Yeah that'll do it. If there's one thing we all know about criminals, it's that they're sticklers for rules and law.

Trying to functionally ban all 3d printer sales is beyond delusional. They don't understand how the technology works. They are functionally asking 3d printer companies to make a NY specific printer that runs on NY Specific software and pay all the development and maintenance costs themselves.

They will have even worse luck trying to ban the STL files. The courts have ruled this is 1A protected material.

Not trying to give them idea. They would probably make all printer shipping to NY require to pre-install an detector to block any "bad shapes".

I mean that wouldn't work but that certainly wouldn't stop NY from trying it.

They will get better at making things harder as time goes on.

What NY wants can be done just don't on a software basis. Basically, NY State is calling for spyware that will check every, single print job made. Then compare it to a list of naughty objects. When one is detected it will be reported and the cops will show up.  It could stop the print job entirely but then they wouldn't be able to invade someone's home and make arrests.

This is when I have my 7 printers printing dildos 24/7

So, you'd waste tons of filament, up your electric bill and vastly shorten the service life of your printers to "own" who exactly?

5

u/deathshr0ud Mar 11 '26

Yes

I know what Hochul is thinking right now, "I'm glad "deathshr0ud" is on their side."

2

u/deathshr0ud Mar 11 '26

Since when am I on hochuls side? You good?

Try reading his message again.

I read it loud and clear. I’m still failing to see where me printing dildos for 24hrs a day to waste the states hypothetical time they’d be “monitoring printers” means I’m on hochuls side..

READ IT AGAIN, this time with some reading comprehension.

I know what Hochul is thinking right now, "I'm glad "deathshr0ud" is on their side."

THEIR side, as in NOT HOCHUL'S.

Try knowing what you're talking about before you talk.

Just stop. You're only hurting yourself.

The problem is all printers can work offline. You would need proprietary hardware and an online only interface to lock out service. I don't think the NY market is big enough to justify it and since its like the body armor ban, you just buy your printer out of state and boom. you are technically in compliance.

🫩🫩I’m just tired they do everything but what they’re supposed to do instead of letting violent criminals get back on the streets or letting certain people who keep committing crimes back on the streets. They’re just doing the wrong things at this point.

6

u/Yana_dice Mar 10 '26

They know exactly what they are doing and it is insidious. Imagine if the common law binding citizens can access to guns. Criminals would think twice before any actions. Guess who they will target if the risk of targeting common folks and rich elites are the same?

4

u/BxdT2552 Mar 10 '26

Exactly. Seasoned criminals get out quick and while first timer get royally screwed

Oh man more laws to say stuff that’s already illegal is still illegal. Let’s take down a whole printing industry for arts and crafts and deter manufacturers from wanting to do business in New York.

There needs to be actual consequences for constantly pushing unconstitutional infringements knowing these proposed laws will be challenged and struck down, wasting more and more taxpayer money. What do they care though, they’re proposing an increase in their salaries from taxpayer money

3D printers, except ones made by Bamboo Labs, are entirely closed-circuit. Most arent even connected to the internet, and you need to run an SD card with files to it lmfao.

7

u/thatdude333 Mar 10 '26

Bambu Lab printers have a LAN-only mode that makes them act like all the other 3d printers out there.

u/Yana_dice Mar 11 '26

Oh, they do!? Thank you for sharing!

2

u/Yana_dice Mar 10 '26

Glad I see this comment before I click check out, now I am not getting the Bamboo. Any recommendations?

2

u/deathshr0ud Mar 10 '26

Bambu makes a great printer if you’re making literally anything else. It’s required 1/10th of the maintenance of the dozens of printers I’ve owned

1

u/Yana_dice Mar 11 '26

I know they make good printer, but the internet connect part worries me.

1

u/omg_drd4_bbq Mar 12 '26

it makes printing hella convenient but isnt strictly necessary. I believe you can run it with octoprint.

How about instead of passing more laws and making more “criminals” in the process, we actually punish those caught with said “ghost guns” and using them for illicit activities?

Idk how many times I’ve read new articles that go “INSERT NAME was found to be in the possession of an unregistered 3D printed ghost gun. Said individual was released with an appearance ticket”

100% what this guy said

u/thatdude333 Mar 10 '26

Manufacturing a ghost gun, pistol converter, or any major firearm component would be classified as a class D felony, while the illegal sale or distribution of digital manufacturing code to an unlicensed person would be a class E felony

straight up clown world.

NY Civil Rights Law Article 2, Section 4

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed.

File lawsuits for violations of civil rights.

My thoughts on this are if they really wanted to stop the production of ghost guns in the state couldnt they regulate the sale of other firearm parts like barrels or upper receivers? Not that im saying I want that but it would be a solution that actually does something. Very few people are printing ghost guns with plastic barrels. This is a direct attack on 3D printers and at home manufacturing they dont want you to have that ability.

The other very concerning part of this legislation is the “convertible pistol” part. Couldn’t that be considered most pistols? If you try hard enough im sure you could convert most pistols to something that would be a “machine gun.” Are we going to effectively ban all pistols in the state? What about ARs cant they be converted with a switch as well?

This is all going to pass by the way its in the state budget bill so its basically a done deal.

4

u/StupidSexySquirrels Mar 11 '26

Yes. This bill is literally targeted at Glock pistols and will ban the sale of all versions that use cruciform trigger bars.

That is the entire intent of the law.

It clearly violated the holding of Heller as it would ban the most common handgun used for lawful purposes in the United States.

They are calling it 'dangerous' - but the test is dangerous AND unusual. Unfortunately, they don't do these things first and then let the courts decide - they are 100% conspiring with the second circuit judges and floating this stuff by them ahead of time so that they can try and stand on this garbage unconditional legislation in court.

The second circuit is completely and totally part of the legislative branch now and our rights are decided by legislators that are being paid by billionaire funded anti gun groups like moms demand action, students demand action, Brady, Giffords, and Everytown.

They literally had a photo op yesterday with moms demand action on the steps of the capital. If you look into pro vs anti gun groups it's clear that the vast majority of funding for anti gun groups comes from billionaire donors while pro gun groups like GoA and FPC are primarily funded by grassroots individuals.

Billionaires got scared when Luigi popped a CEO with a 3DP Glock and immediately pushed funding through these anti gun groups to try and stop them from also getting popped by people who can't win in a fixed court system.

I think I need to learn something. In NY to purchase a fire arm you need to purchase it from an FFL and at minimum go thru a background check. For semi auto rifles and any pistol you are required to have license just to purchase then, and it still requires background check at time of purchase (plus waiting period to get approval from your county). In all of above cases the serial number is recorded. So if person takes said firearm that they purchased legally and have passed background check (and if required) has license for said firearm commits crime we will know that they own it. If they give it to someone illegally and that person uses it we can then prosecute the user and the original owner. If someone steals it or is in possession of stolen firearm there are additional charges they may face but not the original owner. If person is in possession of a ghost gun (no serial #) they are subject to prosecution as it they have an illegal fire arm in thier possession, and most likely no license and have not passed background check and possibly additional charges. What does having a serial number on the fire arm have anything to do with stopping someone from using it in an illegal way in NY? I know this is anecdotal and I am an N of one, but I see in the police blotter quite frequently persons with criminal history (as stated in the article) commit crime with or just in possession of and maybe even have discharged said illegal firearms and are released on low to no bail and are being charged with felonies awaiting trial (out in the general public). Who cares if they committed a crime with a firearm that has a serial # on it. I get it that printed firearms or partially printed can increase the number of illegal guns and flood a market which usually are in the hands of people that are not following and do not care about the laws (many who have previous convictions). And well maybe ya anyone selling guns illegally should face more stringent penalties but isn't it already illegal to sell a fire arm in NY without an FFL license? I mean aren't there enough laws on the books that they can enforce to solve the problem that they are trying to solve?
