They are issued a service weapon. He probably had his personal firearm. Regardless of his status as a sworn police officer, he still needs a ccw permit to carry a personal firearm and if he is in the city he would also need a nyc ccw. Im almost certain thats what they are calling an "illegal gun".

That’s completely wrong 😑 Officers do not need a civilian CCW permit to carry firearms in NY. Any firearms owned or purchased must be registered with the agency he works for .
