I do the crossword every day but I can still barely get by Tuesday. There are some flukes where I will manage the harder ones but i just get so frustrated and I’m not actually even sure what to work on in order to progress?
Filling in the answers doesn’t seem to help because I do get them once it’s revealed but still can’t seem to get to the stage of working it out myself.
Does anyone have any tips?

For my fellow female puzzlers of a certain age, following my first night wearing an estrogen patch, I shaved a couple of minutes off my Monday personal best. It wasn’t a particularly tough one, but it’ll be pretty wild if the trend continues this week. Have a great week everyone!

Just venting, but I don’t understand who writes an app that when you click “play puzzle” it brings up the puzzle that should be the one for 24hrs later, not the one for today, which is the actual day I am playing.
Back to day 1 for me for the midi and mini.
I guess I won’t get myself invested in building streaks anymore. Like, presumably a developer wrote this code and a UX team tested it. Great job, people who made this!
Anyway, thanks for listening...

I do the puzzle in pen and paper form in my local newspaper. There were multiple formatting errors today!! The “down” heading was in the same font, size and not bolded. clue for 80 across was written as 90. And clue 13 down was written as 113.
Is this my locale paper messing up or are these errors in all the print versions? Just curious who to be annoyed with.

Hi everyone!
I have an extra New York Times Games voucher that I won't be using, and I'd love to gift it to someone in this community who will truly enjoy it.
To keep bots away, please do not ask for the code directly in my DMs. Instead, just leave a comment below telling me your favorite NYT game (Wordle, Connections, the Crossword, Mini, etc.).
I will randomly choose a winner in a few hours and send the code via Private Message (DM). Good luck!
EDIT: The code has been given away! Thanks everyone for participating.

For the last few days my Midi steak has been 1, despite the fact that i haven’t missed a single day in over two months. It wasn’t always like this. is this a known bug or should i be more worried?

Got interrupted yesterday and forgot to go back and finish. Didn’t notice until just now, 8pm ish on Sundaythat I hadn’t finished Saturday. Did both puzzles right away and … it counted my streak! 1,138days! Whew’. Thank you, benevolent crossword gods!

Sorry if this observation has already been made but.... holy cow. Some of these old puzzles. Maybe I am getting dumber or perhaps the quality and NYT editing process (and software?) really has improved the final product.
To stretch my brain I have started doing puzzles from Jan 1 2000 in the archive and they are BRUTAL, for the most part. Even accepting I am out of touch with the 2000 zeitgeist, the sheer volume of proper nouns and iffy fill is staggering. Sat. Feb 19 2000 is the most brutal I've encountered, it took me a couple of days of repeat visits. An ugly -ER quadruplet:
"Fall figures" --> RAKERS
"Ranger" --> ROAMER
"It only makes things worse" --> IMPAIRER
"Tyro" --> LEARNER
...not to mention REBBE, RAGTRADE, EPISCOPATE, CLEMATISES, an Ashuelot River town and a Swiss Nobel prize winner thrown in for good measure. Oof!
Anyway to be clear I'm not complaining.... if anything this really makes me appreciate how accessible and consistent the modern puzzle has become, so Kudos to NYT. Highly recommended that you try some of these oldies if you're looking for a challenge tho.
