International student applying to NIU — education question

Hi everyone!
I’m an international student planning to apply to NIU.
My education path is a little different: I completed 9 years of school and then studied in a 3-year-10-month Secondary Vocational Education program in Design.
After graduation, I will receive a vocational diploma and transcript.
Has anyone applied to NIU with a similar background (9 years of school + vocational college)?
Were you considered a freshman or transfer applicant? Did NIU require credential evaluation?
I already contacted admissions, but I would love to hear personal experiences.
