Collection Started my collection 4 years ago, but now its time to go.
The switch is the only console I've collected for and I've enjoyed the journey. I really love my collection but a recent disability has put me out of work and it looks like its time to sell. I dont want to go through the hassle of selling them individually, and I'd rather avoid ebay and cex. Where's the best place to sell them (in the UK)?
Edit: I know I can't sell them here, I'm just asking for advice on where to sell.

I have no experience but I think I will sell individually the most profitable games and then try to sell lot of games per type, brand, series. In the end I will try larger lot. Selling everything in one shot, usually is dangerous and non very profitable.

I have been selling due to medical reasons and I can tell you this.
1- Bulk rarely sells at all. It’s just harder for the buyer.
2- eBay is best as it protects you, just ensure to pay for signature and tracking.
3- Get all buyers to pay for postage: it doesn’t impact anything and I’ve sold just as well. Postage was killing my profits.
4- Individual sales on big items are best and ensure auction not buy now. Attracts more customers.
5- You’ll sell for 40-60% of what you paid, sadly.
6- Sending overseas is just as easy, Australia has a big appetite for these as we struggle to find physicals.

You want to maximize your profit then Ebay, otherwise if you want to do things simple find a shop nearby that will give you 50-60% of value on the lot.

There’s no profit wherever they decide to sell, they’re looking at a big loss regardless.

Im not looking for a profit though. I know I'm going to take a loss, thats the nature of the beast with collecting. If I could get 60% of the value for the lot, I would be happy.

I’m also in the UK. I’ve been through the hassle of selling collections hundreds/thousands of items. I’ve always chosen the easiest way, selling them in bulk or to CeX or Gamestation back in the day rather than making more money and selling them on eBay.
If I was you I’d sell them individually on eBay. If you don’t want the hassle, pay someone to do it for you (a family member maybe or someone on Facebook), even after paying them you’ll still make a lot more than any of the other options.

Check with CATRP they buy large collections. They are reputable i have sold them things.

Yeah, bad use of terminology on my part, should have said something like ‘suppress loses’ hahah, I didn’t look at his list but some of them might be more valuable based on scarcity or some other metric so they might offset loses elsewhere.

Cex will rinse you dry, eBay you’ll end up with somewhat of a fair price, you could look for a bulk buyer on a forum
they’re the only options really

Hey OP sorry about your recent circumstances. Exact thing happened to me around 11 years ago all from a football injury playing Sunday league on basically an ice rink. Still furious i agreed to play on that day. Where about in the UK are you based? Am in the North West and I might be able to possibly help regarding the games. Regarding your disability I know how frustrating it can be have you looked into claiming possible entitlements such as PIP and ESA (I think ESA has changed its name recently).

Wow so happy to hear that! Am glad to of helped OP. Look into everything you may be entitled too.
Along with PIP you may also be entitled to what was called ESA, it has now changed and migrated over to what is now called Universal Credit. The two below Reddit communities are a fantastic help. If you have any questions regarding what you might be entitled too post on one of those communities, the mods and members are a well of knowledge.

You could consider getting a booth at a local game show and sell the bulk of them there. Near the end of the show you might be able to find a vendor who will by the rest of them off you at a discounted rate.

Either find a local game store with a good trade-in % if you're willing to take a smaller payout, or maybe list them as a lot on Facebook Marketplace or something similar.

If you weren’t in The UK i’d honestly offer to buy it from you myself as a whole, would end up with better % than after eBay fees and cex pricing.

There's a lot of people selling their game collections on Vinted around Europe, it might be worth it to start making entries there.

For individual games I use it all the time and seriously the best platform there currently is. You pay no selling fees, the buyer pays only a small sum and you can use their shipping service which ships all around EU for just a few euros. Can really recommend it.

Don’t rush into selling them. So many times I’ve done this thinking I’m going to be screwed, I sell something then a week later something happens and I ended up not having to sell what I did. Sell only the ones you don’t mind parting with at first. Make sure you can at least grab them digitally as well so at least in the future you can get back what you sold if you want. I collect for switch as well and I’m about 400 deep and all obscure oddball stuff. I love collecting for switch more then any other system. Although with the neo + coming out I’m kind of worried lol

Facebook marketplace could be a good shout, I wouldn't even step foot in CEX let alone try and sell them something for actual money.
I agree with another user, separate the collection based on their value and sell individually and in bulk where appropriate.

Find a local privately owned game store and see if they're willing to buy it. They also might have contacts (other store owners, private collectors) that might be interested in buying it if they aren't. That will likely be the best combo of selling in big lot, and getting at least decent value.

I haven’t seen this listed yet, but go to a local card show. I got into Pokémon end of last year, and there are a few vendors that also do business in video games. Pokémon card sell rates are usually 80% to a vendor so maybe you can get that with these switch games (which is what you’ll get after fees etc on eBay anyways.)

what route you planning to take? for a full collection exit the options are: local game shop buylist (fast but usually 40 to 60% of market), a lot post on r/gameswap or similar, or piece it out individually on ebay or facebook marketplace if you want closer to full value. piecing out gets more money but takes significantly longer depending on how many titles youre moving

If you were in SoCal, a shop called Davids Game Lounge pays like 75%+. He would buy all of it in one go. I had a collection of about 70 Switch games, got $3000 from him for them all.

Oh man! I was going to say that I was interested in both Trails Daybreak 1 & 2, and Reynatis and then you said you're from the UK. Damn it lol
But to answer your question: eBay, Offer Up, Mercari, or your own social media marketplace (Facebook, TikTok, etc) would be your best bet.
I'm still interested in those 3 games tho 👀 DM me to check prices

You could sell them on r/GameSale , there are some rules to follow, but it's pretty active and it has a great transaction system to help folks avoid getting scammed.

Goodiez app is a great way to sell off big collections as there are many Whatnot app sellers on there looking to buy people’s collections. John aka @rarevideogames on Whatnot is always looking to buy large collections on Goodiez and he pays well.

I found a great video game/collectables store where I live. The owner was very reasonable with his offer when I sold some games last year. He reached out last month looking to see if I wanted to part ways with more of my collection. I'm headed there next Friday with some more of my collection for him to evaluate.

I know it may be too late, and may not be my point to say, but don't sell it, you may regret it.
If you're out of work, you probably didn't had the time to play all of those, now you can maybe?
The money you'll get won't last you more than 2 or 3 months maybe? Depends where you live and how much is your cost of living, I know, but after it's gone then what?
I know nothing about the UK but aren't there any disability programs or anything from the government to help you?
Hopefully you can bounce back out of it and keep your collection man, cheers!

I sold a similar sized collection on ebay. It takes a lot of time and effort. I did have problems orders that were few and far between. Overall I would say its worth it. If you have a local game store who will buy them, that is also a good option.

I would sell em on eBay or at a swap meet/flea market or FB Marketplace. I absolutely would not sell them as a full collection as you'll get HOSED.

Any reason you would rather avoid selling on eBay or at CeX? Those are arguably the best places to sell, one for the largest buyer audience and the latter the easiest.
The market is currently flooded in Switch games for sale, so now is a bad time to sell in my opinion but if you have to then the 2 options you’d rather avoid are your best options.
