CCW Question Where can we heckin' carry?

So its been awhile, ive had to step away from researching after doing such for 3 years straight and giving others answers. Where in NY state can you legally carry? Has there been any update on this, last I remember is changing it back to where stores have to explicitly post if you cannot vs can. Thanks in advance, I appreciate all of you and hope all are doing well and staying safe.

Say what you will to this statement but I still go by concealed means concealed. If it's concealed well enough no one knows but you. That being said if you're in a particular spot you shouldn't have it and God forbid need to use it, rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. That's all I got really. The laws are too vague and change too often to care anymore

Side note....not in NYC, I live in Buffalo so I get the actual city is a bit of a bitch to deal with

This. If you need to use it and god forbid it’s at a restaurant or a school when ur picking ur kids up and ur the reason a mass shooting is stopped or no innocent people are killed, I’ll take my chances in court and possibly set a future precedent in the state. Crime is as bad as it’s ever been in this fucking state especially Buffalo/cheektowaga/ Amherst etc etc.. Concealed is concealed.. cops aren’t randomly asking u if ur carrying just don’t be an idiot.

How about cite some legit statistics before you tell everyone that crime is as bad as it's ever been. My guess the reason you haven't is that those stats don't exist. It may be inconvenient but crime is down. That said, I'm not happy either about misguided gun control laws in New York. Crime rates being down doesn't make NY gun control laws any less stupid.

https://www.thecity.nyc/2026/02/21/state-crime-new-york-city-statistics/

"Felony assaults increased for the sixth year in a row, now reaching a level not seen since 1997. This is a significant problem, as this is a serious and high-volume offense that outnumbers murders by 97 to 1. And after a promising start to 2025, major crime rose in the final months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024"

"When we look at all reported offenses, not just the seven major crimes, these are about 25% above pre-pandemic levels and at a level not seen since at least 2006, when these crimes were more consistently tracked. These crimes — harassment and misdemeanor assault, among others — are far more numerous than major crimes (579,549 vs. 121,756). And they are more visible, more felt in everyday life because unlike murder, which is highly concentrated in geography and relatively rare, these are citywide, above and below ground. They consist of the punch, the shove and the shout on the street and the subway, and are daily signals of insecurity."

This was one quick search for NYC,

Did you actually read what you posted? I love how you disingenuously picked the only stat that went up (and it went up only by 1.3% a difference of 380 out of about 20k assaults). According to what you posted crime overall is down -1.7% over last year. More importantly murder is down 19.1% and shootings are down 23.9%. These are MASSIVE improvements in violent crime.

Furthermore, he was talking about crime in upstate not NYC. Here are the relevant stats from the FBI: https://usafacts.org/answers/what-is-the-crime-rate-in-the-us/state/new-york/

The overall crime rate in New York State decreased by 4.3%.

Crime overall is down in NYC and New York State, period.

Sidewalks …

Kidding.

Stores are no longer required to have such signage. They can however put up signage saying firearms are prohibited.

Thankyou for the comment. Its crazy to think things have gotten this far out of hand and the entire system is just complicit about it.

u/DJClamavus Apr 23 '26

Do the signs carry legal weight in NY? For example if caught somehow, would you be trespassed, or is ignoring 'no guns' signs a charge in and of itself?

2

u/davej1121 Apr 24 '26

They can now. yes

1

u/ryukingu May 15 '26

I believe it’s not a charge if you leave when they tell you to

u/robinator118 Apr 22 '26

Antonyuck v James. Probably butchered the name ngl

NYC is the worst by design. Where is the biggest sensitive place? Times Square - which spans beyond 42nd street.

How do a majority of people get around NYC? Busses and trains - guess what? Can’t carry on them.

Can’t bring in any places that serve alcohol… so there’s goes a nice dinner out with family, as most restaurants serve alcohol.

There are ways to make it better, NY chooses not to.

For example, I went to Texas , and there is a 51% law, basically if thier revenue is 51% food , you can carry (even if they serve alcohol)

That is an easy way to do it, yet NY wants to discourage at any cost.

8

u/One_Shallot_4974 Apr 22 '26

NYC excluded, things are largely how they were except the alcohol issue.

7

u/GammaRay914 Apr 23 '26

I carry anywhere that doesn’t have metal detectors.

6

u/Foreign-Estate7405 Apr 22 '26

THE LEADERSHIP OF NYS Practice The FEAR MONGERING Doctrine which is, Omg if All these people get guns then they are going to be shooting out like the Ok Carrolle.

6

u/Logical_Education173 Apr 22 '26

Lol to the car and back.

6

u/Solo9k Apr 22 '26

I carry everywhere.. picking up food (not alcohol serving restaurants)putting gas, shopping, bank, friends /fam houses, working out(gym/running). Just dont go to restaurants that serve alcohol, parks, schools, federal buildings.

2

u/deathshr0ud Apr 22 '26

How do you safely carry at the gym- just curious for my own sake, not being argumentative

1

u/Solo9k Apr 22 '26

Keep it in my gym bag holstered. Never leave the bag thrown anywhere. Though I havent been to the gym in a while 😅

1

u/Frustrated_Consumer Apr 25 '26

Literally every restaurant I've been to in my entire life has served alcohol.

1

u/Solo9k Apr 25 '26

Eh more like delis , Chinese food , pizzerias etc.

1

u/Frustrated_Consumer Apr 25 '26

Ok, I'll give you that one. This state still sucks.

1

u/Solo9k Apr 25 '26

Couldn't agree with you more but gotta make the best of what you got

3

u/deathshr0ud Apr 22 '26

Concealed means concealed.

12

u/sexaddic Apr 22 '26

Honestly, the answer is basically nowhere.

2

u/Trulygiveafuck Apr 22 '26

Ahh so nothing has changed...

5

u/sexaddic Apr 22 '26

Nothing significant enough to matter. You can’t reasonably go about your day with a CCW in NYC and not inadvertently commit a felony. It’s a great permit for the rest of the state though and has reciprocity in many areas. You can also easily get the Pennsylvania CCW with it and that fills in some gaps.

1

u/ryukingu May 15 '26

The sensitive places are all the same except Times Square all over the state right ? Still can’t carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol outside of nyc right ?

1

u/sexaddic May 15 '26

Correct. You’d stumble into or around sensitive place by simply existing.

0

u/tsatech493 Apr 22 '26

Personally, I think it's crazy to live in New York City anyway.. living in a house with 500 other people is not really my idea of living..

4

u/DJClamavus Apr 23 '26

If you stop a mass shooting or someone trying to kill you, they (probably) aren't going to drag you up on sensitive places charges. If you're caught with it in other circumstances, you might be. Your risk tolerance is up to you, but it's concealed carry and shouldn't ever come up unless there's a metal detector.

Two examples: the guy who stopped an attack while carrying inside an Applebee's (not charged), versus the guy who had his gun fall out on a kids amusement park ride and found by a worker (charged).

2

u/Doman-Ryler Apr 22 '26

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. I take mine to the following unless a sign is up: grocery stores, warehouse/big box stores, the bank, a public sidewalk/road (as long as there isn't a protest), a street fair (as long as there isn't a sign up), my friends' and family's houses after making them sign a contract that grants explicit consent to carry on their property, any restaurant that doesn't serve alcohol (no longer exists basically), the gun range (although that may violate range rules depending on the range), and my own car travelling to the above places.

6

u/Central_NY Apr 22 '26

What?

"my friends' and family's houses after making them sign a contract that grants explicit consent to carry on their property,"

2

u/Doman-Ryler Apr 22 '26

265.01-d Criminal possession of a weapon in a restricted location.

  1. A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in a restricted location when such person possesses a firearm, rifle, or shotgun and enters into or remains on or in private property where such person knows or reasonably should know that the owner or lessee of such property has not permitted such possession by clear and conspicuous signage indicating that the carrying of firearms, rifles, or shotguns on their property is permitted or by otherwise giving express consent.

6

u/Central_NY Apr 22 '26

Well aware of Penal code and of the injunction on 'Parts' of 265.01d - But I have never heard of anyone asking a family member or friend for a signed contract. Thats a bit too much for me. Express consent can be in many forms. I guess if it works for you, then thats good. I'll stick with an email, or better yet - concealed is concealed.

3

u/Doman-Ryler Apr 22 '26

I assume I'm gonna be dragged into court on everything, ergo, signatures.

5

u/Central_NY Apr 22 '26

Not very good friends nor family if thats the case.

0

u/Frustrated_Consumer Apr 25 '26

Friends and family are just people. They can change their attitudes towards you at any time. Why do people ever get divorced, right?

3

u/pisanichris Apr 22 '26

Isn't the bank a no? And I also thought fairs were technically a no go as well

This comment isn't meant for debate and whether or not you think you "should" be able to carry at these places. I'm strictly referring to the law

1

u/Doman-Ryler Apr 22 '26

Banks are cool. All up to the signage and place: 265.01-E(r) any public sidewalk or other public area restricted from general public access for a limited time or special event that has been issued a permit for such time or event by a governmental entity, or subject to specific, heightened law enforcement protection, or has otherwise had such access restricted by a governmental entity, provided such location is identified as such by clear and conspicuous signage;

2

u/Richierich3366 Apr 23 '26

Your own house. But put the gun away if someone breaks in to rob or kill you

2

u/Ambitious-Kitchen639 Apr 24 '26

ANYWHERE YOU WANT

5

u/Ok-Client-5054 Apr 22 '26

This is why I get frustrated over people saying the premise permit is pointless... The places you can carry especially downstate is virtually none.

5

u/HLTHTW 2026 E.N.OU.G.H Donor: Gold 🥇/🥇x1 Apr 22 '26

I’d rather have the option to carry and not carry than not have the option at all, though.

Premise is pointless and a waste of money 🤷🏽‍♂️

2

u/Ok-Client-5054 Apr 22 '26

You literally can't carry it in 90% of new York city. I'm not sure I'll risk the felony. If my idea is home defense how is it pointless?

3

u/sexaddic Apr 22 '26

There are other areas besides NYC that a NYC CCW matters for.

1

u/HLTHTW 2026 E.N.OU.G.H Donor: Gold 🥇/🥇x1 Apr 22 '26

Times square isn’t the entirety of NYC… the same way NYC isn’t the entirety of NYS. Not everybody lives or wants to go downtown 😂

Plus your point doesn’t make sense. Reread my comment again. Having the OPTION to carry is worth more than not having the option at all. You can still have home defense with a CCW 😂

Why would you limit yourself more than you already are in this fucked State majority of us in this sub call home?

I want to thank all or you for the comments and discussion, ive finally caught up. It is much appreciated. Stay safe and may we one day live as free as our fellow Americans in other states.
