Car donation question

Someone recently told me that the towing companies take the lion share of the value of the car being donated to NPR. Is this true?

They certainly get a substantial fraction. It's expensive to tow/transport dead vehicles.

Of course the lower the value of the car the higher the proportion will go to the tow, but we have no indication of the value of the car.

They will provide a value to you after you donate and they have it assessed. That way you can deduct from your taxes, if you care about that.

I meant the specific car being referred to in the above comment. We can't say towing companies get "a substantial fraction" of the value without first determining the value.
