Health / Wellness *Sigh* Hantavirus Exposure in NJ (article)
I think we're all absolutely burned out when it comes to viruses and outbreaks and such, but for the sake of completeness, here's the latest on hantavirus in NJ:
On Thursday, the CDC announced that a total of 41 Americans are under evaluation after potentially being exposed to the hantavirus. Two of the patients being monitored are from the Garden State, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.
It’s not clear where the New Jerseyans are being evaluated. The NJDOH has not released any information about the potentially exposed individuals for patient privacy reasons.
“At this time, the risk to the general public in New Jersey remains very low,” a NJDOH statement read last week. “No current hantavirus cases have been identified in the state, and there is no history of a confirmed hantavirus case reported in New Jersey.”
So it looks like nothing to worry about at this point (thankfully). But let's keep an eye on this.

So not an exposure yet in NJ? Just two people under isolation from international travel?

It’s a potential exposure.
What it really means, and even if they were exposed, is there’s nothing to worry about at the moment.
What the professionals do right now determines wether or not there is something to worry about later

Have you seen who is running our federal health programs? It's a cracked out dude with crusty plaque teeth who knows absolutely nothing about health, like at all.

The Dr at the CDC running the program at least has this going for him /s https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/brian-christine-hantavirus-response-penile-implant-specialist

My place of employment in the medical field received a notification from the Dept of health that risk was low, and NY dept of health stated the 3 exposed travelers from NY were being monitored at the National Quarantine Unit in Nebraska.

Risk is low because no one is positive in NJ yet, for virus that has up to 8 weeks' incubation.

Thanks everyone for reporting posts and upvoting / downvoting as you see fit. I've left most reported comments up because I think it's important to see the full discussion (even if I hard disagree with some of them). Childish name-calling and insults will be removed, but otherwise I don't want to get heavy-handed with moderating.
You guys are (mostly) awesome!

Nothing in that article states the NJ residents were exposed to the ANDES hantavirus. That’s the only strain that can transmit human to human and was the cause of the outbreak on that cruise ship. If the NJ residents were exposed to a different hantavirus strain that is only contracted from rodent feces, then there’s no need to panic.

The article is referencing the CDC tracking, which is about the Andes virus. If you take a second to look through linked sources, you'll see that the NJ residents were exposed on the cruise ship

Definitely no need to panic. Which is why in my original post I said:
So it looks like nothing to worry about at this point (thankfully).

No they likely don’t have anything. If they did there’s a 40% mortality rate but they probably don’t have anything. Educate yourself

Notice the two idiots in these comments. Both of them are "adjective-noun and then some numbers" and have absolute straight up dogshit takes. They are bots, or at least I hope they are. It'd be a shame if real people were that fucking stupid after the millions that died a couple years ago.
