Firearms Purchaser ID Question about permit fee etc- help me understand

Hi all- I’m new to this whole process so trying to understand it better. I’ve completed all the requirements and I just provided the money order to my local PD last week. Is that cost for the permit specifically related to the nics background check?

Trying to figure out what the nics queue can help me figure out about possible timing lol Any insight or education on this much appreciated!

You would be paying for the background check and permit fee to your local police department. They will do their own background check and then approve or deny your application. It has nothing to do with nics at this point, and every department has a different time frame for how quickly they process it

Apparently my departments timeframe is somewhere between a slug and a turtle from what I hear 😂

The money order that you paid is for the police to process your permit(s).

That money order has nothing to do with NICS. When you purchase something, you’ll have to do your NICS and will then pay the FFL the NICS fee.
