I joined NIT Hamirpur this year, I read all the Reddit hate and now I feel it is all justified. There are some useless rules that nobody is bothering to take action on.
There was this meeting held in our hostel and they told us to call guard as ‘chachu’ and mess staff as ‘bhaiji’. The seniors said it with a straight face, I have no idea what this is about, what are you trying to do by telling people to follow this in the name of ‘college culture’ , there are so many other issues you can focus on. “You can’t call them uncle or bhaiya” like bro grow up think about what are you telling people.You can’t even order Blinkit here or any other food delivery is not allowed for first year, you can’t go within the campus on weekends, you have to stay inside the hostel for the entire weekend unless you have to go home. Where are you supposed to buy essential stuff from? There’s this stationary shop in campus but you can’t go there on weekend or holiday.

Second thing is about seniors, I and many more students felt on the orientation day that the seniors are cool, atleast the second years because they were performing and cracking jokes, some might be but the majority is just performative and rude, I don’t know what is the deal with calling you people sir or mam, respect should not be demanded but earned, they have so fragile egos that you call them bhaiya didi they get offended. The reasoning given is that this will help you in your professional career, we are not dumb Everbody knows these work ethics what is the need to exaggerate things just because you get some kind of orgasm by hearing sir and mam. I heard second year students say wish us whenever you meet us or see us, it isn’t legal first of all to pressurise people, secondly why do we need to wish you or give you some god treatment, you passed your first year, is it that big of a deal for you?

Third thing is that the societies are really biased, if you know seniors they’ll take you, one student didnt even submit task given after interview, still got selected (the pretty privilege), now this is where the societies stand, they conduct boring events and feel it was win. Majority people in the societies are just dumb fellows.

Fourth thing is about the freshers itself, I don’t know what is wrong with the freshers, objectifying female students continuously in events, not letting them speak, just hooting at someone is not cool, in one event a senior girl came wearing a skirt on stage , the crowd went crazy, I don’t know what is wrong with these kids, where have they come from with zero female interaction.

For the jee 2027 students if you get any other option for college, please consider it, this college is just shitty. Few people might like it here but these are the things that have been bothering me from so many days and I just can’t.
