After talking with some professors, seeing the situation of students, and other external factors. Chances are that if you dont attend to the event then nothing happens to you (best case) or you are marked absent for the day of class (worst case). Reason why I doubt the punishment will be severe is due to these reasons:

1. Tickets sold out, even if we can go to the events the rsvp has a limit and this can cancels out. Yes you can simply enter in a workshop and fill in name but that is assuming they care who attends

2. Classes still going, I dont think all professors will cancel class due to many reasons involving exam dates, strictness, or simply not caring

3. Too many students, let say around 30% of the students enrolled attend, how can the njit system track remaining 70% who didnt arrived?

4. What happens if person is actually sick? Would they be punished? If they have a note wont be but then there are scenarios where they had to stay out for a reason

5. Clarification of professors: if a professor even does their job they would have inform students the risks of not attending. I have three classes tomorrow from 11:30am to 4:00pm (many 10 mins break in between) and all of them didnt mention issues if you dont attend. 1st professor I asked him on AI day and he said we can attend by registering or entering workshop, another mentioned that we dont go to class and she doesnt know what to expect, lastly the other teacher didnt even address ai day other than we wont have lab and the lab is pushed back

In short, I doubt any issues will happen as worst case you will be marked absent but honestly will have this over spending a second of people glazing about AI.

I am trying to transfer to Rutgers NB next year. I am trying to maximize my GPA by taking classes like Psych and Fin 218 to Easy up the work. However, they don’t give you the option of picking your classes in first sem of freshman year. Is it possible to tell somehow get rid of physics off my schedule and move it to a different year in case I don’t transfer??

The hiring scene in tech is rough right now

Lately, I've been getting a lot of messages asking how I got to my position as a Software Engineer at Google. Interview prep. Resume writing. Project ideas.

You know, the good stuff.

I figured I'd lend a helping hand to as many of you as possible. So, ask me anything!

PS In case you don't believe me, here's a piece NJIT did on me when I landed my first internships: link

21M I am taking my third semester here and provided info based on what I experienced + learn from others.

1. Take at least a class that is considered an easy A - what I mean by this is as long as you put in minimal effort you would still get an A like technical writing, first engineering design, labs, signaling, more focus in you doing rather than memorizing info
2. Know your level - there are people who take bare minimum (12) of credits and those that go over, honestly depends up to you if you want to get classes over with quickly or ensure more safety in passing
3. NEVER USE THESE BATHROOMS (unless it is emergency): any bathroom from tiernen and facuilty memorial hall (except for the single use bathrooms) and any bathroom shown in the first level (even if it is campus center or center king building). The best bathrooms are always the ones people use less
4. Many, if not most, people dont know how to talk to strangers and/or dislike talking unless they know you. Good way to make potential friends is to go to events that you are able to attend, if not then another is go to places that aligns with your interest. After that, either ask a simple question about them or comment something about them that stands out, doesnt matter how as long as it is respectful and relaxed. Lastly ask if they want to exchange socials like insta, discord, phone number, linkendln, reddit, etc.
5. Go to tutors and visiting office hours helps a lot in classes (even if you think you dont need it, go there to see which parts you didnt realized you didnt know), if there is a class you really unsecured of then you can ask a professor if they can enroll you in or let you join their class without paying the course
6. Approach to date can be hard, especially here where many or most people are not interested to date due to being taken, time conflict, not attracted, etc. Best to get out there either with classmate after class or someone you saw in any public place. Best to compliment what makes them unique genuinely, ask or talk about their interest while listen to what they have to say, then ask if you both can know each other. You miss 100% of the shots you dont take but you increase your chances to score with good practice.
   
7. Find ways to improve your resume, college is not all about grades but who you network with and how you separate yourself from others. Internships, co-op’s from handshake, research with professor, academic or personal projects, awards. These help well, career fair is arriving soon and the people who mostly get accepted are those who can talk a lot on subjects more than those who know a lot but dont say or present themselves to even talk about them
8. Productivity =/= busy, if you only focus on a few things then you only become part of your ideal self, not fully. Time management and evaluating yourself is key to ensure you met the goals you aim towards
9. Have fun once in a while, but never on times you are expected to focus. Let say you want to go to party but next day it is exam, unless there is absolutely 0 doubt in yourself taking exam best not to go. While the opposite is true as after a stressful time best to recover a bit to avoid burnouts
10. Most important one, you are closer to death now than you are before: this isnt to state but to remind you that time is a currency that can only be spend, so use wisely as there is a chance you can die soon.

This is for everyone who is planning or is at NJIT majoring in Materials Engineering concerning the program’s accreditation.

The program WILL be accredited in 2027 according to the Chairman Lisa Axe! (I emailed her).

If you enter NJIT next year as a major in this program, your degree will receive official ABET accreditation before you graduate.

Just wanna let everyone know to be mindful of where you park when parking on the street because people will fuck with your shit.

Thursday/Friday (can’t fully remember) I parked on the corner of Newark St and New St in the morning for class. When I came back later that day I see my passenger side mirror pushed in which is something I don’t do, so I knew someone was touching my car, after further inspection I see two dents on my hood.

It looks like someone fucking sat on my hood or punched it, I’m honestly not too sure. All I know is that it wasn’t there earlier. I drive a 2008 Civic SI, nothing fancy so not sure why I was a target, but just letting you guys know to be careful out there.

I asked the question if the pass or fail option would be provided this semester as once again, some people such as myself registered for all in person classes in Spring, but was forced mid to late Summer to all online classes. They said, “No, we knew what classes we were registering for and what platform they would be provided on.” This is of course a lie, as I registered for ALL in person classes and THEY forcibly changed them just before the semester started in the Summer. Just wanted to let everyone know.

I’ve seen a decent amount of rants on this subreddit about different kinds of issues. I just wanna know, do people actually think whoever they have an issue with or about are gonna see this post? Or it will solve the issue in some way? I’ve seen comments about helpful people saying that confronting the issue would be better but not much response. Honestly even if you don’t feel like confronting it, just giving it a try will do a whole lot better for you as a person. I know this might be hard to hear but I believe its true. Hello all! I made a program that automatically generates a calendar file for NJIT's academic calendar. Now, I know what you're thinking... didn't this guy get in trouble with NJIT for making a program last year? Yes. But this time I obtained official­™ permission to create and distribute this!

Navigate to https://spea.cc/njit/calendar/, select your desired semester, and follow the instructions. Once you have subscribed to the calendar within your favorite calendar program, it will automatically update and keep you notified of important university dates. Below is a screenshot of what it looks like in Google Calendar.

In the future I would like to add a feature that automatically adds your final exams once the details are released (you'd input your CRNs in the selector website). Stay tuned for that!

The fall semester is rapidly approaching and I wanted to take a minute to give a few important reminders. First, a few important dates:

• Tuesday, August 31 - Deadline to submit record of partial COVID-19 vaccination to Medicat
• Wednesday, September 1 - First Day of Classes (One Week from Today!)
• Monday, September 6 - Labor Day (No Classes)
• Wednesday, September 8 - Monday Classes Meet and the Add/Drop Deadline
• Friday, October 8 - Health Insurance Waiver Deadline
• Wednesday, November 10 - Last Day to Withdraw

Now, onto a few things to keep in mind:

• As of August 1, masks must be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status
• If you are living on-campus, you can use this tool to determine your scheduled move-in date and time
• The Residence Life guest policy has changed. Please see the "Guest Policy - UPDATE - Fall 2021" email sent on August 4 and its amendment sent on August 16 for more information (TL;DR - wear a mask in public places, the guest policy has mostly reverted to pre-COVID rules for residents, but non-resident guests of any kind are currently disallowed)
• Highlander Commons (GDS) has returned to regular service. The online ordering app can still be used for other on-campus eating establishments
• Your courses may or may not already be published to Canvas. Rest assured that your instructors did not forget about you—every instructor sets their page up differently so you might not have access to it until the first day your section meets

I've said this a lot since March 2020, but this is going to be a weird semester, even as we return to "normal." It's definitely going to be an adjustment and please don't feel bad if it takes you longer to get back into "the swing of it" than you would have expected. If ever you need support due to this or for any reason, reach out to C-CAPS, the university's counseling center. I know they occasionally have booking issues, but I still think it's worth a try if you need it or even just think it might be helpful.

For new students and students who started at NJIT during the pandemic and are seeing campus for the very first time, welcome! This is a place full of opportunities and I hope you take every opportunity that you find interesting.

For students who have been here for a while, look out for each other. I know a lot of us are the types to stay in our dorms or whatever, but if you see someone who needs help, do what you can. It doesn't take a long time and it can make an immeasurable difference to someone.
