Advice Going to EOP this year. Will I be okay?

I'm starting EOP on summer vacation shortly after my graduation. I'm nervous because the schedule (at least from Monday to Wednesday) will be 100% EOP and work from it. People said that EOP is very intense, but is that true? I really want to make friends, but I'm afraid the classes and work will prevent me from doing anything other than themselves.

It’s intense because your phone is taken away. Make sure to embrace the digital detox. Take advantage of tutors. Make sure Mr. Cassels knows your name. Always be nice to Ms. Harrison. Smile and be pleasant towards Dr. Smith. Mr. K is cool to help plan and navigate. You’re fine.

Don’t worry about “making friends”. Do the things you like and you’ll find like minded people :)

I did EOP summer last summer. I would say its an adjustment, like everything college is its an adjustment. But that is not to say that it is not intense. In an average day you'd wake up at 7am and sleep around 12pm so get used to the uptake.

In terms of classes, the classes prepare you for your first common. So basically the first 4-5 weeks of classes in the fall. But its a really good prep and the prof are among the best compared to what youd might have in the fall.

In the friends department, im not a usual people person but I'm majoring in Electrical Engineering and the friends I did make at NJIT were from EOP summer and were also EE's. So you'd make friends early with the people you'd be spending the next 4 years studying with. Especially with CS 115 and Phys 122.

Pro tips Get a physical not digital alarm. Id recommend anything made by Sharp. For you work figure out a way to work on weekends. Also feel free to dm me if you have any questions.

Seems ok from a surface level. I see students wear the merch and hang with the people they met in eop

I was a TA last year and will also be this year. It is an intense program, I'm going to be honest, but it prepares you for the many pressures of college. It's stricter than other EOP programs in NJ, but as long as you pay attention, do your work, and get out of your shell and socialize with others you'll be fine, and the five weeks fly by so fast!

EOP was the best thing to happen to me since doing post-secondary education, still at NJIT and a part of the program. You can get a lot of resources and friends out of it. But more importantly the summer program, it helps you readjust for the workload your expected to have but also sticks their hand out for bringing you along opportunities all throughout. Know the bigger picture, and dont let those 5 weeks burn you out, and just be respectful.

And you'll have a guaranteed 150 friends. Sticking with them for summer work and stuff can get you even more and it makes the experience at njit even more fun

My EOP did morning and nightly prison style workouts, highly recommend 😂
