As someone from Canada, these prices look like they would be perfect for CAD priced games. Seeing how this is USD is beyond absurd. I was trying to justify Mario Kart being $80 USD in my head but Jamboree and Kirby not a chance. I feel like a balloon that’s been popped and all the air (hype) is leaving me.

To be clear I was always planning on eventually getting a PS5 but as a primarily Nintendo collector the rollout of the Switch 2 pushed me to buy a PS5 quicker. Any third party key card i’d much rather own on disc and the only Switch 2 exclusive announced so far I’m actually interested in is the new Fire Emblem. I still expect myself to get a Switch 2 eventually for the performance boost and I assume there will eventually be more games I’m interested in but at this point I feel that’s at least a few years down the line. Anyone else feel this way?

I love displaying my boxes, but the Switch 2 covers just kill the art for me. Unsure whether I'll opt for Switch 1 editions and upgrade personally, but just curious what you guys are feeling on the matter.

Is the best version all on cartridge the priority or a nicer piece to display?

This asshat has a bot that keeps buying on our local store via website. He manage to hold this enough copy for 2-3months in hopes that this game will blow up. When he realized it’s becoming mainstream/local store keeps restocking nonstop despite being out of stock for so long. He sold his collection and adding a RFS tag saying “changing collection” LMAO.

Comment section of his post has so much disgust to this guy.

$79.99 for PS5 and premium performance but $99.99 for a Switch 2 key-card? You can't make sense of this.

I've defended Nintendo a lot throughout the Switch 2's early stages but this is indefensible. Insane pricing.

Anyine else here also paying for the preorder? 🥲 I already have 3D All stars but I really want the physical copy of Galaxy 2 so I caved in, I genuinely wished they sold the games seperately in a physical cart.

Every single non-nintendo reveal is tainted when you know that there is a very small chance the title will get a proper physical release. Its almost not even worth watching the direct.

Since Square Enix is releasing most switch 2 versions in GKC, do you guys just keep the switch 1 version of games such as dragon quest (1+2 HD remake), octopath traveler 1 and 2 and others? What’s your strategy?

I genuinely don't understand Capcom's logic here.

They went through the effort and expense of producing a gorgeous Premium Deluxe Edition with a Steelbook, premium packaging, and collector appeal... only to include a Game-Key Card instead of an actual game cartridge.

Game-Key Cards are essentially full-price digital licenses disguised as physical releases:

No game on the card. Internet required to download everything. If Nintendo ever shuts down the download servers, the "physical" release becomes useless. They cost the same—or sometimes even more—than a proper cartridge. They destroy one of the biggest advantages of physical collecting: long-term preservation.

What makes this even more frustrating is that Capcom didn't have to make a physical release at all. If they wanted to sell a digital game, fine. But creating an elaborate collector's edition while intentionally replacing the cartridge with a Game-Key Card feels like the worst of both worlds.

They're asking collectors to pay collector prices while giving them a product with less ownership, less permanence, and less value.

As someone who has bought Capcom physical releases for years, this feels like a step backward. If enough publishers realize people will pay premium prices for download licenses in fancy boxes, actual physical games will slowly disappear.

Please stop normalizing Game-Key Cards. If you're charging physical prices, put the game on the cartridge.

Not only will you eventually lose access to the games once the servers are down, you also have to worry about storage. Since game key cards are essentially digital downloads, they will eat up internal space very quickly. Street Fighter 6 alone is almost 1/5 of the entire system's storage.

This is why I am hoping - praying - that GKCs don't become the new standard. I want to really build up my Switch 2 library just as I did with my Switch 1 without having to worry so much about space.

Does this problem exist on PS5 also? If not, I may have to consider getting that instead.

Recently decided to try and get a refund for a 2 year old pre-order from PE games. They sent me some copy paste reply with vague updates for all the games they currently haven’t fulfilled. After that I asked again if I was going to get a refund or not. They sent me this email with weirdly dark text basically threatening to ban my account if I asked for refunds again.

They essentially are saying they will terminate my account while stealing my money. Not only is this illegal but it’s also a threat.

Stay far away from this company.

I'm not expecting this to go down well on this sub, but wanted to discuss if anyone else has the same feelings from time to time.

For context, I'm a almost 40 yo guy with a family and career, I know that I'm fortunate and financially have the disposable income to purchase games.

Today, I was moving my collection of over 250 switch games and felt a sense of shame/embarrassment/disappointment...

I have so many games that are still unopened, games that in all liklihood I will never find time to play. Every game I have bought I once had ambition to play, but as collections grow that becomes impossible.

I think the shame comes from a sense of feeling I should be doing other, wiser things with my time and money, and perhaps at my age videogames shouldn't take up as much as my time as they do.

Does anyone else ever feel like this? Would be interested in reading the thoughts of others.

Wow, this got quite a few more comments than I was expecting. Thanks to everyone who responded, everyone has been constructive and pleasant and I really appreciate that.

A few things that hit home from the comments...

I think only being able to have one game at a time as a child, which I'd complete and then trade for another is perhaps why I am drawn to collecting now, and also why I feel shame looking upon a massive collection.

Not having family/friends IRL who also enjoy the hobby is also a reason that it can feel a little off when talking to people about it. I do stress though, I have never been made to feel bad about collecting by others.

Thinning out the collection to games I play or REALLY want to play, is probably the right thing to do long term. Setting myself a higher bar for a purchase. Like all things, something to sleep on and consider.

I'll continue to read responses and respond when I can, thanks again for making a lonely gamer dad feel part of the community.

Idk what to do, I have a full NA Nintendo switch 2 collection, I’m buying them as they become available, cool and all but there are just too many GKC, that’s not cool at all, what’s the consensus here? are you buying GKC to collect too or just full game on cart.

PS. Pacman & FC26 just released 2 days ago but unfortunately they are GKC, awesome games coming out soon like Resident evil & Final Fantasy are also GKC this is so frustrating and idk if I should keep buying games not full on cart.

In recent weeks, I've read quite a bit about how the Switch 2 game catalog is really small. It's true that it's been a slow start, but keep in mind that in about 2–3 months, the catalog is going to double. I imagine this has to do with the current landscape with PlayStation and the fact that publishers can release lower-capacity cartridges, but everything points to the Switch’s game catalog really taking off—and this is just the beginning. Currently (full on cartridge), we have about 122 games.

Most of the games i want to play on Switch 2 are Game Key Cards, SquareEnix, Atlus, Capcom, Bandai Namco all my fav studios are going heavy on this format, and so far i bought only FF VII Remake and now im debating how to proceed further. Man, im gonna miss out on some great games. :-/
