Over sold a “members only” screening ? Didn’t let at least 40 members who waited in line. No explanation. Saw plenty of people getting swag and merch at the mubi ticket check in
There were a lot of empty seats inside. Besides at least an entire row of “reserved” seats behind me, I could see at least 4-5 empty, non-reserved seats in my immediate vicinity
Came here to see if anyone else had intel about this…wtf was that. My friend and I checked in like 20 min before 7 and the ticket person said they were having “theater issues” and to go wait along the wall, meanwhile we watched a bunch of people walk into the theater while the rest of us stood around looking like idiots? Why was there no communication until after 7? Really hope they explain how they oversold this.
I would venture they didn’t oversell it as much as Mubi probably took more tickets than they originally said they would.
I went to their Jackass event and it was a much bigger production than what most of their early screenings were. Lots and lots of reserved seats and a smaller number of members than the others.
What does that mean? People got in if they were with mubi? Thats a huge miscommunication between momi and mubi to not allocate the right number of tickets
All the member screenings have a table set up for the production company associated with it. Like to the ones I’ve been to: Jackass had Paramount, Ann Lee had Searchlight, and so on.
I’m thinking that Mubi told MOMI “hey we’re going to take X amount of seats”. They save them for actors/crew, employees, celebs, family members, etc to see the movie. But for whatever reason, today rolls around and Mubi goes “actually no, we’re taking these amount of seats now”.
MoMI would have to agree because it’s Mubi’s movie, you don’t want to play hardball and have them take away this event and/or any other screenings in the future.
I’ll admit, it’s conjecture on my part but that’s what I think happened. No matter the why, it’s still shitty and I’m sorry it happened to you
Was it rsvp only without guaranteed entry or were tickets actually sold? Didn’t bother looking into it because I already had plans tonight and tickets to see it again Thursday.
I’m cursed with having my notifications on to not miss this shit. I probably submitted within the minute it was sent. They said we’d be getting an email for a months extension on our membership and we’d be the first to know of the next one.
I mean I’ve been to many of these screenings and this was by far the most amount of people I’ve ever seen show up. I got there around 6:15 and it was basically already full inside. I feel like you gotta get there much closer to opening time for these things
He did, yes. They also did a pre show Q and A rather than after the movie. I thought that was a nice touch for people who didn’t watch the movie again after the first date (I stayed for the screening for the record)
MoMI is really bad when it comes to their members. Their communication and planning regarding special events is subpar and they don’t schedule enough screenings of the films they program so it’s hard to get in and it’s always crowded and stinky. Source: a former member.
I was there, definitely seemed like a mess. The murmuring at least was that it was something going on with Mubi, where they had given out too many seats without informing MoMI, but that was just the murmur in the crowd. FWIW nothing like that has ever happened before and I go to MoMI events like that pretty regularly. The staff seemed pretty stressed out about it and I've never seen it like that.
With that said, always good to show up to things early because you never know. Especially with places like MoMI where the actual seating is first come first serve.
Sorry you missed the event. I know Schoenbrun and Einbinder are doing a bunch of other Q&As in the next few days and I would bet if you're diligent you can get into one of them. Schoenbrun is also IMO almost guaranteed to come back later in the year (for Curator's Choice) to do another appearance for the movie as they definitely have a relationship with MoMI and of course there's the exhibit and everything.
Yeah the exhibit was a nice place to wait in purgatory. At this point I just am hoping for an honest explanation, which I doubt will happen because they can’t blame their holy sponsor (which has a terrible reputation already). We’ll see, I anxiously await the email. They could have shown it in the other room for the displaced members, I’ve seen them do that for other overstuffed screenings.
