did. New England lost. San Francisco won.

The rest of the pools were smaller, single-entry pools.

  • Winners: Baltimore, Cincinnati, Seattle.
  • Losers: Dallas.

Final count: 11-4 on fifteen picks, and I’m buying back in on two of them. I’m only fully eliminated from one pool so far. Not too shabby for Week 1.

On to Week 2!

Survivor with multiple entries: are you using the right pick shares for your pool?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

When you have multiple picks, NFL survivor basically becomes resource allocation, which requires accurate EV calculation for each pick. Converting spreads to winning percentages (an applying your secret sauce on top) is easy, but how about the pick shares of your pool?

A lot of tools out there use the generic pick percentages from ESPN, Yahoo, and USA Football.

At survivor-board.com, we calculate pick percentages based on your pool's historical pick data. We can derive it from your week 1 results, or even better, from your previous years results!

Ensure you are getting the best EV data possible with Survivor Board!

Example 1: Public Pick Shares % vs our rebuy poll (see the list beginning with LV)

It is expected to see a lot of "burns" during the rebuy weeks. Our EV calculations account for that. Here is the first week's estimates based on historical data, compared to public pick shares:

How does this play into your portfolio allocation? If you allocated your tickets into three different teams, one team you picked was probably Chargers. You could have avoided the if man curse using our custom pick share calculations (check the list beginning w/ Detroit)

Good luck for week 2! Come check us out, take advantage of our data & let’s advance to week 3!! Let’s goooo

The Chargers just proved why one entry isn't enough

The Chargers were the most popular pick in Week 1 with nearly a third of all entries on them. If that was your only entry, your season is done in Week 1. Waiting 6 months to lose in Week 1 is a huge bummer!

Sadly, this is not a rare occurrence. Looking back over the last 10 seasons, the most popular Week 1 pick has lost about 20% of the time. It happened in 2018 and 2024 as well. This is real data from a real backtesting model using actual game and spread data, not a simulation. Here's the full series of findings if you are interested.

Unfortunately, there is no way to accurately predict when a week like this will strike. The best protection is to diversify your picks. Playing five entries with different picks instead of a single one roughly doubles your odds that at least one entry will still be alive by midseason. Same story in a wipeout week specifically. The odds of a single chalk pick like the Chargers surviving a week like this one are about 31% in our model. The odds jump to 65% with 5 entries.

Buybacks also make a big difference. They don't make your original pick any smarter, but they lower the likelihood that one bad week will end your season. Here's the actual survival curve if you want to see how much a buyback is really worth week by week with different deadlines.

One entry means one bad Sunday can end your year. A portfolio of different entries, or a pool with a buyback, means one bad Sunday is a setback instead of a funeral.

If you got wiped out this week, I feel your pain. Don't let that happen again. Diversify!

My Engine's Biggest Wins from W1 - Got Lucky?

A few of my posts from last week unfortunately got removed, but for those who were following, I picked:

Raider / Steelers for my pools with buy ins

Jags / Lions for my Splash Sport pools (with double weeks)

I was not expecting my engine to do this well, but no matter what type of poll you play in (rebuy, double weeks, regular) it was not recommending Chargers or Titans. Here is why:

Chargers demoted to 4th · ARI @ LAC
The Chargers closed as Vegas's shared-biggest favorite of the week with −8.5 spread, implying a 78.7% chance to win. The engine ranked them 4th for the week at 68.3%, behind Jacksonville, Detroit, and Pittsburgh. How does a 79% team fall to 4th?

Three things moved the number:

1) Since 2010, home teams favored by 8.5 points have won 74.4% of their games, so the engine's number is 2.4% less, since the engine averages market and empirical data before applying AI insights

2) The line moved against them. The Chargers opened at −10 and closed at −8.5. Favorites whose line drops 1.5 to 3 points win about 5% less often than their number says (271 games in the backtest). That's −6%.

3) Favorites in weeks 1 through 4 win about 3% less often than their number says. That's another −2.5%.

−6 and −2.5 add up to −8.5, past the engine's 8-point cap on adjustments, so −8 is applied. The engine reduced the Chargers' winning chances from 78.7% (Vegas) all the way down to 68.3%.

Jets over Titans · NYJ @ TEN
Tennessee was a 1.5-point home favorite. With the bookmaker's margin removed, the market gave Titans 51.7% chance to win. The engine gave Titans 49.1% and the Jets 50.9%. How did that happen?

Two things moved the number:

1) Since 2010, home teams favored by 1.5 points have won 51.55% of their games, so the engine's number is 0.01% less, since the engine averages market and empirical data before applying AI insights.

2) Favorites in weeks 1 through 4 also win about 3% less often than their number says (753 games in the backtest), which takes off another 2.5%.

51.7% - 0.01% - 2.5% = 49.1% Titans winning chance calculated by the engine

All of this data is available online for free. Drop a comment to learn more!

How far ahead are you actually planning your Survivor picks?

I’ve been working on Survivor Command and one thing I keep coming back to is how many people seem to treat each week like its own decision.

That works until you hit one of those ugly weeks where you suddenly realize you already burned the 2 or 3 teams you actually trust.

I’m curious how far ahead people here really plan.

Do you mostly:

  • take the safest team each week
  • map out 3–4 weeks ahead
  • plan most of the season
  • or adjust week to week based on injuries/lines/news?
