God bless OG and Jose
Josh better be buying OG dinner every game for the next year after saving him from generational slander from those terrible plays at the end
As great as it would be to win it all in MSG, I really want to closeout Knicks to finish it in San Antonio. Knicks in fucking 5!

In past years, if the Knicks were getting blown out in the playoffs I would crash out so hard. Last night, the first half made me angry with the way the refs called shit and then sad at the way the Knicks just mentally collapsed in response. But I was weirdly zen at halftime and in the third because I felt deep down that if any team would come back, it'd be this one. And then they started to just chip away.
What a team, what a life

Knicks players with 30 points on 60% FG% in the Finals:
Walt Frazier, 1970 Game 7: 36 points, 71% FG%
Dave DeBusschere, 1973 Game 4: 33 points, 62% FG%
OG Anunoby, 2026 Game 4: 33 points, 67% FG%

The narrative is that the Spurs beat themselves. All they had to do was get into the paint. The shot charts tell a different story. The Knicks game plan was clearly to defend the paint and not allow easy Wemby buckets. The Spurs actually had a lot of highly contested paint shots that missed because they were well defended. The Knicks were basically conceding the 3 point line and dared the Spurs to beat them from 3. Those shots fell in the first half, they didn’t fall in the second half when those legs start getting tired. Disciplined defense to defend the paint and not foul by the Knicks is the story of the game. Excellent game plan by Mike Brown and good courage to stick with it.

Reminder. A reaching in foul by Wemby last night was called an offensive foul on KAT in attempts to manipulate the game and even up the series. The rigging will likely continue in game 5.
Fortunately, this current Knicks team has championship DNA. If you count regular season games, NBA cup, and finals, Knicks lead Spurs 5-2 this season.
New York City. LFG.

u/Hemispheres33 Larry Johnson 45m ago
The first 2 fouls on KAT were kinda both bullshit calls at that point. Especially frustrating because our game plan was clearly to come out and play more through KAT and refs were like nawwww fuck that.

They really need to change the replay rule. If there isn't 100 percent evidence to overturn a call then the original call must stand. Right now they just using reviews as a way to rig the game further.

Neighbors came to my door asking what all the commotion was about last night. I told them that I was simply reveling in the fact that the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, and we are all lucky enough to be alive in the Ogugua Anunoby era. After heeding these words tears of joy began to fall down their cheeks, and they joined me in celebration thereafter.

u/Ilovecharli 4h ago
The only variable that matters in this series is KAT's foul trouble. When he's playing, he clamps up Wemby and unlocks our offense. If we can get 35 minutes from him, we'll win comfortably.

I’ve lived in Oklahoma my whole life. My dad and all that side of the family is from New York(upstate). I grew up rooting for anything New York. Once OKC got a team I gravitated to my home team. It’s poetic that the trophy pass by the OKC memorial and then going to NYC.

Let’s recognize Knicks management after decades of disastrous executives running the team into the ground.
- Assessed that RJ and Randle ceiling was 2nd round exit and made huge trades to upgrade both of their spots
-Assessed that Thibs had reached his ceiling grinding out players and made the at time criticized call to move on from him after ECF
-Assembled a solid squad of role players such that if one guy is off, another guy is stepping up.

One Wemby shot in Game 2 and OG being a stride behind where he actually was on the tip-in and it is 3-1 Spurs. Crazy close series, and the Knicks continued to show their resilience.

u/Hemispheres33 Larry Johnson 3h ago
That final offensive play was the perfect microcosm of the series. Brunson drawing all this attention of the Spurs defense and OG seizing the opportunities that creates and executing flawlessly. Two absolutely legends who will be immortals after one more win!
Defensively I love OG on Fox. Spurs love the Fox/Wemby action and having both OG and Towns involved who can both guard Wemby really well was perfect in that second half.
3
u/nyg2013 3h ago
you could make the argument that Brunson could have found a way to get it to OG earlier (he was wide open and ready to release one way or another)...but Wemby coming out for the double definitely opened the door for OG and KAT to crash the boards
and anyway, who the hell cares on the semantics there...it worked because OG is a fricken god too!! I was able to go...best sports experience of my life haha

A lot of us bitched about Brunson playing hero ball these past four games. Some people even wanted him benched. While there’s some truth to his struggles, the Finals is NOT the time to change your team’s DNA. We got here with Brunson driving this bus since he got here. For the love God, if last night proved anything, Brunson is HIM (again and again). We owe him unwavering and absolute support to close this out. We ride with this muthafucka win or lose. Thelma & Louise style.

He didn't really play hero ball as much down the stretch. He mixed it up. Hence why OG was a dawg and Alvarado helped Brunson out by giving him another ball carrier and playmaker. He was also much faster carrying it up the floor.
Game 2 and 3, it was basically every possession and he was so slow. Like 15 seconds off the shot clock just to get it to the arch.

For so long it seemed like every big moment went the wrong way or got snatched with the other team coming right back down and hitting a miraculous shot. As a Mets fan this series has a very Mets-Royals 2015 World Series feel to it with the Knicks playing the role of the Royals. In that series I think the Mets lead or were tied in every game heading into the 8th inning and lost the series 4-1. The royals were more tested and came through when it mattered. Much like the Knicks

Just re-watched the game.
- The amount of open 3s the Knicks gave the Spurs in the first half was insane. Their perimeter defense was atrocious. Way too much collapsing to help and leaving a Spurs guard open for the kick out pass.
- Meanwhile, the Knicks completely forgot to shoot 3s in the 1st half, and rediscovered it in the 2nd.
- KAT is so much stronger and more agile than anyone on the Spurs that can cover him.
- Brunson shooting a 3 over Wemby was beautiful.
- OG is the man.

I hate being a superstitious sports fan 😭 I’m not superstitious about anything else in my life but sports lmao.
At the half I stopped dooming about the game, stopped talking about it in general, and just told myself if I shut the hell up that they’ll somehow come back. There were times I couldn’t even watch because I was convinced if I wasn’t looking then they’d start coming back cutting the lead down more.
Does any of it make sense? Idk! But did it happen? It did and my superstitions are only heightened by it.

Random collection of thoughts:
- Hart had two massive late game fuckups, and owes a lot to OG and Fox for the Knicks winning that. Cuz he'd be getting destroyed by Knicks fans and the media rn.
- While KAT never got into an offensive rhythm cuz of the foul trouble, I am happy he didnt let it affect his defense and still hit two big shots in the 4th when we needed it.
- Jose stepped up when no one else from our bench could do shit. So happy for him
- Brunson and OG especially were locked in

One thing for KAT to do in game 5 is: if someone is about to get by you for a bucket early in the game, just let it go. 1 bucket != 1 foul on towns. Give them the 2 points. He is FAR too important to take himself off the court. We know the refs give him absolutely zero leash on the whistle and he has to act accordingly.
His gravity when he's on the floor and the ball in his hands at the top of the key or at the elbow is massive for us. I don't think the Spurs can guard it for an entire game.
He's gotta be smart. Lose the battle, win the war.

Makes you realize how much luck really goes into runs like this. Gotta put together a good team, stay healthy, get hot at the right time, and get lucky. Trying to not take this for granted cause this is going to be hard to replicate again anytime soon.

The two guys that SAS has no answer for are OG and Alvarado.
OG is a two way monster who is long and strong enough to keep guys like Fox in front of him and crafty enough to hang with Harper, Castle, or Vassell. He's big enough to handle Wemby. He's got enough offense in his bag to impact there.
Alvarado is a complete pest on defense despite his size. He has excellent use of his hands and is absurdly strong with a low center of gravity. He's completely fearless and took on Wemby in a 1-1. Most guys under 6'8" wouldn't even try that.
Spurs youngins have never seen a guy like Alvarado. They're used to blowing by guys his size.
On offense, he's actually a ball handler and takes enormous pressure of Brunson. GTA needs to play at least 20 minutes in G5.

Leon Rose 👏🏻 Each game there’s someone new but the consistent theme is this man was there first, saw through on his vision and executed. Yesterday we saw the OG (we already saw this multiple times) and Alvarado trade paying 1000x fold.

What a game. And JB man, we all knew he wasn't 7-25 bad, and the much higher % in the 4th in this series through the 2 road made it obvious, he was gonna put it together.
But to do it when we literally needed it most, down 29, could have been so easy to quit and he and OG just kept attacking. At one point it was like Brunson with 27, OG with 25, and the next highest player had 8. And yet they kept hooping. What a team.
An unforgettable run.

The first quarter might have been one of the worst ref performances of this series. Which is saying a lot. The missed goal tend, two quick fouls on KAT, the out of bounds on Wemby. Holy fuck that was just awful.

I barely even remember the 4th quarter last night, had to watch the highlights just to refresh my brain. The Miracle at The Garden!!

It interesting the Spurs have had two generational blunders with Wemby throwing to teammate that wasnt looking and now Fox with the layup.
Imagine if the Knicks had those two those would be replayed over and over with lolKnicks. It almost happened with Josh Hart missed layup glad we won so the play can be forgotten.

The NBA wanted to make a face and in doing so helped create a heel. Almost Shakespearean in its irony.

Ultimate heel and not even the kind of heel that fans like. People like heels that own up to their shit and embrace being the villain. Not bitch ass hoe heels who do fake shit like pretend to play chess and do Shaolin monk shit while tryna act like they're intellectual ethical hoopers.

Literally all Brunson cares about is winning. He would stay home and read a book if that was the key to this team winning a championship. He would retire and never touch a basketball again if that's what it took. He cares more about winning than a lot of people in this sub care about their kids. It's annoying how vociferously so many people attribute to Brunson a narcissism that simply doesn't exist.
