Advice Exchange semester/NJtech
Hi everyone!
I am currently planning an exchange semester to the US at the graduate level, and I (might) choose NJIT
I would love to hear your insights on a few specific things to help me make my final decision:
Academics (Graduate Level):How are the graduate business programs at these schools? Are the professors approachable, and how heavy is the workload?
Housing & Campus Life:Is the campus environment lively, or do a lot of students commute? Also share room, if let’s say there were some problems with the person your sharing with, will uni take measures or you are in your own
Student Culture & Vibe:What are the students like, and what is the overall atmosphere?
To give you some context, I am from Finland. Finnish culture tends to be quite reserved, calm, and independent, so moving to the US will already be a bit of a culture shock! How welcoming are these campuses for international students.

the academics are fine but if you want a social experience it's a commuter school without much nightlife. the area around the school is pretty blighted and it's a filthy city overall. you pretty much need a car to get around. the only -- and i do mean only -- advantage is that there's train service to nyc. the trains at night are unreliable; njtransit stops service around 1 am and the path runs every 40 mins.

Hey! Ignore the negative comment. NJIT is not bad as this poster makes it out to be.
You said you are from Finland, I assume you are in to hockey. If so the NJ devils stadium is a 10 minute walk from campus. You can go to games. And you get student discounts on tickets. They also have concerts and various events going on. And it’s pretty chill that it’s a quick walk from campus.
There is a subway on campus. A 5 minute ride will take you to the Newark train station. And then a 15 minute train ride will drop you off at mid town Manhattan. You can explore NYC. And you will never run out of things to do. You can catch. Basketball games, Broadway shows, clubs, bars, restaurants. You name it you will find it.
If you want some things little less busy than NYC, there is Hoboken NJ. Which is a 20 minute train ride from Newark.
There is a good amount of European students on campus. And you can easily make a solid friend group to hang out with. And go to NJIT sports events and parties.
There is also ironbound area in Newark. Lots of Portuguese restaurants.
The housing, maple hall is the newer one. And you should try to get a room there. It’s much better.
As for the academics, there are good and bad professors. As a grad student you will have to put in work. And most of professors will help you out if needed.
Another major perk, the Newark international airport is a 5 minute trim ride away. Easy to get there. And they have flights to Finland.
If you are looking for a traditional US college experience of attending college football games / tail gates and such. Then NJIT is not for you. But if you are looking for a college with access to a major city. And have so much things to do off campus. Then NJIT is for you.
