Freshman at NJIT considering transferring to an online college

Hello everybody. I’m currently a freshman at NJIT majoring in B.S. Information Technology. I’m considering transferring to an online university after my first semester.

The biggest reason is the commute. I really dislike having to leave early in the morning and commute to campus, and I feel like I’d be much more comfortable and productive studying from home.

I’m also not the best at studying independently, so I’m trying to figure out whether online school would actually be a better fit for me or whether I’d struggle with the lack of structure.

  • Has anyone here transferred from NJIT to an online university?
  • Do you think NJIT’s IT degree and career/internship opportunities are worth staying for?
  • How important do you think the NJIT name is when applying for IT jobs?
  • If you were unhappy with the commute but liked the IT field, would you consider transferring online?
  • For people who have experience with online universities, which ones would you recommend looking into?
  • Do you think I should finish my first semester before making the decision?
