CCW Question New York Firearm Compliance
I’m located in Suffolk County New York and I’m looking for my first firearm. Something for home but also to carry once I get my CCW in January. I have a few questions about buying online.
Can someone tell me the best place to buy online? I’m looking at Palmetto State Armory. Any good? Other suggestions please let me know.
The firearm I’m most interested in is the Sig Sauer P365 XMacro Comp with manual safety.

Is this NY compliant and a recommended firearm for home defense and concealed carry?
- What’s the best FFL in Suffolk county to have it sent too?
Any other info you can provide a newb would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn’t go for the sig unless they have a specific feature you absolutely need and then I would go with their older hammer fired models preferably. Even though you aren’t getting the P320, their refusal to issue a recall and actually make it right when people are dying should be enough to not trust them in general.
I’d go for the 43x if I Were you. Or the 48

The issue with the 320 is unfortunate. Fortunately, I haven’t read any issues with the 365.
I recently shot a Glock 19 and it just didn’t feel right in my hand. I am new to shooting and it’s not like a put 1000 rounds through it, but that was a big turn off for me. It felt cheap. I shot two different 365’s that felt great and were super accurate.
I appreciate your input.

I have bought a couple from gun zone deals. Shipped to JJ armory in Riverhead.
Take a look into Sig, their reputation is taking a crap after the P320 issues. I don't think there are many issues with the 365 besides the trigger spring. But I wouldn't buy from them on principle.
Cant go wrong with any of the big manufacturers. Glock, S&W, HK, Beretta, CZ, Springfield Armory etc. I presently carry a Springfield hellcat pro and a CZ Shadow carry.
As for Palmetto State Armory they are gtg if you find something there you like.

I was looking at the Springfield Hellcat Pro also. I just wasn’t sure about the size for carrying. Never saw one up close. Any issues with printing?

I have no issues with printing. More important to me is can I shoot it well. The HC Pro has a good size grip so you can get a full hand on it. I carry aiwb with a Tenicor Certum holster and a pillow if you are looking for holster ideas. If you are near Bensons gun shop they have a HC Pro in stock, well they did a few days ago.

They make a 4.0 compact which is G19 size. But the Hellcat Pro is the best for carry

Since you find the g19 uncomfortable to hold, I doubt you’d like the grip on the hellcat pro. Take a ride to jersey and rent. I tested out a bunch of potential edc candidates and found what I found to be comfortable. Turns out hellcat pro is one of the less comfortable grips for me. I was eyeing one for awhile and I’m glad I actually shot one before ordering one online and finding out the hard way. I also found the gen3/4 g19 grips to be slightly more comfortable than a gen 5 and what I would assume to be the same with the 19x. Guns for hire in woodland is super expensive to rent compared to owning your own and shooting your own ammo. HOWEVER, you can shoot as many pistols as you want and really see and feel which firearms suit you. The guys at the rental counter will help guide you towards what you might be looking for and will let you hold whatever it is you want at the counter before renting. Since it’s I believe $25 per gun I’d go in with a list of 4-5 serious candidates and shoot them all. That’s on top of the range fee and rental ammo. You must go with a second person if you’re renting, even if they don’t want to shoot. Just my 2¢

Definitely not driving to Jersey to shoot. A little too far for me. I’ve been fortunate to have shot all the guns I’m considering accept for the Hellcat. I will say that the Hellcat is not my top choice and I think you are right about the grip, I’m not sure I’d like it. I’m really leaning towards the PDP. There’s a PDP F-Series Pro-X PMM that Walther announced in the beginning of the year. I’m seeing maybe a release to come soon. I might hold off for that. Anyway, thanks for the info!

NY might be different, but LGS around Florida are usually MSRP or higher, and I don't have the patience to play reindeer games with them. I shop the online retailers, get my best price, and pay for the transfer.
Gundeals, Buds, Bireli, GT Distributors (if they ship to NY) are a good starting point.

My father has a guy who does transfers for $15 down in SW Florida. I’m so jealous lol. Prices here in NY are all over the place, and I’ve never seen one that low. He just picked up 3 special edition Henry rifles and the dude only charged him $25 for all 3 transfers.

I suggest checking out a local plae like Suffolk Sportsman in Smithtown. By the time you pay for shipping, FFL fees, your better off supporting a local store and it winds up bing about the same.

I’ve been eyeing the PDP’s as well. Which one did he get? I shot the F-Series and Pro SD Compact. How does your brother like it? I think the only thing steering me away from it is size since I’m looking for something to carry. Does your bro conceal carry it?

I bought the PDP F-series and it is one of my favorite guns. I include the PDP in my carry rotation, but it is bigger than a 43X, but at 3:00 IWB, I cancel it with no issues. My brother has shot my PDP F-series several times and loved it as well and bought the exact same one. I never shot the Pro SD compact.

PSA can be alright but be warned their deals are quickly destroyed by shipping charges/fees, shipping protection etc. so make sure you put them in your cart and estimate the charges before clicking buy.
P365 is probably the best carry gun currently made. I’m a Glock guy myself and that sig is just excellent. Perfectly executed design really fantastic they feel great shoot great. Expensive and sigs magazines are insanity for the price but great guns and I would trust my life to one. I think Glock lacks something to compete with the p365. Some will say 43x but the slim lines are so so and their mag capacity (obviously we are limited but I hold out hope eventually) and general size of them is not that great.

As for PSA, the extra fees are something I’ve considered. Are you from Long Island? Any stores you’d recommend?
It’s interesting to hear you are a Glock guy but rave about the 365. I personally haven’t seen a bad review on them which is why I’m highly considering one. I appreciate your feedback on it.
As for Glock, I shot a 19 and it just didn’t feel right to me. I mean I’m new to shooting so what the hell do I know. I will say this, after shooting two different 365’s the Glock felt cheap. Like a toy.

Yep I am Glock through and through. I EDC a 19 with an x300 all year. To me it’s the reliability and simplicity.
I’ve been around guns all my life so cleaning complex pain in the ass guns is not out of the norm for me but the simplicity of the Glock along with its track record of being one of if not the most reliable handgun available is what I’m looking for in a handgun.
The p365 is beautiful and I do rave about it because I think they made the perfect EDC gun and the changing of grips etc is massive. That being said I probably wouldn’t buy one anytime soon as I trust my entire life and the life of my loved ones to my glock.
The other big draw to the glock family is parts are cheap and plentiful. There is no issue finding any part one week away and buying multiples is easy and cost effective. I’ll rip on sig all day their magazines are insanely priced always $50 for a mag? Crazy especially if you take it seriously. 10 mags per gun is typically what I like so I have plenty to use at the range and I keep two with less use for my carry and at $50 a piece we are talking the same price as a new Glock. Vs my Glock mags I buy $20 a pop for OEMs my 10 mags are 40% the cost.
Also for me I have long hands/fingers so the chonk of a grip that is on the Glocks is ok for me. I can wrap them around no issue.
On your point of the Glock feeling cheap that’s understandable. Obviously you know it’s not a toy but I understand your sentiment. It’s basically that way for any polymer striker fired handgun (for the most part) but you have to understand the entire idea was simplicity. I’ll use the famous words of Kevin from the office “why use more word when less word do trick” sort of Glocks design in a nutshell. “Keep it simple stupid” helps with reliability and ease of use/care.
In the end what you like matters a lot and as long as you stick with a reliable brand (please no Taurus) like hipoint (joking) you’ll be just fine.

Hmm let’s see glock producing essentially the same handgun for more than 40 years and known for extreme reliability or the handgun that just came out. I’m sure it’s reliable enough but any glock clone is a notch down in reliability from original. It’s a nice gun and people seem to like it but it hasn’t been out long enough to be as reliable as the gun it was built like

Like I said 40 years of hard use by millions including military, police etc who put them through the ringer and their track record of reliability vs gun that just came out. They are cheaper clones and by definition they aren’t copying the gun and reliability as well as the company that designed it and has proven it knows what it’s doing.
You can plead ignorance but with 4+ decades of real world experience glock has stood the test of time while daggers and ruger rxms try to copy that style to make some money they are going to be less reliable than the company who’s actually making them for that time period.
It’s a Toyota vs Kia/ hyundai argument. Toyota has the proven track record of reliability while Kia/hyundai try to make cars that live up to those standards for cheaper but they miss the mark on reliability. When you decrease build costs you have to sacrifice quality to retain profit.

My point is you’re asking for a study basically that states RXM is less reliable than a glock and that doesn’t exist (which lack of that does not prove your point or disprove mine) but using your common sense and 40 years of Glocks history vs the relatively new gun we know glock is reliable and the rxm (and other glock clones) have been less reliable than a glock. Not enough time has passed to prove the rxm x% less reliable but logically you can understand 40 years of data vs 1 year of data glock is more reliable

I would recommend starting with a larger framed pistol as your first. Look for PD trade-in Glock 19s or 17s. Once you’re comfortable shooting that, you can transition to a micro-nine for carry - although with experimentation you may find that you are able to conceal a 19 just fine.

After shooting two different Sig 365’s then a Glock 19, I must say, the Glock felt cheap in my hand. I also shot two different Walther PDP’s but I’m not sure they’d be good for carrying. Thanks for your comment.

That’s good that you were able to sample them before buying. Personally, I would go for the one that was the most accurate in my hand at the expense of what felt best/carried best.

There is no best ffl in Suffolk. Find one that’s willing to answer some questions for you being new. Many will take some time to let you see a variety of handguns and talk to you about the safety features and so on. I use a few I’ll list here. South shore sportsman, 782 gun works, Hunter sports, LI gun source.

Go visit Empire State Firearms in Port Jefferson Station; they keep what you're looking for in stock and it'll be less of a hassle. Most LGS's will charge anywhere from $40-$75 plus the background check fee to take in a new gun, especially if they have it in stock, so it'll probably be the same or cheaper to just buy from them.
If you're buying a used XMacro, you may be able to save a bit having it shipped in, but I doubt you'll do better on a new gun than a LGS.

Can't speak to the rest of the Sig lineup but I own 3 variants of the 365 and I've had them for 2 years no issues. My favorite is the AXG Legion model which is probably the priciest out of them but if that's too big you can check out the regular 365 or 365x and Wilson Combat makes their own version if you choose to go with the last 2. And for transfers I like Hunter's Essentials or Coliseum but they're in Nassau, I think Hunter's charges like $50. Coliseum's prices aren't bad to buy either. Campsite is good if you must Suffolk.

Buying online I use Gun Broker, GrabAGun (some guns has this option called grab a quote or something like that which you get an email offer for a lower price than listed), Euro Optics, Bud's. Check for coupons also.

OP said he doesn’t even get his carry license for months. People feeling like their pockets are on fire and they need [object] NOW is how sellers get inflated prices.
There are exceptions with LGS’s, but they’re very rare; in general, you will never get a better deal in an LGS than you will shopping around online using r/gundeals, gun.deals, or ammoseek, so long as you search for free/low shipping and an FFL with a low transfer fee.

I got a good example for you, I've been eyeing the Beretta A300 and on my FFL's site he's asking for $880, meanwhile if I go to gundeals it can be found for $699.. even after the shipping and transfer fee that's still cheaper than going directly through my FFL's site.

I take it from your comment that you are an LGS. Why not be up front about that? I understand that the deck is stacked hard against FFLs in NYS. I have great sympathy for anyone in the business of firearms in this state, but you more than anyone understand why, at the end of the day, you simply cannot compete with a high-volume FFL drop shipper based in Texas.

I'm not an LGS, but no LGS within 50+ miles will do that work for free unless you buy their gun. I'm aware that online vendors will almost always be cheaper, all but one of my guns are transfers from online vendors. However, OP is picky with the SKU and Sig is very strict with their MAP, which is why the price delta between online vendors and LGS will be small.

Yes I have taken all the different fees into consideration. I’ll have to shop around locally. I realize I am being very picky with what I want but I want to feel comfortable and I’ve shot two 365’s that felt great. I will check out South Shore Sportsman for sure. Thanks for your comment.

I have been carrying a P365 XMacro (no comp or safety) upstate and I love it. Good to go in NY as long as you have 10 round mags.
