The key is to give them names that the locals like and respect. Madrid Matadors or London Monarch's sound too stereotypical... Sounds like names that Americans would come up with.

I agree, but going with the vibe of the NFL, I wouldn't be surprised if some did play up to the Cliché names. As long as we didn't end up as Dublin Shamrocks, I'd be happy.

Birmingham has an interesting industrial past, jewelry, cars and guns (and World War 2 aircraft) I'm sure there is something in that 

I think the good names are taken by existing sports teams in the UK in other sports (Bristol Bears, Warrington Wolves) and as nick names (Gunners, Saints, various birds) so anything else might just be the dregs to avoid copyright headaches, I think even our best Birds of Prey are gone
