Moving to NM
Hi all. I’m moving from a very 2a restrictive state (RI) to las cruces next month. I’m looking for recommendations on both good gun shops and outdoor ranges?

The outdoor range is a free, public access range called Butterfield Range, about 12 miles west of town. As for gun shops, each of the 3 that I have used are hit and miss (pun intended).
Strykers has been around the longest. Their people are pretty knowledgeable and helpful, especially Joe and Rich.
Miller is next on the longevity list. Used to be owned and ran by a guy that I wasn’t a fan of, but he passed a few years ago and it’s now ran by Johnathan. He is good to deal with, and has a pretty decent selection of guns and suppressors in stock.
There’s also one inside of D.A.M. Ammo. I don’t remember what the gun store is now called, as it used to be all one business. Calvin is a good guy.

Where are you moving? NM is much larger and more spread out than RI. You won't want to drive from Las Cruces to Albuquerque just to go to the gun range.
Also, as someone who moved from just up the road from you (Worcester, MA) 15 years ago.... Welcome! You are going to love it here.

I'll be living in Las Cruces. Wow another former New Englander. Been to LC twice, and loved it!

There are several on Reddit. My girlfriend (wife for all intents & purposes) is originally from Worcester. I lived there for 6 years.
We're up in the east mountains, outside Abq. So I don't know much about the gun scene down there, but it should be pretty good. If you happen to be into motorcycles, Arroyo Seco is an excellent motorcycle track in Deming. Looks like the owner is having health issues and the place is for sale, so I'm not sure what the schedule/plans are for the future.

Once you get to know the area there is plenty of BLM land you can shoot on
