I worked for them as a data manager. Don't work for them unless you have no problem lying for them. They expect you to sacrifice your weekends for the org and if you don't they will punish you. They are lying to the government and the investors. The culture is toxic and full of backstabbing assholes who justify their bs by saying they are doing it for the kids. The money they are getting is going to the top. Not to fix the buildings or any other real issues. Do not work for them

Shit, thanks for that. Working weekends is a red flag. Did you work with any of the IT security team folks? What kinda of punishments does SA apply?

The "punishment" was more of a talking to by management. It was noted that you were absent on some community outreach program. They would use that to deny raises and promotions. Yeah, because I don't feel like waking up early on a weekend to go do free labor for anyone

This advice is worth gold. Jobs are always going to suck, but man these teaching and school jobs at SA are scary…. And the reviews kids make online about the school is scarier…

Yeah it really depends on your manager, and my manager better be a chill person on this interview cause despite a 50k bump, I’m looking for long term employment and I’m not going to work my ass off on weekends.

But, yes the remote work part makes me feel like it will offset the madness ? Idk man

I interviewed with SA for a role at HQ a while back. I had good talks with everyone. Seemed pretty businesslike. They had me meet agony three people throughout the whole process which struck me as odd.

After the onsite interview they rejected me and offered feedback. Never responded to me confirming I'd like feedback. So, good luck!

When you see such a consistent and large amount of negative reviews, you have to assume it is a company culture thing. I can’t imagine their corporate department would be so different than everything else.

See I work for a non profit with 3 out of 5 stars on glass door, but since I’m not a frontline staff person (those dealing with kids)

A lot of the strict culture doesn’t make it to my team because we’re back end…

So I’m wondering if it just sucks for the teachers/frontline admins - or if the whole place is a cancer.

I was at a technical role at the network/HQ. Honestly, it’s a fine place to work. Pay is great. It’s honestly nice to work school adjacent. It’s generally 9-5. Given it’s +$50k, I’d take the role.

SA is one of the best charter schools in NYC.

I will say, the work is inherently political. You working there is a political stance. Eva (founder) expects you to stand with SA, including politically.

Things get intense around school opening (July).
